Laura Bush elaborates on Michelle Obama’s White House tour: ‘I showed her the closets.’

In an interview with CNN that aired today, First Lady Laura Bush described her Monday meeting with Michelle Obama at the White House. She said she told Michelle that “this house really can be a home” and showed her “all the things that women are interested in.” The First Lady didn’t elaborate on what those “things” were, beyond, “I showed her the closets.” Watch it:

I guess that leaves out the Oval Office…

  8. spencers mom says:

Was Jeff Gannon/James Guckert in one of those closets? With Rove and/or Lindsay Graham?

Or were the closets simply filled with skeletons?

If I were Michelle, I’d make sure there was a full fumigation before moving my family in there. Oh, and sweep for electronic bugs, too.

    PEACE

Can’t imagine the look on Michelle Obama’s face seeing all them nasty Bush family skeletons in those closets. Scary.

Showing Michelle Obama the closets is probably the most exciting thing Laura has done over the last eight years.

Just think how wonderful it is going to be to have an intelligent, vivacious and funny first family to represent this nation to the world. I wonder how many “first wives” of heads of state have been bored to tears with Laura Bush.

Any word on which closet that Jeff Gannon might have used?

  17. katy says:

well, i must say, i’m a bit disappointed with this story…

i just heard a really good one on rachel maddow – AAR …

horrible stories out of (is it pakistan?) where women are being abused (more than ever) – even throwing acid on school girls…

laura bush wrote an official proclamation denouncing those acts…

maybe a thread devoted to that story would be helpful…

and you can’t have too much closet space also…

  18. LiberalVoter says:

And in January Michelle Obama gets to show Laura Bush the door! And Barack and the American people get to show Bush and Cheney the door as well! About damn time!!!

  19. barfly says:

I would have enjoyed watching Michelle’s reactions to Laura’s guided tour; being friendly, and effusive to the wife of a war criminal, while mentally redoing the rooms her predecessor took pains to furnish.

All the hillbilly decor will be in the dumpster by Jan 21. Bet on it.

    Two questions:

    1. How many times has Laura had to flush Dumbya out of these closets and into the Oval Office to do his job…especially when meeting foreign heads of state?

    2. Is it true that the White House wardrobe not only leads to Narnia but to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe as well?

  23. lokidog says:

    Who the heck knows?

Maybe her and Michelle burned one in the Rose Garden and then Laura showed her where she grows her own.

Laura: The Secret Service NEVER comes in here. I tell George it’s where the government keeps Noriega and only Cheney is allowed in there. He just nods and pretends he knows it. HEY! Why don’t I just leave the equipment and sh*t for you?

    Michelle: Girl, SOLID!

    (fist bump between the two)

“Joe The Plumber” Book Deal Details Emerge

In a somewhat predictable move, Joe The Plumber, aka Samuel Wurzelbacher, has signed a book deal. Joe told Fox News that he was “broke,” but still took time in considering his publishing house because he wanted to spread the wealth around.

“Everyone came at me to write a book. They had dollar signs in their eyes. ‘101 Things Joe the Plumber Knows’ or some stupid s— like that. Excuse me, I am sorry,” he said. “You know I will get behind something solid, but I won’t get behind fluff. I won’t cash in, and when people do read the book they will figure out that I didn’t cash in. At least I hope they figure that out.”

The book, called “Joe the Plumber — Fighting for the American Dream,” is to be released by a group called PearlGate Publishing and other small publishing houses.

“I am not going to a conglomerate that way we actually can get the economy jump started. Like there is five publishing companies in Michigan. There’s a couple down in Texas. They are small ones that can handle like 10 or 15,000 copies. I can go to a big one that could handle a million or two. But they don’t need the help. They are already rich. So that’s spreading the wealth to me,” he said.

CJR has reported several new details on the book today. Titled “Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream,” it’s slated to be released on December 1st of this year and will be co-written with a novelist named Thomas Tabback.

He must have tested that line out with the bimbos at his local swillery.

I think someone’s styling themselves, as a replacement for Rush.

Although, he must be getting support from some wingnut factory or other. A tool like Joe is excellent for r/a/t/f/u/c/k/i/n/g other potential republican candidates for ‘12.

I actually like Laura Bush. I think she’s adorable and just, in general, very nice. You just know she’s not the homophobic, bloodthirsty, anti-choice tyrant her husband is.

  42. green says:

I actually like Laura Bush as well. I am guessing that she is thinking hard on how to divorce her piece of $hit husband and move on with her life. Let’s give it a couple of years. Perhaps she will stop feeling sorry for him and realize him for the loser he is. She seems sensible and gentle – and she knows she chose an a$$hole. Live and learn…

The Obama’s could have a shaman smudge the White House with white sage. That usually clears the air.

