Brave New Films: Strip Lieberman of his gavel.

Last summer, Brave New Films delivered a petition with 43,000 signatures to congressional leadership with the message, “Lieberman must go.” Today, the project released a new film emphasizing that Lieberman is no progressive. Watch it:

BNF is asking people to call their representatives and Senators and urge them to remove Lieberman from his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.

Update According to Senate sources, President-elect Barack Obama has indicated he would not like to kick Lieberman out of the caucus. But there is no clear indication what Obama might feel about Lieberman losing his chairmanship over the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Update Hotline's Blogometer has more on the netroots reactions to Lieberman.

LIEberman is one of my senators. Do ya think it would be in poor taste to call his office and demand he be stripped of his chair?

  2. katy says:

REMOVE Lieberman from his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.

    that’s all I ask…

    NO CHAIRMANSHIP.

Evan Bayh wants to bring Joe Lieberman, back into the fold. Bayh is a corporatist. The Carlyle Group is number 7 on his donor list.

Lieberman is not progressive as TP so ably pointed out. But neither are House Blue Dogs or a number of Senators like Bayh, Baucus, Landrieu, & Conrad.

I agree that Joe knows politically damning information. His length of service in the Washington cesspool virtually guarantees such.

A way is being made for Jewish Joe to return to the blue team. Is this Haaretz article part of plan?

Zionist buddy of the idiot and his cronies. An absolute traitor!

  5. Keith H. says:

    harry loves him some joe

  6. liberal traitor says:

The fact that Lieberman still holds his post after Obama’s win says that he has dirt on key players.

This is the only reason he is still there.

  7. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Yes, we should all have called our congressmen and representatives about removing Joe from his chairmanship. I don’t think unbiased responsibility in that position is something he will be capable of, rather, that he will be a repug lapdog nipping at the heels of Obama for his entire presidency.

  8. Buckie Boy says:

I don’t see how the Dems can stomach this POS, they are just trying to be nice and get along…PHUCK THAT…kick the traitor off his chair.

Mmmm. First of all, the Senate likes to consider itself the “deliberative” body, the one is never hasty. Oh, and gentlemanly (when one of them isn’t beating another one over the head with a cane — ah, the good old days). Secondly, this is still a lame duck session and the Democrats don’t seem to really understand what a powerful position they’re in; I think they need a little practice.

If I was a Democratic Senator, I’d demand he lose his chairmanship and that he owed a public apology to the Party and, more importantly, to President Elect Obama. Then I might let him join us in the lunchroom.

  10. katy says:

just who ARE “the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee” members?

  11. Zimzone says:

Strip him of any chairships, I say.

If he had been (R) during the campaign and trashing McCain the way he did Obama, what do you think they would have done?

    -Tar & feather

    -Firing squad

    -Censured

    -Stripped of key positions

I think a ‘new sheriff in town’ attitude with some of these jokers is not only appropriate, but necessary.

Does the Senate have a committee on garbage and recycling? It might be a good place for Joe.

Waffling on FISA, the tapping of Rahm Emmanuel as Chief of Staff , support of lieberman and if the report from the WSJ all send a very bad signal to the progressive community that help the new president into office through their hard work and money .
I agree we will have to wait and see but so far far the signs are not very good .

  14. stateofthedivision says:

Dr. Hussein Matt, skilled identifier of trolls.

I can only conlude your positions:

    Vote on FISA-telecom immunity good
Rahm Emanuel Chief of Staff progressive pick
Centrist approach on interrogations and domestic spying hallelujia

  15. freeman says:

The heimat security committee which Lieberman chairs should be abolished as should the so called war on terror .It looks more dangerous to our open society than is useful .Here’s a bill which now sits in Joe’s committee which many people are calling the thought crime bill and which critics say would make blogging dangerous and allow the government to arrest people preemptively .

The house version advanced by Jane Harmon is scarier than the senates version .

  16. freeman says:

Thinking is the next crime ? Blackwaters attempts to go into the domestic intelligence business will be lucrative .

  17. avchavis says:

Off with his head! It’s time for Lieberman to retire!

  18. bronzbootz says:

You wouldn’t be mocked around here if everything you said wasnt obviously redundant and patronizing.

  19. fletc3her says:

Lieberman has signaled an intent to filibuster to derail Obama’s platform. He should not be granted a committee chairmanship from which he can derail the platform directly.

  20. SPQR says:

Geez, with all the support he seems to have, he should open his own chain of stores: Traitor Joe’s.

every time i see that little twit i’m reminded of Henry Gibson. the guy who used to recite those silly poems on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh In.

    yes, i’m old.

  24. stateofthedivision says:

More along the Think Centrist line. If TC had a news wrapup post for today, I would’ve place it there. Given none, here’s the future of “too big to fail” under a centrist administration:
