President-elect Barack Obama and President Bush met in the Oval Office for over an hour today, and Obama received his first look at the Situation Room. In a statement, Obama-Biden transition spokesperson Stephanie Cutter said that “they had a productive and friendly meeting,” including “a broad discussion about the importance of working together throughout the transition of government in light of the nation’s many critical economic and security challenges.”

The AP reports on the post-meeting events: “The president later escorted his successor to his limousine. Obama’s wife was leaving separately after her discussions with Laura Bush. None of the four spoke to reporters.” Full statement below:
President-elect Barack Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama were very warmly welcomed today at the White House by President George Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. Upon arriving, President-elect Obama and President Bush proceeded to the Oval Office, where they had a productive and friendly meeting that lasted for over an hour. They had a broad discussion about the importance of working together throughout the transition of government in light of the nation’s many critical economic and security challenges. President-elect Obama thanked President Bush for his commitment to a smooth transition, and for his and First Lady Laura Bush’s gracious hospitality in welcoming the Obama’s to the White House.
After a brief private meeting, the First Lady led Mrs. Obama on a tour of the White House that focused primarily on the private residence of the historic home. After this tour, the First Lady and Mrs. Obama visited in the West Sitting Hall, where they discussed raising daughters in the White House, as Jenna and Barbara Bush were similar in age to Malia and Sasha Obama when they visited their grandfather, President George H. W. Bush, during his presidency. Mrs. Obama was honored to finally meet the First Lady, who was a gracious hostess. Following their visit, Mrs. Obama met with Admiral Rochon, the White House Chief Usher.

November 10th, 2008 at 5:43 pmObama’s ‘Agenda’ Disappears From Change.gov
We noted Friday that President-elect Barack Obama’s transition Web site, Change.gov, included pages describing how he will use technology to increase public participation in government and provide more information to the public.
But sometime over the weekend, those pages went away. All that remains on the Agenda portion of the transition team’s site is a two-paragraph overview of what the agenda will include:
Well, the “lower expectations” campaign begins!

Awwww, that’s so cute. You piss-soaked trolls are so predictable.
November 10th, 2008 at 5:56 pm“Obama…given a look at the Situation Room.”
Bush: I’ve been tryin’ to find out what the sitcheachun is for almost eight years.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:11 pmOh, I disagree, Zooey. I find the higher level trolls were fairly predictable.
These backbenchers are utterly chaotic. You never know who they’re gonna make fools of themselves.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:11 pmI mean… you never know HOW they’re gonna make fools of themselves…
Sorry.

Its because they have so many ways to make fools of themselves.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:19 pmThe constant is that they always do make fools of themselves, though =D
uhhhb: The quote, from the site, actually invites the public to be part of the agenda and the change. Imagine that, involving “we the people” to be part of the change! (high expectations)…
“It’s Your America: Share Your Ideas
November 10th, 2008 at 6:30 pmThe story of the campaign and this historic moment has been your story. Share your story and your ideas, and be part of bringing positive lasting change to this country.”
Did they show him the “Big Board”?
November 10th, 2008 at 6:36 pmWhat’s Obama doing meeting with lawless dictators — who torture, engage in war crimes, and wantonly violate human rights — without preconditions?
What a message that sends….
Cheers,
November 10th, 2008 at 6:37 pmCan you believe that John H. Hinderaker of the conservative Powerline had this to say of Bush?
Does Hindrocket think his sh!t don’t stink?
November 10th, 2008 at 6:42 pmMarie, that must have been satire… or sarcasm.
…right?
November 10th, 2008 at 6:44 pmYe Gods, what is up with those hideous green striped chairs? It looks like the lawn furniture got moved inside by accident.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:45 pmuhhhbama seems to be stealing John Kerry’s dump and run strategy. What gives little white guy afraid of the black guy?
November 10th, 2008 at 6:49 pmI don’t think Hindrocket’s comment was satire — it came from Hotline at National Journal after Obama’s press conference last Friday.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:53 pmThis time Obama took a shower to get the bush STINK off of him.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:55 pmI hope President Obama brought along plenty of hand sanitizer
November 10th, 2008 at 6:56 pmmarie… that is just astounding…
i think he is really serious… … shaking head…
there will be no reaching some like that…
November 10th, 2008 at 7:32 pmThat’s a great point, Keltoi. It kinda looks like they decorated the Oval Office by hitting the Veterans Day Sale at Big Lots.
November 10th, 2008 at 7:48 pmLike it or not, folks, for the last seven years the President has taken the steps necessary to prevent another terrorist attack within our country.
The weight of this awesome responsibility will soon pass to the new President. This was undoubtedly high on the list of topics discussed in the meeting today.
I am certain that, unlike most of you here, Barack Obama went to the White House to listen and learn.
November 10th, 2008 at 8:00 pmHi Tim Vaculik
November 10th, 2008 at 8:08 pmLike it or not the only reason it hasn’t happened is that they haven’t done it. Thinking anything was prevented is glasses of rose