Laura Bush earned my respect when she spoke in defense of Michelle Obama and I don’t understand why people are trashing her. Trash her husband, George W. Bush. He is the one responsible for breaking our country.

  52. pikaomega says:

I have to agree, Laura Bush seems like a decent person. She earned some points with me when she actually defended Michelle during the campaign, and she has been a visible presence on women’s issues overseas.

She reinforces my belief that in a schizophrenic sorta way, W. is an OK guy-husband and father-and that if you met him (before the war crimes and genocide, of course) without knowing who he was, you’d probably like him. How one person can exist as a loving, friendly person while bombing, pillaging and abetting rapists and looters that are stuffing their pockets with anything that’s not nailed down is beyond me. I just wonder if there are ever moments that W. the hubby/dad ever meets with W. the sociopath…is there ever a moment of recognition or self-disgust?

It’s also worth pointing out that whenever Michelle Obama has spoken of Laura Bush, it’s always been with respect and praise. These two women have no complaint with each other, and neither should we trash either one of them.

Yeah, let’s be respectful of this woman who stood by as her husband destroyed our country and killed uncounted numbers of people in the middle east, etc…..I could go on but she is not a pet. She is an adult. She married a monster and stands by him. She lets him define her.

She has allowed and funded her daughters to be people who drink and party recklessly and with no consequenses for their behavior.

  63. Fred says:

She has obviously done many brave and powerful things. From her biography at whithouse.gov she toots her own horn on issues she has’t been very brave or powerful about:

    Laura bush biography @ whitehouse.gov

Laura Bush is actively involved in issues of national and global concern, with a particular emphasis on education, health care, and human rights.

If she is going to take credit for her role in these issues shouldn’t she be taken to task for using it as lip service just as the rest of the republicans do on the same issues.

I mean seriously, if she has been activly involved I haven’t seen much of it and no results of her involvement…

yeah, her mom died of breast cancer but she had good health care…..has laura made sure American women at large have the kind of care her mother had? I say no.

I’m sorry, I can’t bring myself to be benevolent to this woman. She is just a quiet sara palen……she alludes to all kinds of lofty ideals but that’s where it has ended.

i think this thread is taking an unnecessary and petty potshot at her…

    that’s all.

i fully expect that she will be separating herself from her criminal husband soon, and will cheer her on when she does…

she’ll need it – going against the bush regime will take plenty of nerve…

  68. Fred says:

    katy Says:
just pointing out something she DID do very recently, that was very admirable…

Words are cheap……what has she actually done, that’s the point. She was in a position to actually help with some of the things she professes to care about and really did nothing.

You go ahead and forgive her if you want, I not so inclined.

as far as her leaving bush, I don’t think that will be allowed to happen. Too embarrassing to the bush empire as a whole. She may not live with him but she won’t be allowed to divorce him.

  69. Bozo The Neoclown says:

How did you enjoy the olympics, laura? have you been pressuring your family to talk to the saudi royal family so at least women are allowed to drive there?
so much for the human rights issue.

Have you seen what no child left behind has done to our public school system, laura? no comment there either…

i must agree with fred, this “lady” is nothing more than an empty can.

It turns out that one of the things that Laura was interested in was the life and legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt. “If it weren’t for women like Mrs. Roosevelt, I would not have been able to become the First Lady that I am,” said the wife of America’s most outrageous President.

Bilbo, I just don’t know. The only thing I can think of is that at least she didn’t start a war against Americans while being crippled by the very thing she was fighting herself.

The war on drugs started by a drug addict is a good example of the things republican first ladies get credit for.

Thank god larua didn’t feel ambitious enough to do something like that to us.

Of course, it was a totally stupid thing for Laura Bush to show Mrs. Obama the place her family will be living for the next few years. Mere details! ;)

More likely, being a gracious person, Michelle Obama probably thought about how Laura Bush was from a different generation when it was much less common for women, especially higher income women, to have careers outside the home. Mrs. Obama has shown no signs of the nastiness that you attribute to her.

  80. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Laura may have been over self-medicating for the last eight years

  81. SwedishSkinJer says:

Let’s not bash Laura Bush. She was a decent First Lady who happens to have an indecent president for a husband. It was gracious of her to extend such an invitation to the Obama family with George, as gleeful as we are over the idea of the current First Family leaving the White House.

Progressive majorities result in a more manageable America.
