Did Palin Use GOP Funds To Buy Her Children Underwear?

piperpalin2.jpg After controversy erupted over Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) largely unauthorized spending spree, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) announced that she would no longer be wearing the expensive clothing: “Those clothes, they are not my property. … I’m not taking them with me.”

Palin, however, did take some clothes with her. The Republican party is planning to dispatch a lawyer to Alaska to “inventory and retrieve the clothes still in her possession.” According to Palin’s father, Chuck Heath, the governor spent the weekend separating out the GOP-bought clothes, including underwear for her daughters:

Palin’s father, Chuck Heath, said his daughter spent the day Saturday trying to figure out what belongs to the RNC.

“She was just frantically…trying to sort stuff out,” Heath said. “That’s the problem, you know, the kids lose underwear, and everything has to be accounted for.

“Nothing goes right back to normal,” he said.

Reports initially revealed that the RNC spent $150,000 on clothes for Palin from high-end stores. More recently, however, it has come out that after campaign aide Nicolle Wallace told Palin to “buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist,” the governor “began buying for herself and her family.” In the end, she spent “‘tens of thousands’ more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost.”

While there was considerable attention given to the clothes bought for Todd Palin, there have been fewer mentions of what was bought for their daughters. (At one point a picture emerged of Piper Palin carrying an expensive designer handbag, although it was later called out as possibly being a fake.)

One top McCain aide justified the Palin shopping spree by saying that someone needed to “spruce her up for national television.” It’s unclear how purchasing undergarments for her children fits into this goal. Inquiries by ThinkProgress to the RNC have not yet been returned.

I sure hope it was that dumbass waitwear stuff.

You know, there’s nothing new under the sun.

He bought me the fur mink five winters ago
And the gown the following fall
Then the necklace, the bag, the gloves, and the hat,
That was late ‘48 I recall
Then last night in his apartment
He tried to remove them all
And I said as I ran down the hall.

    Take back your mink
    Take back your pearls
    What made you think
That I was one of those girls?
    Take back the gown
    The gloves and the hat
    I may be down
But I’m not flat as all that.

I thought that each expensive gift you’d arranged
Was a token of your esteem
But when I think of what you want in exchange
It all seems a horrible dream
    Eek.

    Take back your mink
    Those old worn out pelts
    And go shorten the sleeves
    For somebody else.

And what about her house on the lake that Todd told reporters that him and “some friends” built in TWO MONTHS…at the same time the Sports Center was being built…it was built by the same construction company that built TED STEVENS house…

Where are the receipts for those building supplies Shara? Lost you say…your god doesn’t like liars and thieves.

They forgot to “spruce up her brain” first.

2 – Please don’t insult poor Miss Adelaide by comparing her with the Palinator!!

    Gad.

  6. Tired of being lied to says:

Looks more and more like Palin was running her own little “wealth redistribution” process for her family courtesy of the RNC’s (or somebody’s) money.

And now the ill-gotten Garanimals have got to go!

  7. dbadass says:

A so much wish they had adult garanimals… I need the help.

  8. gummitch says:

Piper, you bad girl! Anyone who’s been to England recognizes that obscene gesture she’s making in the photo. Shame on her. Make her give back the fake Louis Vuitton constructed by child labor in the Far East.

Let her keep the underwear, though. I mean, ick.

Not only that but the supposedly Democratic lawyer hired by the personnel board to find Ms. Palin not guilty in Troopergate was the attorney that handled the lawsuits on the Wasilla sports center disaster.

  13. ScrewBush says:

As far as I know, the McCain/Palin campaign have been saying that much of her spending spree was paid for by one generous GOP supporter. Call me stupid, but does that or does that not go way beyond the maximum $2,300 political contribution? Are they not admitting that someone broke the law?

  14. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Ms. Palin has told us that we need to “get over” Troopergate and move on. She has also told the press that she intends to continue to charge her state a per-diem for staying at her house and charge the state if her children travel with her. She sure went back to Alaska with a pumped up sense of self. Now, we will have to wait and see if the Alaskan legislature lets her get away with it. Right now they are 22 Republicans, 17 Democrats and 5 seats that are too close to count. Apparently they could end up with a “bi-partisan” legislature whether they want it or not!

  15. Above the Clouds says:

. . . and “conservatives” want Palin, DeLay, and/or Gingrich to “save” the Republican Party in 2012? Good luck with all that.

  16. DNFP says:

Well, they were caught off guard when they went to the big city – underwear is optional in the boonies.

