President-elect Barack Obama and President George W. Bush will meet face-to-face tomorrow at 2 pm in the White House to discuss the upcoming transition. Atrios highlights a previous encounter between the two men:
“Obama!” Bush exclaimed, according to Obama’s account of the meeting in his second memoir, “The Audacity of Hope.” “Come here and meet Laura. Laura, you remember Obama. We saw him on TV during election night. Beautiful family. And that wife of yours — that’s one impressive lady.”
The two men shook hands and then, according to Obama, Bush turned to an aide, “who squirted a big dollop of hand sanitizer in the president’s hand.”
Bush then offered some to Obama, who recalled: “Not wanting to seem unhygienic, I took a squirt.”
You know, the hand sanitizer thing is something you do discreetly, not right in front of the person. And did Bush think that "Obama" was his first name?
November 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pmCan there be a more telling moment to show that on January 20th we will finally have a grown up, not some petualant child with daddy issues, alcohol problems, intellectual laziness, and general stupidity running this country. Thank God or the Flying Spaghetti monster, or whatever!!
November 9th, 2008 at 6:32 pm20 January, please hurry. Bush/Cheney still have over two months to further their damage of this country the President Barack Obama will have to repair.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:35 pmThe only advice I have for you, President Elect Obama, is try not to laugh. I know that's what I'd have to keep reminding myself if I were about to engage in a lengthy meeting with Chimpy McFlightsuit.
Oh, and watch out for whoopie cushions. I'm guessing fart jokes are big with the mental midget.
PEACE

November 9th, 2008 at 6:42 pmIf it gets difficult to keep from laughing, just remember how many people have died at his hands.

November 9th, 2008 at 6:46 pmAt least President Bush has more class than to do what President Clinton, his wife and his staff did when it was time for them to leave.
I'll never forget the extremely poor showing the Clinton's made as they had to give up the White House. Disgusting, really.
At least they were FORCED to return items that weren't theirs to take.
You won't see our current President stoop to such low-class tactics.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:48 pmThat might have been the time for Obama to don a bullet-proof jacket---discretely, of course, before excusing himself with "I really need a hot shower with some hibiclens."

November 9th, 2008 at 6:51 pmTim Vaculik: How'd Tuesday, November 4, 2008 work out for you and your party? Who's sorry now?

There's a side-trail Tim, maybe you can get the drop on one of the stragglers.
Kristol seems to be limping...
November 9th, 2008 at 6:57 pmwonder if Bush will crack any jokes about hanging detainees from their thumbs, like he joked with the canadian prime minister.
The hand washing thing is strange, some psychologist's say that repeatedly cleaning your hand is a sign of homosexuality.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:57 pmBill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are so bummed out that they will have to sit with W in the former presidents section at every service for every person of interest who dies until they do...
November 9th, 2008 at 6:57 pmYou won’t see our current President stoop to such low-class tactics.
Bush has never shown any class. You have to have some social skills and intelligence to show class. For example, Bush keeps reading My Pet Goat as he is informed of a major incident. For example, Bush gives Merkle a neck rub. For example, Bush smirks when talking about war. I could go one but I don't want too. Bush will be history very soon.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:59 pm8 years later and the diminished, vile, and pathetic reich-wingers are STILL whining and obsessing over Clinton. Get over it, you lost, the country HATES you filth.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:08 pmThat is just embarrassing.
I can understand the hand sanitizer thing, since politicians shake a lot of hands, but a little discretion is key.
What am I saying? This is George W. Bush!
Nevermind...
November 9th, 2008 at 7:08 pmToo bad you folks use the same yardstick on me that you would use on yourselves!
I shudder to think what would have happened to the mental state of Obama supporters had he lost! Not to mention the massive riots the cities were gearing up for.
Such is not the case with conservatives. We don't pin our hopes on one man to save us! Our messiah came 2000 years ago.
Of course, I'm not happy Senator McCain lost, but that's the way elections go, ya know. The principles that conservatives hold dear haven't gone anywhere. It's up to us to keep fighting for what we believe is right.
You see, my progressive friends, it isn't always about winning or losing one election. It's true that winning gives the victorius party a huge opportunity, but that doesn't mean there aren't opportunities for the other party that happens to be in the minority. In fact, it seems that Republicans seem to do BETTER when they are not in the majority, strange as it seems.
Bottom line? I'm not worried. There's a lot to be thankful for and a lot to do. Unlike a lot of folks after the last two elections, I'm not going around claiming Obama "stole the election." I'm not putting away my American flags either.

