Chambliss: My 2002 Attack Ad On Cleland Was ‘Truthful In Every Way’
During an interview with Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) on MSNBC this afternoon, host Andrea Mitchell noted that John McCain is campaigning for him in Georgia today even though McCain had strongly condemned one of his 2002 attack ads. That ad linked his opponent, Max Cleland, to Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.
Earlier this week, Chambliss defended the ad, calling it “a lightweight ad” and “very fair.” Today, Mitchell gave him another opportunity to repent, but Chambliss wouldn’t bite:
MITCHELL: Do you have any regrets in retrospect?
CHAMBLISS: You know, Andrea, that ad is truthful in every way. [...] He voted against George Bush eleven times on the issue of homeland security. [...] You have to remember the two most notible terrorists in the world at that point in time were Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. We were trying to protect the homeland. We were trying to create an agency that was going to protect Americans and in fact we did that, we did it without Cleland’s vote.

But the ad is not truthful. Chambliss claims that Cleland voted against vital homeland security efforts but in fact, Cleland was voting against a provision in a homeland security measure that would have stripped away the collective bargaining rights of federal employees — many of whom would form the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Of course, Cleland’s homeland security votes in no way linked him to either bin Laden or Saddam.
Cleland not only voted to authorize the use of military force in Afghanistan after Sept. 11, 2001, but he also co-sponsored legislation introduced in May 2002 that called for the creation of a cabinet-level DHS.
Thus, Chambliss’s claims that the attack ad was “very fair” and “truthful in every way” ring hollow. Even John McCain knows that.

November 13th, 2008 at 4:02 pmI don’t know Max Cleland well, and bin Laden probably is a terrorist of some sort, but the cronies of the Bush regime Whitehouse are by far the most blood thirsty and corrupt of the world today. bin Laden had nothing to do with the 9-11 destruction. The airliners were crashed for the terror effect to get backing for the Bush already planned invasions into the Middle East. The World trade center was a clear case of well planned expert demolition by people that were authorized to place the explosive ordinance. The invasions were based entirely on lies of the Bush regime. So far we have killed approximately a million and a half innocent people.

Saxby Chambliss is a Company Commander in one of the many Battalions of the Repuppetcan Chickenshit Brigades that are prevalant throughout this country. He didnt have it in him to serve just like his heroes Limbaugh, Delay, Cheney, and others (yes some Dems haven’t either) but the difference is he/they have the audacity to demonize and attack a man who left THREE, THREE limbs on the battlefield, and you juxtapose his pic with Saddam and Bin Laden because he voted against GEORGE BUSH’s philosophy of the war and how it should be fought!! You demonize a triple amputee because he disagreed with GEORGE BUSH. This is the same party that wore Purple Heart Band-Aids at their convention to beat up John Kerry. I have three (3) Purple Hearts (Panama 89, 1st and 4th tours in Iraq) and to a man you really cant see where or if I was injured unless you were there, but does that devalue the fact that I was in that position of danger? Does that mean mine and others Soldiers that recieved Purple Hearts but look fine didnt earn them? Does It!!?!!?!!

Tammy Duckworth an IRAQI VETERAN who lost two legs and decided to run for office but had the nerve to run as a Democrat wasn’t tough enough to “stand up” to the terrorist.
And guess whose coming to rescue Mr. Chambliss, John McCain. Here is a man that served in the U.S. Navy, served in Vietnam, was a POW and survived, ran for POTUS on a slogan of “Country First”, ran on his Military Record and now wants to help a guy who years ago ran the ad that he himself called “reprehensible”.
This man and this party is an affront to ALL who have worn and still wear the uniform. I retired in Dec 07 after 21 years 3 CIB’s, 2 Bronze Stars with “V” device, 3 Purple Hearts, and you know what. now I must wait with a faint heart for MY DAUGHTER to get through her first tour off of the votes, recommendations, policies, etc.. of people like Saxby Chambliss and his legions of toy Soldiers.
If you cant beat someone on their or your record, or if you cant beat them on the issues, dont demonize them like that, especially a War Veteran that has laid it all on the line and left his/her body on the battlefield just to win an election.
You just dont do that.

What could have gone so bad medically in Clarence’s life that caused him to be rejected for Military Service or 1-Y – Registrant qualified for service only in time of war or national emergency, which wasn’t the case for the Vietnam War