  17. dbadass says:

From the look on her face I think we can all be glad she isn’t likely to every be presidential “firestarter” kid

  18. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Sorry, I was wrong, it’s a 22 Republican, 18 Democrat split, with 5 House races still to be decided.

If you want to read more about Queen Sarah’s proclamation that she will do anything she wants to do, go to http://mudflats.wordpress.com/.

  19. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Did you all see the photoshopped version of that picture of Piper? It was hysterical.

Anyway, I can’t believe that Sarah brought any of the new clothes home with her after saying they were not hers. If she did, I do believe that was theft. And saying that some have been lost. How in the hell do you lose clothes?

This woman is a real piece of work!

  24. misshusseinmolly says:

I am still somewhat baffled. As far as I know, the McCains, the Obamas, and the Bidens all managed to pay for their own clothes, as well as clothes for all members of their families who appeared on stage with them.

Now, I know that the McCains are considerably more well off than the Palins, and I doubt anyone expected Sarah to appear with a couple hundred thousand dollars’ worth of bling.

But the Palins are hardly poor. Isn’t the Alaska governor’s salary sufficient to buy decent clothes? Why was it necessary for them to spend so much of someone else’s money just to look presentable?

  25. Rufus J Squirrel says:

The headline for this story and its content are really in exceptionally poor taste. The RNC bought her clothes and spent an insane amount of money doing it. We get it.

But discussions about children’s underwear, complete with an image of said child, is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I would expect a lot more from our side not even a week after such an incredible victory made possible by discussing real and important issues and not all of this trivial, low-brow stuff. Cool it.

  26. Luis M says:

Maybe the Alaskan outfits of wolf hides and caribou fat weren’t considered to be fashionable enough down in the southern states. Plus the fat started to decompose.

    /I keed, Alaskans.

  27. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Come on guys. Leave Piper alone. She’s only 7 years old. Her mom and dad are total jerks and opportunists, but she’s just a little kid.

It was illegal and they got caught. It exposes them for what they are, petty thieves.

We have a right to enjoy thier demise as their campaign was painfully bigoted and greed and self-righteousness oozed from it.

Guess you haven’t heard the lies that are being told at redstate about the clintons stealing and destroying things on their way out of the white house. The gao investigation said they found nothing out of the ordinary yet the right is telling it for truth.

this palen thing is right down their alley except palen et al got caught and are actually guilty.

guess the irony is lost on ya.

  29. impeachcheneythenbush says:

But the Palins are hardly poor. Isn’t the Alaska governor’s salary sufficient to buy decent clothes? Why was it necessary for them to spend so much of someone else’s money just to look presentable?

I read that they have a net worth of around $1.2 million. Not super wealthy by any means, but a heck of a lot more than the majority of Americans have.

  30. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Hey Fred, I think Squirrel’s comment was about directing ire at Piper, Palin’s 7-year-old daughter. While Sarah and Todd are certainly fair game, their youngest daughter is not.

  31. dbadass says:

Did I miss something? Who is hassling the kid?

  32. Gregor Samsa says:

Sarah Palin is only against wealth redistribution when the money goes to help people who are actually in need.

She couldn’t very well be photographed with her children wearing untanned polar bear pelts.

  34. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I didn’t see the posts on this being directed towards Piper, other than my comment about the photoshopped picture which was pretty funny. In case you missed it, go here:

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/piper.asp

Lighten up. Piper Palin is more likely to be scarred by this whole campaign because her mother drug her around the country and used her as a prop than by a couple of comments in a blog.

  35. Krazny says:

Honestly I don’t care. Palin won’t be VP, thank God I just hope she disappears up in Alaska never to be heard from again.

  37. ralph the wonder llama says:

    Palin (n)
    1. An applicant lacking even basic job skills

HR sent me another Palin for the marketing manager job.

  39. Game of Life says:

mooseyak should accept her per diem and forget about the clothes, draws and all.

And isn’t her father just as crazy as the rest of their family?

  40. Jackie says:

Every Mother knows you can’t return underwear smart Sarah. Now as for those lost clothes well there really not lost their the most expensive one’s she wants to keep. Look the RNC knows Sarah isn’t going to give back all the clothes and most likely they will get her own used clothes as replacements. Sarah just continued to do what she does in Alaska with the taxpayers money and she did real good. Now if she has to come back and campaign for the RNC again she will have to have another shopping spree as she will bring the hold family again.

The headline for this article is absolutely disgusting and in the worst possible taste. Who could possibly care over her daughter’s underwear. Quite frankly, if the RNC can’t keep track of their budget – it is their fault.

