Michael Moore’s new documentary will tackle economy.

moore.gifThe Hollywood Reporter reveals that Michael Moore’s new documentary will focus on the global financial crisis and the U.S. economy. Moore is “feverishly shooting,” and it is expected to come out as early as this spring. “The untitled movie will contain an end-of-the-empire tone, say those familiar with the project.” Craig Minassian, an entertainment consultant, said, “If Moore offers a prescription for how to improve things, he may indeed find an audience that at this moment is eager for change,” but cautioned “it’s going to be hard for him. What this election shows is what’s right with America, and sometimes what Michael Moore does is highlight what’s wrong with America.”

Wow…the quotes in the header for this thread sound vaguely critical of Moore. You feeling okay, Faiz?

  2. Anonymouse says:

    Oh, please.

Michael Moore is like Tom Friedman. I’m embarrassed to say I agree with them on some things, because that implies I agree with them on issues on which I think they’re tragically wrong.

Plus, I don’t think it does progressive causes any good to be championed by someone with such a flexible attitude towards the truth.

  3. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I, on the other hand, am a fan of Michael Moore and I look forward to this new movie. One of the challenges we face right now is showing people where things went wrong, so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes. Once people understand why the policies of the last eight years have led to ruin, they won’t be so eager to support doing the same things.

  4. stewarjt says:

Moore’s already done one on the economy. It’s called “Roger and Me.”

  5. stewarjt says:

    And, “The Big One.”

I recall on the morning of the passage of the $700 billion bail out bill, Moore was online railing against its passage and calling it straight out theft. If he is going to do a documentary on this issue that comes out after Obama is Prez and the Dems are firmly in control of both houses, I wonder how he will avoid being very critical of them? It will be very interesting to see how he couches his political assessment of this situation.

OT Bush today said that the economic crash is not the result of freemarket problems and more regulation is not the answer. He also said that European countries have had the same problems in their home market as the US has even with more regulations. Utter BS.

The last 100,000 seconds can’t go fast enough!

Is it? Why is it? I believe the EU countries do have more regulations, and they are having to bail out their banking systems with government chits…if you are refering specifically to a mortgage crisis due to subprime lending, I am with you. But lots of regulation didn’t shield them from a general banking crisis similar to what we are experiencing.

I don’t know if you remember how he treated Clinton in an interview with Marilyn Manson in his “Bowling for Columbine” when they were talking about the hipocrisy of Clinton when he was gleefully bombing Baghdad and then mourning the kids in Columbine.

You can agree with him or not, but on the Iraq thing, he was dead on since the beginning and he has exposed the media (CNN’s Blitzer and O’Reilly) hipocrisy on the subject.

Roger & Me is one of my fav protesting movies ever. The guy is one of the best thing your country has, IMHO.

Keltoi, Bush specifically said subprime lending in Europe. I couldn’t believe my ears.

Touche on the equal opportunity non-sequiter attack on Presidents of both parties in that particular instance; I am a High School teacher, and to conflate Columbine with Kosovo in any way shape or form is typical Moore Sophistry.

And I do think you’d have to agree Moore attacks Republicans with far more gusto than the Dems.

Thanks for visiting TheZoo, LLAP. I wrote that one. ;)

Juan: You said Baghdad, I am pretty sure it was the air war in the former Yugoslavia he was referencing, but it was a long time ago and my memory could be off.

  16. Juan C. says:

    Moore Sophistry?

    Could you elaborate?

Oh. I was at work, and have long ago burned out the nerve that would allow me to actually listen to a Bush speech. I salute your masochism in service to the cause.

    Ummm…Yep! He is dumb!

  18. ElBruce says:

I usually like his movies, except for the parts where he tries to play “gotcha” on streetcorners. Look, somebody’s getting in their limo to go to lunch, they’re not going to be prepared to answer a bunch of leading questions that make them look bad. Even if they are bad guys, that’s still simply unfair tactics.

But I agree with some of the quotes. I don’t see how showing us how much everything sucks right now is going to help fix it. It’d just be more of a downer.

  19. Juan C. says:

Keltoi, I know Clinton’s most important bombing was Serbia (name one of your Pres that hasn’t bombed another country), but he also bombed Iraq.

And you are correct. It was Serbia the bombing that is mentioned in the movie. I get confused between Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling…

William Henry Harrison! President for 23 days before dying of pneumonia and served 63 years before Kittyhawk! Too easy, Amigo. ;)

  22. Michael Lafferty says:

…sometimes what Michael Moore does is highlight what’s wrong with America.

Nice try, moron. [God, that is quickly becoming my favorite term of endearment!]

What Michael Moore does is highlight what is wrong—or inconsistent, uncaring or downright mean—with a particular segment of American economic, political or social life, NOT what is “…wrong with America” [the nation.] What a stupid observation to make. Akin to the simplistic, jingoistic claim that “…America is the greatest nation on earth!” and the ilk.

Instead of trying to tell us what motivates and propels Michael Moore, meat head, how about making the reasonably astute observation that his message might not be well received by an angry, confused public? Or, something.

And, ‘entertainment consultant?’ Just exactly how does that qualify you, Craig Minassian—I ask rhetorically, of course—to draw such a conclusion.

I’m a long time lurker there.

  24. Perry logan says:

I wish Michael would do a film about election fraud.

In a very real sense, the collapse of the economy–and of democracy, the environment, the infrastructure, American self-esteem, etc.–can be traced back to Republican election fraud, which is the most underreported story ever.

It’s my belief that Obama is President partly because the voters wanted him, and partly because Karl Rove decided not to flip this one.

  25. dae says:

Turn the bailout on its head. It looks like the bailout is so open ended it can be put to almost any use. Congress should curtail Paulson from frittering it away and hand it off to Obama so he can utilize it to good effect. If Moore wants to do a public service make a movie that shows how the money can help the American people regain their dignity.

  26. johnfive says:

Moore should investigate why the US Government doesn’t create it’s own currency interest free.