November 9th, 2008 at 7:25 pmDr. Hussein Matt,
You are confused. Don't equate low approval ratings with "hate." I'm sure people of you ilk hate the President, but do not think for a minute that your sentiment is shared by anyone other than a small minority.
This blind hatred hurts you and others like you, not him or even his supporters for that matter.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:26 pmTimmeeeee,
And many reich-wing GOPigs thought the days of a permanent GOPig majority status was here to stay also! hahahahaha

November 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pmLet's get one thing straight.
I am hoping our new President succeeds, not fails because this is MY COUNTRY, get it?
Of course, I do not want him to do certain things he's talked about because I believe they are wrong for our Country. Overall, though I'm hoping he DOESN'T screw it up as I want to be free from the threat of terrorism here as well as prosper economically.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pmAnd where do you live Tim?
in one of those red states that take a lot more from the federal government than they pay in taxes, unlike blue states who pay a lot more in taxes than we get because we have to support you welfare queens?
in one of those states that is represented by someone who claims to be a patriot, but who avoided service and is probably banging his baby sitter or pool boy?
One of those states who have much higher crime rates, teenage pregnancy rates, and divorce rates than those supposed godless liberal states?
one of those states where grown men cower under their beds and wet their pants over the terrorists when no terrorist has struck within 1,500 miles of their trailer park??
So which state is it you big, fat (forgot to mention the obesity rates in red states) lazy welfare receiving, like Joe the Plumber, coward???? Seriously, which state, so I can laugh at you even more.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pmZooey,
I'm not doing homework for those too lazy to find out things they already should know.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:34 pmTim Vaculik Says:
You won’t see our current President stoop to such low-class tactics.
First of all, he hasn't left yet, so I wouldn't be so quick to point out that he won't be taking anything. Is he going to take Saddma's pistol? That doesn't belong to him.
Second, what kind of "low-class tactics" of his do you support? You think it showed class when, as he steps off Marine One and waves to the crowd, he hocks a loogey off to the side? Do you think it showed class when he wipes his glasses on the jacket of Letterman's producer? Do you think it showed class when he told the Sheriff of Americus, GA, (a town struck by a devastating tornado) that he would like to see Habitat for Humanity get down there, apparently unaware that Habitat for Humanity is based is Americus, GA? You think it showed class when he gave German Chancellor Angela Merkel an unsolicited back rub? And do you think it showed class when Bush ridiculed a White House reporter for wearing sunglasses at a presser, when the reporter was, in fact, suffering from a degenerative eye condition that made his eyes very sensitive to light?
I could go on, but I think I made my point. George W. Bush has no class. So, please, do not come here and try to tell us he does.

November 9th, 2008 at 7:46 pmTelling story.
I have an acquaintance who's grown adult daughter was in Tanzania w/ her mother on Nov 4. In the middle of the night, they were wondering how they would find out about the election. Then, they started hearing cheering and people shouting in the dark, all over the place. The locals had found out Obama had won and were celebrating... in the middle of the night, in Tanzania.
The next morning, they went out wearing their Obama buttons and were mobbing by happy locals. The president of the country declared the day after a national holiday, because no one was coming to work anyways.
The ENTRIE world is relieved Botch is almost gone, and McCain just ISN'T, period. And even conservative publishers aren't interested in Botch's memoirs.