  45. dbadass says:

No need to get your panties all bunched up…

  46. Danko Ramone says:

I didn’t care about the clothing story at first. It didn’t shock me at all the repubs would spend 150k on clothing her up, jewelry, hair stylists and maybe even a toe rubber. I half expected to read she went shopping with Cindy McCain.

Then, the details came out. Her greed, her sense of entitlement, shopping for Todd and the kids…and the not letting McCain know, because they KNEW he’d be upset. And then of course, her constant goddamned lies and distortions about it, all the while having that smug smile that said “I’m doing what I want, and if I want to do it, that makes it ok”.

She’s not just an idiot, a liar, whatever. She really is a peice of shit shaped like a human.

  47. bryankc says:

What I find humorous is that people actually actually believe the stuff that emerges on the internet in blogs written by “so-called” adults still sitting in the basement of their parents’ house and drawing unemployment.

  53. bryankc says:

    Game of Life

If a person is working – they aren’t drawing unemployment. If said person hadn’t of purchased a home they couldn’t afford in the first place, they wouldn’t be in foreclosure.

Could you pass me the Doritos please? I just got home from work and made the last payment on my house last year! :-)

  54. tablogloid says:

Lat us not utter Sarah’s name again. Every time we do, she is getting publicity. Cast your ad hominems at Bush and his gang of thugs. Their evil, illegal deeds need to be publicized. Bring them to justice now.

  55. gus smith says:

“……and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost.”
Now there is a quote to live in infamy. Could you imagine Palin running any aspect of the VP or presidency when she is not even competent to return articles that have been of public notoriety and that she has promised to return? Where is her credibility? Sounds like the Bush 43 administration where nothing gets done, up is down and nobody is responsible. I could go on and on….

  58. Keith says:

The Palin family income is over $200,000 per year. That’s enough to buy your own clothes. She also went wild billing Alaska for her family’s expenses staying at their home or traveling with her. Spending $170,000 at Neiman-Marcus and Sachs and for makeup certaining showed the hypocrisy in her Jane Sixpack Real (not Fake) non-elite Middle American rhetoric.

  59. Keith says:

Kids lose lunchboxes and mittens. Outerwear. If those daughters are losing underwear, somebody from Child Protective Services needs to be called. NOW!

How many more unschooled pregnant underage daughters will it take before somebody figures out that the Palins are too stupid and venial to raise and educate children?

  61. EugeneDebs says:

    bryankc Says:

    Something moronic. 62. motorfingaz says:

That little girl is scarey. I noticed that on the night McCain introduced that family.

  63. trishthedish says:

Did they really think improving an ex beauty pageant contestant’s looks with $150k was the right place to invest that money? No wonder the republicans got us into a record budget deficit and lost the campaign. There needed to be money invested into her knowledge or better yet, just pick someone else. Heck I’ll take the money if they’re just giving money away.
Check out the following funny Palin McCain parody:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv9bvrN1QMU

  64. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Well, the lack of underwear thing certainly goes along the line of those thoughtless unwanted pregnancies by Palin and daughter. Maybe it was some of Mittens “magic” underwear though? (And I agree, who can’t buy their kid underwear on their own dime when they have an income over $100,000 a year? Couldn’t they find a Walmart?) And that brings up a disgusting image of Spears coming out of a car, too. ICK!
How bad is this woman when her own dad can’t keep his mouth shut about her spending sprees?
I’d let this have a pass if it wasn’t so damn funny to blog about.
These people are the skid marks of society.

Actually, upnorth, I can have very erudite commentaries that have nothing at all to do with underwear or potty-minded ideas. I just think it’s hilarious that she is being outed by her own father on the grandiose scale spending spree that she went on and that the media is calling her out on it. By the way, that comment of yours directed at me, saw it on a tee shirt in the 80s.

  70. MrSquirrel says:

I heard that Todd even got some silk underwear out of the shopping spree. Which would be okay, I guess, if he showed up at the rallies with no pants on.

  71. Bozo The Neoclown says:

upnorth…sarah, is that you? sorry you got yer butt handed to you in the election. hey, shouldn’t you be sorting out the clothes you stole from the RNC instead of posting on a blog? just sayin’

  72. southrnbelle says:

    Somebody is seriously LYING here.

She claimed last night on FOX NOISE that the RNC purchased the clothes and brought them to her. She claims she did not do the shopping.

  73. MapleStreet says:

  74. GL2814 says:

Would that be for the change of underwear Palin’s kids needed once they realized she lost the race?
