Obama and McCain to meet on Monday.

Obama and McCain to meet on Monday.

John McCain will meet with Barack Obama on Monday in Chicago. A statement from Obama’s transition office explains: “It’s well known that they share an important belief that Americans want and deserve a more effective and efficient government, and will discuss ways to work together to make that a reality. They will be joined in the meeting by Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Rahm Emanuel.” Jake Tapper reports, “Graham and Emanuel worked well together on negotiating the presidential debates.”

Update "Graham said that McCain and Obama are philosophically alike on budget reform, Social Security changes, earmark reform and immigration.

'If the administration wants to move forward with immigration again, I stand ready to do that,' Graham said."

Joe Lieberman would be joining McNumbNuts and Graham-cracker as well but he will be too busy begging to keep his chairmanship job and seniority in D.C.

Good on Obama for “reaching across the aisle” to these two morons, though.

… and who’s that with her face against the window, clawing to get in?

Now that’s going to be an interesting meeting. Especially since McCain is back on the campaign trail trashing Obama. I would love to be a fly on the wall for that meeting.

Also, what’s up with Lindsey Graham attending? Is McCain too scared to meet with Obama on his old so he has to bring Graham for reinforcement?

Oh how sweet! They share a belief! McCain doesn’t have any idea of how to make government more effective and efficient. If he did, he wouldn’t be a Republican.

Its probably a smart of Obama and his team to promote this bipartisan meme for the moment but once he’s in office and the work starts in earnest, he better not hang his hat on GOP cooperation and sacrifice everything on the altar of bipartisanship.

The GOP would be smart to help Obama and thus score points with the public for re-election. But they are a dimwitted bunch and all I’ve heard from them so far is both passive- aggressive rhetoric (Obama mustn’t go too far, play it center-right) and outright declarations of aggressive opposition if he doesn’t take his cue from them.

Anyone think that McCranky will have a pained look of embarrassment on his face?

I dunno about that. I’d say drowning it in a bathtub is both effective AND efficient, wouldn’t you?

Rachel Maddow Makes the Case for Why Lieberman Should Not Keep His Committee Chair
    By Heather Friday Nov 14, 2008 6:45am

Rachel makes a very strong case for why Joe Lieberman should not remain the Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs and why the damage he could do and already has done in that position far outweighs the slim hope he might vote with the Democrats when really needed.

Responding to Evan Bayh’s promise that they’ll take the chairmanship away from him if he tries to pull any investigative shenanigans on Obama, Maddow notes adroitly:

Are you really going to wait until he starts his first off-base witch-hunting investigation of Obama into whether he’s a Marxist or a traitor or whatever, and then you’re going to take away his gavel. [Laughs] I’m sure that’s going to go over great.

… Listen, Democrats, you have lost Lieberman anyway. If you boot Lieberman out of his chairmanship, I know you probably won’t get your 60 votes. But you do get a guy who politicized national security and homeland security in a disgusting fashion during this election, you do get him out of one of the most important security jobs in the government.

Tom, I think the word you need to use in that sentence is blackmailing, not begging!

All the Republican Senators who will be up for reelection in 2010 had better think twice before jumping in to filibuster or otherwise muck up the changes that need to be made to save this country. Same goes for all of the Republicans in Congress except for the few that are in the very red states.