November 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pmHere's some backup for Timmeh regarding the "damage to the White House" urban legend:
May 18, 2001 the General Accounting Office issued a three-page letter that said that it was unable confirm the damage largely to a lack of records from the White House. The letter also said that the condition of the White House offices was "...consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy."
The false story about keyboards with missing "W" keys, apparently started the whole thing.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pmTTFN, troll.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:01 pmI wonder if W will fill in O on how he pulled off 9-11...
November 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pmZooey,
It is for you to find out, should you ever awaken...
Here's a little story. Early on I recognized the powerful speaking ability Obama has developed and refined to an extraordinarily high degree.
When this election season started I purposefully chose to never listen to him, watch him on TV, etc.. Why? I found out how important this was when I finally did during the debates. Even I was mesmerized by his speech and his ability to evoke emotions. Of course, I was listening to what he was ACTUALLY saying during this time, but I was still amazed by my own emotional reaction afterwards.
Quite a substantial number of his supporters who attended his rallies likely have no idea what he really said. They only know how they FEEL!
He's one for the history books all right.

November 9th, 2008 at 8:05 pmHello Tim Vaculik...
November 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pmAre you dodging?
Yeah, Timmeh, you gotta be suspicious of people who talk real good.
The only ones you can really trust are folks who don't talk good. Like Dubya.
After all, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me... uh, can't get fooled again.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pmgummitch,
It might be something else entirely. Put down that kool-aid and do some research, will ya?
I just have to say that I find it VERY troubling that so many terrorists and heads of state in Marxist countries wanted to see Obama win.
If this doesn't tell you something, then you aren't reachable.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:07 pmWell, Timmeh, of the two of us, I'm the only one who has offered any links to back up what I've said.

November 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pmTim Vaculik Says:
Here’s a little story.
In other words, you personally are so bereft of intellectual ability that you are mesmerized by someone's speech patterns. Interesting. Your mistake (or this particular mistake) is thinking that the rest of us are so weak-minded.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pmActually, Tim, appealing to one's emotions is how the Republicans have garnered support for decades. Not reason, emotion. It's been known for some time that reason is the slave to our emotions, and that when people get emotionally riled up about someting, they usually look for ways to justify it afterwards, even if those ways make no sense.
The Republicans, unable to put out a coherent, reasoned argument why they should be elected, instead deliberately hit on hot-button issues (like gay marriage, or flag-burning) to get their "base" in a fever pitch, usually with anger and hatred.
Barack Obama's words were inspiring to many of us because he did not call for anyone to hate anyone else. The same cannot be said of the Republicans.
Did you know, Tim, that the Secret Service reported that Palin's rhetoric on the campaign trail caused a spike in death threats against Sen Obama? It's true.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pmTim:
Ever going to respond to where you live and why you hide in your basement wearing Depends cowering from those big bad terrorists and defending Bush on whose watch 3,000 Americans died?? Or are you just a pathetic coward??? Maybe that's it, but you do know proper flag etiquette. That's so much more important, proves your patriotism.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pmDid Bush's hand sanitizer take the black off Barack's hand too?

November 9th, 2008 at 8:12 pmTimmeh, do you find it troubling that "terrorists and heads of state in Marxist countries" also like chocolate ice cream?
If that doesn't tell you something then you aren't reachable.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:13 pmTim Vaculik,
November 9th, 2008 at 8:13 pmDon't split yet we have so much to talk of and so much for you to avoid when I address you directly. Are you a pussy?
Timmeh, I have a difficult time imagining you doing anything that isn't a waste of time.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:13 pmTim Vaculik Says:
I just have to say that I find it VERY troubling that so many terrorists and heads of state in Marxist countries wanted to see Obama win.
And that is a lie. Care to provide us with a list of names (and evidence) that "so many terrorists" wanted Obama to win? Care to come up with a list of countries that didn't want Obama to win? In fact, how many countries can you name in which the head of state said they were hoping McCain would win? Besides Israel?

