Ingraham Rails Against Schwarzenegger, Tells California: ‘Just Secede Already’

laura.jpgSunday on CNN Late Edition, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) encouraged his party to “not to get stuck in ideology, in the ideological corners” and instead offer broader solutions to America’s most pressing problems, especially climate change and the health care crisis. “Let’s clean our ocean, let’s clean our water, let’s clean our air, let’s create health care reform, let’s pass the budget, let’s fix the budget deficit and the structural deficit.”

The comments infuriated right-wing radio host Laura Ingraham, who railed against Schwarzenegger yesterday. She said she had “never, never, ever gotten the whole Schwarzenegger thing,” finally declaring California should “secede” from the United States:

INGRAHAM: Arnold Schwarzenegger is embarrassing on so many levels. … Every time we look to moderate to liberal Republicans for answers, we’re disappointed. Not only are we disappointed, we end up getting shafted. [...]

I read this and my blood boils. Left coast? I mean, just secede already, at this point. Okay. Secede already. I can’t take it anymore from California.

Listen here:

The fact that Schwarzenegger also repeated his opposition to the anti-gay amendment, Proposition 8, certainly did him no favors with Ingraham either. In fact, he said the law “falls into the same category” of anti-miscegenation laws from the early 20th century that banned blacks and whites from marrying.

The Schwarzenegger-Ingraham debate reflects the larger struggle within the Republican party. While National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Ensign (R-NV) said last week that the party shouldn’t focus on abortion or anti-gay marriage amendments, Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) insisted the party should double down on the issues, focusing on “a belief in the sanctity of life and the sanctity of marriage.”

Are there reasonable Republican voices in the media nowadays? It seems to get on the radio/TV/Internet you need to totally froth at the mouth: Ingraham, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, Drudge, Schlesinger, Prager, &c.–They’re all loons. The most reasonable conservative voices I’ve heard on the radio are Howard Stern (!) and the more-Libertarian-than-not Adam Carolla.

I know there’s some middle-of-the-road folks–not everyone is Bill Kristol, but where are they? Am I stuck reading Friedman? Why is a reasoned conservative voice so hard to find?

Just from a practicality standpoint, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep California and get rid of Ingraham? Perhaps there’s a nice remote island out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean somewhere where she won’t be bothered by the voices of progressives who want to improve things.

  22. SWBob says:

Repubs only know one tactic. . . attack, attack, attack. The rational doesn’t have to make sense, they are simply in love with being mean and discounting everyone who doesn’t share their views.

  23. jpopphan says:

I have often thought that California should secede from the US, but not for the same reason as Ingraham does.

California has the sixth largest economy in the world. California is a fairly progressive state in most respects, the outcome of Prop 8 notwithstanding.

Another reason that Ingraham probably wants California to secede is because it is usually reliably blue and friendly to national Democrats. It also has a huge number of electoral votes. Without California, it becomes a bit harder for a Democrat to win the presidency – ergo Ingraham’s beef with CA.

Hmmm…Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Gretchen Carlson, Elizabeth Hasslebeck (and even Ainsley Hayes on The West Wing — played by Emily Proctor) — all blonde.

Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann aren’t blonde, though. Perhaps the ones with brown hair actually run for office, and the blonde ones just pontificate.

But they do have a rather uncanny knack for looking somewhat alike — despite differences in hair color.

It’s worth saying that if we always allowed the people to determine by direct vote who got rights and who didn’t, very few people would have any.

Today, women have the right to vote.
Today, 18-year olds have the right to vote.
Today, nobody has to pay a poll tax to vote.
Today, there are no Jim Crow laws, and racial segregation is illegal.
Today, a woman has the right to do with her own body as she wishes unless she is carrying a fetus old enough to be viable outside the womb.
Today, it is illegal for a person in this country to be the property of another person.

All of the above items came about through our courts or our elected officials. None came about through a direct vote by the people.

And the time will come when gays will be considered people, and treated by the law as such. But it may take the SCOTUS to say so.

Fabricating enemies is a staple of the rightwing and your ignorant projection is transparent to all. I guess the evil white man comment was just the latest in a long line of your ignorant delusions since in a thread about Ingraham attacking California and Swartzenegger I cant think of where else it could possibly come from. Astonishing ignorance is the HALLMARK of conservaves, you moronic self deluded and brainwashed imbecile

It’s also funny how countries like Canada, England , France, Italy, Germany to name a few “lib countries” have a higher standard of living. So much for our system.

Oh by the way….the total callapse of the economy has not accured as of yet and when it does we can all cellibrate the conservative movement. Then we can all rejoice in the death of conservatives. Fricken Idiots

Thank you, JT, bit appreciates your remarks.

To be up front about it, though, bit didn’t service to insure that these ideals: a woman can destroy her preborn child and call it freedom to privacy and two same-same gender people can commit perversion and call it marriage, remain a part of the American way of life.

So to sum it all up, once a group of Republicans do the parties bidding, Laura wants them gone for what the Governor says. Oh yeah, I sure don’t hear Laura disagreeing with Ahnuld’s little gerrymandering B.S. Proposition that got approved.

where was I? Oh, that’s right — dismantling the troll’s silly argument that the sub-prime real estate market was somehow a manifestation of “liberal policies”.

Yeah, market deregulation which led to more elaborate and complex mortgage leveraging, which in turn spread the risk across more parties, which in turn led otherwise responsible financial firms to feel confident taking on riskier investments… yeah, I can see how that sounds pretty liberal — to an idiot.

Whether or not the Gov believes that same-same gender marriage, so-called, represents equal rights, he doubtlessly believes in generating revenue.

The number of same-same gender marriages, so-called, reported – 18,000 couples – represents 0.1% of the population of CA and about 3.29% of the homosexuals in CA. Since CA doesn’t have a residency requirement for issuing these same-same gender marriage, so-called, licenses, the actual number of CA homosexuals involved with be less than the 18,000 couples.

The confrontation developed when homosexual activists gathered at the Palm Springs City Hall for a protest following voters’ approve by a margin of nearly 53 percent to 47 percent a state constitutional amendment that recognizes only a marriage between a man and a woman. The amendment specified that it is effective immediately. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, however, is encouraging an effort led by the ACLU to overturn the measure in court.

Prior to the aborted interview, KPSP captured footage of Burgess carrying a cross to portray her objection to homosexual marriage on biblical grounds.

Burgess barely had arrived when the cross was knocked from her hand then stomped on the ground.

About 10 minutes later, the on-scene reporter, Kimberly Cheng, tried repeatedly to complete her interview.

“She just wants to express her viewpoint, sir,” she tells a protester who was waving his arms in her face.

The video later was posted on the San Francisco State University College Republicans’ website.

Ryan Sorba, chairman of the college group, said the video “is astounding and chilling and speaks for itself.”
