We dont vote on rights. If we did miscegenation laws would probably still be on the books of more than a dozen states. In the end the forces of intolerance are going to lose this debate. Laws are not made according to either ONE of our opinions. I think adultery is immoral but I am not clamoring to make it illegal. I think morons shouldnt vote but I am not trying to make a law that says they shouldnt vote. See how it works?

I most certainly do see how it works. I didn’t suggest that I get to decide on morality; hence the sentence, “Society sets its standards.” As Obama says, “…American society can choose to carve out a special place for the union of a man and a woman as the unit of child rearing most common to every culture.” Like you, I’m not clamoring to make illegal an act that I consider immoral. I agree that public opinion will ultimately change on this issue as our society continues its decline.

Upright, you’re right we don’t get to decide what is criminal, its widely agreed upon what are general morals and values of the human rights, which is where our laws come from. Homosexuality is widely agreed upon by those who believe in equal rights.

I don’t bash anyone. I believe homosexuality is wrong, but I have no interest in how people choose to live their lives as long as they don’t try to force their opinions on others. I also agree with President-elect Obama that society isn’t obligated to equate homosexual relationships with traditional family relationships. I agree with him that society can recognize legal relationships among homosexuals without changing the traditional understanding of marriage.

It was inherent. It doesn’t have to be blatant to be criminal.

palens attempts to stir racial hatred did not directly call for it either but it was just as dangerous, obviously.

I assure you, what Miller said doesn’t even come close to being criminal. Your insistence on calling something like this a hate crime diminishes those who are actually victims of hate crimes. Similar to the way those who died at the hands of the Nazis are diminished by those who compare the minor losses of freedom we’ve experienced to Nazism.