November 9th, 2008 at 8:14 pmTim, enough with the kool-aid. If you want to be taken seriously, try not to sound like Elizabeth Hasselbeck when she's out of Klonapin. When you bleat about Obama and terrorists and marxists you are insulting Colin Powell.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:15 pmTim Vaculik Says:
gummitch,
It might be something else entirely. Put down that kool-aid and do some research, will ya?
It might be, but one would have to be divorced from reality to go looking for answers that aren't necessary.
I just have to say that I find it VERY troubling that so many terrorists and heads of state in Marxist countries wanted to see Obama win.
If this doesn’t tell you something, then you aren’t reachable.
You must have been deeply concerned, then, to learn that bin Laden was rooting for G W Bush in 2004.
And I assume you're deeply impressed by the "many" heads of state of free countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America who wanted to see Obama win.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pmAdios, mofos!
More projection for ya.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pmQuite a substantial number of his supporters who attended his rallies likely have no idea what he really said. They only know how they FEEL!
LOL Sounds more like a Palin rally. Oh wait, she never actually said anything. LOL
November 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pmTim Vaculik Says:
I just have to say that I find it VERY troubling that so many terrorists and heads of state in Marxist countries wanted to see Obama win.
Marxist countries? There only two remotely "Marxist countries" remaining, Cuba and China. I wasn't aware that either of those countries had chimed in much during this election.
As far as the terrorists go, al Qaeda endorsed John McCain.
Al-Qaeda Supporters Endorse McCain</strong
You're kinda stupid, eh Tim?
November 9th, 2008 at 8:17 pmOh, Wayne, that is so quaint -- thinking that our Timmeh troll might deign to provide evidence for his claims (or, as Timmeh chooses to see it, "do our homework for us").
That's not how Timmeh rolls.

November 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pmThe real reason for the Meeting so early.
Bush tried to get the War Crime Detainee Bill passed but failed. Deep in the Bill was a pardon for everyone who committed crimes even Bush and Cheney. It's call HR 6094 Bill. Now Bush will be talking to Obama about a pardon for himself. Remember Nixon got Ford to pardon him for his crimes. Look for Dick Cheney to visit his cousin Obama before Jan. 20th to ask for a pardon.
This is a rush job because the Bush lawyers don't have time and much of a chance to protect Bush for being charged with War Crimes once all the information comes out..
November 9th, 2008 at 9:34 pmOT but important....
Palin Attacks Provoked Assassination Plots on Obamas
The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.
November 9th, 2008 at 9:43 pmObama should inform George he doesn't shake hands with war criminals . George bush and dick Cheney are directly responsible for the deaths of 1 1/2 million people through their illegal invasion of another country in order to attempt to control world oil supplies !
November 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pmTorture , domestic spying and the shredding of our constitution have done untold damage to our democracy and there must be an accounting ! This is far from over !
Interesting Jackie. The iceing on the cake for me would be for Federal Marshals to handcuff bush and dick right after Obama takes the oath.

Why were members of the house of Represenattives told that there would be martial law in the country if they didn't vote for the bailout ?

Thank you, freeman. On the second point, it appears that Members of Congress really were threatened into passing a bailout bill quickly. How disgusting of Bush.
On your first point, if Bush did it with a signing statement, it has no effect of Law. Signing statements by the president are not how laws are passed in this country. Not the ones passed constitutionally, anyway. But if I ever see military troops patrolling my streets, you better believe I will challenge their authority to be there. If they arrest me, I will prove their actions illegal in court. If they kill me, my wife will get a very large settlement from them. Either way, she wins! :)

November 9th, 2008 at 11:12 pmIdeas anyone?
It's irrelevant.
Obama's already leaking some of the regulations he'll roll back, first thing.
One is the ban on stem-cell research. Another, is permission to drill in sensitve areas of Utah.
November 9th, 2008 at 11:13 pmWe passed Proposal 2 here-that was stem cell research. I am all for it.
the gun thing--well, some people were hedging their bets on who would win and I don't think it was the people concerned that our troops would be deployed against us. I think it was the fear mongering that there would be riots from the election and those were the people hoping to take potshots at some minorities if they could. I get that from talking to the general idiots who live around me (kkk land, remember?)
November 9th, 2008 at 11:20 pmIf you wonder why I am living in the land of idiots, we get a lot of people from Kentucky moving up here. Explains a lot ;)
November 9th, 2008 at 11:24 pmObama will have his list of reversal's ready on day one.
November 9th, 2008 at 11:27 pmCrooks, beware, hands in the cookie jar after Jan 20 09, may remain there, sans arm...
You don’t remember the Clinton staffers TRASHING their White House offices?
I don't remember, because it never happened. This is only one example of the mean-spirited lies the Republican Party has promulgated about the Clinton administration. (And, by the way, I wasn't a Clinton supporter then, nor have I ever been.) Republicans, it seems, have to invent these stories to support their deeply-held beliefs about Democrats, since nothing in reality supports their deranged ideas. If they actually had to deal with REAL Democrats in the REAL world, they might discover that they're not such bad people after all. But that, apparently, is just too threatening to their worldview.