Funny thing there! Did anyone get a tape of the conversation between Obama and Bush? Seems that Tim V did.

Wow so that’s it? The terrorists are free to strike at will and there’s nothing we can do about it? Pretty bleak view of things don’t you think?
November 10th, 2008 at 8:15 pmOh and Tim, you can bet that Obama will use the info given on national security, unlike the man he is following.
November 10th, 2008 at 8:15 pmAnother Chris:
November 10th, 2008 at 8:24 pmNo it isn’t bleak, it is more just an acknowledgement of reality. Unfortunate yes, bleak not so much. The thing to do is to work toward not making people want to do such things.
I am certain that, unlike most of you here, Barack Obama went to the White House to listen and learn.
Obama likely went to the White House to keep GDumbya company while Michelle and LaLa toured and dealt with the “First Lady” stuff.
GDumbya’s kind of a lonely old lame duck these days so Obama was showing compassion by letting him drone on and on. Other than that, there was nothing to learn from the moron.

Dur Chimpfurer should of stopped the first one.
November 10th, 2008 at 8:28 pmHow did this guy ever get approval? After the biggest air defense failure in our history, he becomes the mucho-macho “commander in chief” and people rally behind him. No court martial. No forensic investigations. He sat in a grade school classroom, for crying out loud!
I honestly don’t get it. The “trifecta” part, I get; but why Americans rallied around him escapes me completely. If Americans really believe that air traffic controllers can’t actually control air traffic, and that planes can become invisible by turning off their transponders, then why are they afraid of terrorists? They should be afraid of chaos and mismanagement leading up to an inevitable 20 plane pile up of a tarmac somewhere. They should be wondering when someone is going to get control of air traffic and what the hell NORAD is doing about air defense.
Too much television? Twelve years of public education? What?!

______
“So Democratic audiences are often surprised when I tell them that I don’t consider George Bush a bad man, and that I assume he and members of his Administration are trying to do what they think is best for the country.”
“…I find the President and those who surround him to be pretty much like everybody else, possessed of the same mix of virtues and vice, insecurities and long-buried injuries, as the rest of us. No matter how wrong-headed I might consider their policies to be—and no matter how much I might insist that they be held accountable for the results of such policies—I still find it possible, in talking to these men and women, to understand their motives, and to recognize in them values I share.”

Time to adjust your monitor folks.
That’s periwinkle (light blue).
It’s known as a calming color.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:23 amWhich drawer at the presidential desk is hiding Bush’s bottle(s) of Old Grandad 121?
November 11th, 2008 at 11:00 amIn 2006 The Dems stabbed Ned Lamont in the back!
In 2006, in his re-election campaign for Senator, Lieberman lost the Democratic primary bid to Ned Lamont, but ran as an Independent in the general election …
Five Democratic Senators maintained their support for Lieberman, and Lieberman also received the strong support of former Senator and Democratic stalwart Bob Kerrey, who offered to stump for him.[111] Democratic minority leader Harry Reid, while endorsing Lamont, promised Lieberman that he would retain his committee positions and seniority if he prevailed in the general election.
November 11th, 2008 at 11:17 amOne other fact you Bush haters conveniently ignore is that the President put together a transition team MONTHS ago before it even became apparent that Barack Obama might win.
What was the goal of this transition team? The President is determined to ensure among other things that there is a seamless transfer of operational aspects of all the myriad anti-terrorist activities that are ongoing. He is determined to ensure there are no gaps than can be exploited by our enemies.
The President has been providing unprecedented access to high-level security information to the Obama team as well as the McCain team for some time.
You folks are the one that need to “take a shower.” I’m pleased to know that the President elect doesn’t stoop to the gutter-level talk so common here.
