Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich leads incumbent Republican Ted Stevens by 3 votes in the latest tally. “The new numbers, reflecting nearly 43,000 absentee ballots counted today, are from all over the state.” On election night, Stevens led Begich by about 3,000 votes. The Division of Elections still has 10,000 more ballots to count today and roughly 35,000 additional absentee and questioned ballots over the next week.
Heh. A lot of Dems voted early….
November 12th, 2008 at 9:31 pmWow. That actually makes sense! The convicted felon is behind, albeit by a tiny amount. Lets hope it holds.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:32 pmI predict the DEms will get away with stealing at least three of the contested seats held by Republicans.
Just keep counting til you get the results you want!

How’s life in the political outback?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:45 pmAlaska votes tend to take a while, since they don’t have daily mail service everywhere; much of it is done by bush pilots on a weekly basis.
I’m sure the Republicans would prefer if we just stopped whenever they were ahead, but it’s important to count all of the ballots submitted, in a systematic way to get a complete result.
That’s not partisan, it’s merely correct.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:55 pmProgressive Alaska is a good site if watching this race.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:02 pmThis should force Stevens to accept it’s over. But it won’t. When an immoral, crooked cracker like Saxby Chambliss comes gunning for you over your extra-curricular activities, it’s all over but the crying.

Governor Palin runs a state where it takes them weeks to get votes counted and she wanted to be VP.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:12 pmSince this is an election overseen by a Palin administration in Alaska, there should be no charges or accusations of tampering. Begich just followed the national trend of getting more Dems to vote early/absentee.

November 12th, 2008 at 10:14 pmIn Alaska. more than 90,000 votes remain uncounted. More than 224,000 votes were cast on Election Day. So almost a third of the votes remain unknown a week after election day.
Palin might as well be student council president.

November 12th, 2008 at 10:28 pmTim has a problem with counting 90,000 votes in Alaska and then projects some sort of irrational diatribe about democratic voter fraud when he doesn’t like what the votes say. Tim is a moron….
November 12th, 2008 at 10:35 pmThat’s just a synonym for “Tim is online”.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:40 pmIt would be awesome if Begich still ends up up by 3 after all certification and challenges are over. That would make me grin.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:40 pmYeah, but I bet the Repubs would claim that those three votes were Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Duran Duran.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:47 pmLooks like Tim has a real fear of the Dems. Must because of all that bringing back Consitutional law and stuff.
Nov. 4th must have been a real downer, eh Timmy Boy?

I never said Senator Stevens race was one I had in mind. There are others.
I have no problem with respect to counting all the votes, just the ones done AFTER the election behind closed doors.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:01 pmThen why post the comment in a thread about the Alaska Senate race?
Don’t be so coy, Timmeh. Which races specifically conform to this description, in your learned opinion?
November 12th, 2008 at 11:04 pmTim,
The Dems are not in control of the Alaska election, the Repubs are!
The Dems do not make the voting machines and tabulators, far-right, theocratic conservatives do!
Do you realize what a huge percentage 90,000 votes in Alaska are?
There is something fishy going on in Alaska—second lowest turnout in its history after record new registrations?—but the Repubs are in control.

EXPOSE LIBERAL CORRUPTION — With the Democrats back in power in both Congress and the White House, you KNOW that they’ll be falling right back into their habits of taking lobbyists’ money under the table, trading votes for campaign contributions, spying on and sabotaging Republican legislative plans, covering up their leaders’ sexual “flings,” and spending taxpayer money on personal expenses like never before. But this time, YOU AND I will be there every step of the way, making sure that no stone is left unturned, every dark corner is filled with light, and every illegal act is paid for with censure, impeachment, recalls, investigations, and jail time for every criminal we expose in Washington, D.C.

Q U E S T I O N:
How did 900,000 ballots go missing?
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=6654
… I bet’ch Ted is happy they were found *wink*!
.
November 13th, 2008 at 12:55 amOops, too many zeros… I meant 90,000.
Dear Tim,
Had those ballots not been found, would you be happy knowing that ALL the votes were counted? I mean, who’s the wiser when you can abscond the evidence, NO? And now that they were found, you should be all that more happy that ALL the votes will be counted, not just the ones the elections wanted to count in the first place. Nothing like counting until the desired outcome is accomplished, no? And the first count wasn’t desirable? For whom? And the victor of the first count didn’t even question the totals… It sounded good enough because that was the total that made Ted, the Felon, Stevens a winner?
No matter who wins the outcome, the shear fact that 90,000 ballots were “MISSING” should cause alarm at the system that originally didn’t care that they were missing in the first place. What part of that system is defensible as being close to democratic?
.
November 13th, 2008 at 1:06 am#22: I never said Senator Stevens race was one I had in mind. There are others.
Which ones?
I have no problem with respect to counting all the votes, just the ones done AFTER the election behind closed doors.
Again, where?
Seems like your commenting on this thread suggests that you think the Alaska race is being “stolen,” simply because Alaska happened to count the Begich-leaning districts after it counted the Stevens-leaning ones. That’s why we count ALL the ballots, Tim–not just the FIRST ones we get to.
November 13th, 2008 at 1:31 amAs Joe Stalin said, “It’s not who votes that counts, it’s who counts the votes”.

November 13th, 2008 at 6:47 amBegich now leads by 814,with 20,000 lef to count:
The Alaska Division of Elections counted 60,000 absentee ballots and provisional ballots yesterday and Sen. Ted Stevens’ 3200-vote lead over Anchorage mayor Mark Begich has been completely erased. Begich now leads by 814 votes, with another 20,000 absentee ballots that arrived after election day yet to be counted
http://www.electoral-vote.com/
November 13th, 2008 at 7:28 amChambliss may not get the chance to slap Stevens down. Nate Silver has this as a 100 pct win for Begich and has since Oct.
November 13th, 2008 at 7:32 amSo with 90,000 votes to be counted Stevens led Begich by 3,257
At 28, 519 counted Stevens led Begich by 971
At 43, 000 (approx) counted Begich led Stevens by 3
At 61,000 (approx) counted Begich leads Stevens by 814
(figures from fivethirtyeight)
Nate Silver calculated (from the linear trend of early ballots that had already been counted) on Friday the 7th before the 90,000 count began that Begich had a good chance of winning by about 3,000 votes.
It looks like the trend is on course. With 61,000 (approx) counted in three days and 29,000 (approx) left to go it should be officially all over by Friday night.
Snoozer , I see, finds 20,000 left to be counted.
November 13th, 2008 at 7:42 ammoondancer: Nate Silver has this as a 100 pct win for Begich and has since Oct.
Since October? Impressive!
November 13th, 2008 at 7:47 amI wonder if Alaskan Republicans will appreciate that their State will actually be represented in the majority party instead of the minority? Well, some of them might anyway.

But somehow, you know Lieberman will find a way to have the Democratic caucus cup his balls.
November 13th, 2008 at 8:52 amI was hoping it would stay three votes difference for the Dems. Just to send a message to everyone how important voting is.