November 10th, 2008 at 12:57 amWell, I honestly hear what you're whining about except I don't see any of it in our threads. You just keep going on and on and on about it but I don't see it.
All I see are your petty, whiney, simpering attempts to keep our attention.
Don't have any friends, huh?
November 10th, 2008 at 1:01 amOCD-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (back to the hand sanitizer thread)
Diagnostic criteria
To be diagnosed with OCD, a person must have either obsessions or compulsions alone, or obsessions and compulsions, according to the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria. The Quick Reference to the diagnostic criteria from DSM-IV-TR (2000)[2] states six characteristics of obsessions and compulsions:
Obsessions
1. Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced as intrusive and that cause marked anxiety or distress.
2. The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems.
3. The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action.
4. The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind, and are not based in reality.
Compulsions
1. Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.
2. The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts are not actually connected to the issue, or they are excessive.
In addition to these criteria, at some point during the course of the disorder, the individual must realize that his/her obsessions or compulsions are unreasonable or excessive. Moreover, the obsessions or compulsions must be time-consuming (taking up more than one hour per day), cause distress, or cause impairment in social, occupational, or school functioning.[
Oh, that explains a lot about our lame duck's state of mind

November 10th, 2008 at 5:54 amI joined the Navy in April of `01....that was unfortunate. Any way I was there the day
November 10th, 2008 at 6:00 am"Chimpy McFlight" suit wore that get up on board the Lincoln. Like all the other sailors on the flight deck I was given the opportunity to shake his hand. He didn't use hand sanitizer but he did have an awful handshake, one of those weak ones like you would expect from a little kid. Could explain or foreign relations problems. It was pathetic and quite disillusioning for a young guy.
By the way, I'm new to the forum and I don't really know but is

Welcome! Glad to have you here, and thank you for your service!
Yes, Tim is indeed a real, live, deluded moron - and yet he's also great comic relief. There are a few trolls like him haunting this place - they try to derail threads by spouting lies and Rovian talking points, but usually just make themselves look foolish. It's quite fun knocking them down to size, and we're all lobbying to make Trollwhacking a competitive sport in the 2012 Olympics.

Shows your utter stupidity. Agnostic does not equal Atheism. Just more twit twaddle spewing from your mouth again like always.
November 10th, 2008 at 7:09 amSo what does McDrinky think he's Howard Hughes now? Must he disgust us up until his very last moments? Does he wear tissue boxes on his feet too? K-reist, to see the last of him!

Gee apparently the main reason for posting here is to act in ways that you could never get away with face to face , in real life , in civil society , for entertainment.
As well as haranging those who don't agree with you.
You've got that part down cold.
You're no better than other posters, no more insightful, nor more accepting. You are what you rail against.

The only advice I have for you, President Elect Obama, is try not to laugh. I know that’s what I’d have to keep reminding myself if I were about to engage in a lengthy meeting with Chimpy McFlightsuit.

I don’t think Obama will have the problem you envision.
“So Democratic audiences are often surprised when I tell them that I don’t consider George Bush a bad man, and that I assume he and members of his Administration are trying to do what they think is best for the country.”
“…I find the President and those who surround him to be pretty much like everybody else, possessed of the same mix of virtues and vice, insecurities and long-buried injuries, as the rest of us. No matter how wrong-headed I might consider their policies to be—and no matter how much I might insist that they be held accountable for the results of such policies—I still find it possible, in talking to these men and women, to understand their motives, and to recognize in them values I share. “
