Obama delivers first Democratic video address.

Yesterday, President-elect Barack Obama recorded the “Democratic Radio Address” using video as well as audio. The New York Times notes, “It may seem like a political no-brainer in the age of YouTube, but as aides to Mr. Obama pointed out, it is a first for a president or president-elect.” In the message, Obama urges Congress to “pass at least a down-payment on a rescue plan that will create jobs, relieve the squeeze on families, and help get the economy growing again.” Watch it:

HOw about taking 75 Billion of the bailout money, and turning to the auto industry and tell them, the money is here IF AND ONLY IF you spend it directly on Hybrids (25%) and the production of electric vehicles (75%).

How about taking another 250 Billion and turning to the Alternative RENEWABLE low impact fuel technology (NOT NUCLEAR) and tell them that here it is, get out the plans and make the jobs, and you will receive Grants, loans, taxbreaks based upon the number and type of jobs you create.
The money should NOT be spent on shoring up the failed banking insitutions of yesteryear, they should be spent on creating the NEW financial engines of tomorrow.

I think any money that the Auto Industry receives from We The People aught to be under the exact same conditions that they have previously set when loaning money to us:

10% down and 25% interest rates for poor credit.

Nothing new here, no change. This is looking just like GW’s first term more and more. I see the Dems have “cleaned” all of their sites. Universal health care….forget it. Tax cuts for 95% or payers…..forget it. End of the war….forget it. WATCH MY FELLOW SNOWFLAKES!

I wonder what this fool is smoking? The change Barack will bring amounts to a repudiation of all the horrific mistakes Dubya made. To affect that he needs people with intelligence and experience to make it happen. Would you prefer that rather than tap into experience in Washington he relies on a bunch of miscreants like Caribou Barbie? I”ll take experienced people from the Clinton administration (remember the world at ease in those days, and no 10 trillion dollar national debt) any day.

What is more substantial than showing up to work two months early, and getting to work?

Bill Clinton did wonders for this country. It would be foolish not to hire some of those same people just because they served already (albeit 8 loooong years ago).

Fred Says: If you’re going to reform education then you have to get rid of the sports……they are largly responsible for the decline in educational quality in our schools.

I personally think the problem has been that Republicans have been in leadership for 20 of the last 28 years and that they simply do not value education, hence, our culture has stopped valuing it.

Parents must instill in their kids, prior to them becoming old enough to attend school, an appreciation for learning. Most do not – hence the “pageant parents” and “my-kid-is-gonna-be-a-football-icon parents”.

I had to dole out consequences to 8 students in one of my Introduction classes who plagiarized their reaearch papers. One of them asked me “Why does it matter?” She truly did not get why it was wrong to steal someone else’s work and pass it off for her own rather than actually bother to learn something.

And if I say the word “read” it’s the equivalent of “go set yourself on fire” to most of the freshman I teach.

If we look at Japan where 95% of their students graduate high school, versus 68% here, we see that it comes down to a correlation between how much our different societies value education.

The only time he did so was right after 9/11 when the world watched him with the bull horn — since then, he’s gone downhill until he finds himself today at the bottom of the list. Hubris, stubbornness and arrogant ignorance are his hallmarks.
A total failure; a tainted legacy; troubles and woes for America that will visit us for decades to come; a buffoon, an oaf, an uncurious boor, an embarrassment — and did I say failure?
The trolls are trying to make themselves relevant – but all they have is Ronnie Raygun’s failed trickle down economics (they never mention his illegal, felonious Iran/Contra affair). I laugh at them and their predictions of Obama’s administration — fools that they are, unable to see honesty when it stares them in the face.
Milton Friedman’s trickle down economy which has been embraced by repugs is a failure – it has failed wherever it has been tried – and we are in the midst of it ourselves.

This has been very hard for me to swallow over the years. When I graduated from a California high school, I did so with a very thorough grounding in many subjects, and I could have chosen to attend a high-quality state college or university for minimal cost. My kids are in their early 20s, and throughout their teen years I was appalled at how little they actually needed to learn in school in order to graduate — not to mention the complete lack of PE and the increasing degradation of arts classes. And universities are no longer a priority for government, even here in Oregon. Prisons? Oh, sure, lots of money for that.

And the University of Oregon is going to be spending $200M on a new sports arena, while incoming freshmen have no dorms to move into.

After years of teachers being blamed for everything, too many of them have simply stopped bothering to fight students to learn anything. It’s why I left high school to teach college. Everything was my fault, and I got tired of spoiled brats pitching temper tantrums to get handed good grades in order to calm them down. Administrative acquiescence to them and their “not my kid” parents ruined the opportunity to teach, so that my job was essentially little more than babysitting. And I was at a Charter School. Who wants that job? Not quality teachers – which is why their attrition is one of the highest of all careers.

And let’s not even discuss the crappy pay for teachers (while Administrators get paid very well however).

NCLB standardized testing hasn’t helped either as most teachers who have to give test tied to funding must teach to these pointless tests rather than educate their students.

Like FDR? Like JFK? many? Although Clinton signed on to a couple of moderate ideas like nafta and welfare reform, he mostly led us in the direction that progressives want to go.

more & better jobs, balanced budget, strengthened unions, stronger middle class, etc.

    I don’t get your point.

Thanks for bringing this bit of government into the 21st century.

Some jackass too cheap to pay their taxes. They are easily identified by their field markings and unique behaviors. Look for white males holed up in compounds raving about their government given right to guns but simultaneously damning said governement and announcing that they will not be taken alive. It is sad yet amusing to view them in the wild.

Funny… this one wants to come here and sneer at us for being so interested in “who occupies the Oval Office’… yet, correct me if I’m wrong… the vast majority of this windbag’s comments are shallow attemtpts at finding fault… w/ Obama… which would prove Lushy’s, well, kinda obsessed w/ who’s in the Oval Office…

I’m not sure there is such a thing – a true libertarian – dbadass… just the fact that the person proclaiming themselves to be such usually has some NEED to label themselves as such, kinda defeats the whole point, no?

Right now, the vast majority of so-called “libertarians” just seem to be GOOPers who’ve tossed their armbands in the nearest trash can and hope no one recognizes them from Party photos.

Frankly, I’M prolly more of a real libertarian than most of the ones who come here making that claim, and I refuse to take on any label, anymore, period.

Considering the fact that pretty much anyone in Washington with any experience has either been involved in the Clinton Administration or both Bush administrations. Never before in our history has a president taken office with so many urgent problems that need fixing. And the only way that Obama can hit the ground running is if he hires experienced people. Since he is not going to hire people from Bush Administrations, that pretty much leaves the Clinton Administration. Would you rather he start out with a bunch of newbies who know nothing about how government works?

I really do think you should wait until you see what Obama does with the people he is hiring before you criticize him. I, for one, am going to give him my full support until he does something to deserve criticism.

sacopenapa – you constant harping on Obama and the things you think or perceive he is going to do, not what he has actually done, is taking you perilously close to troll status. Why don’t you give Obama a chance to prove himself before you criticize him?

My GOD you are ignorant. Even by Limborg standards you are galactic level stupid. You have no idea about any facet of my life. You cant tell the future you cant read minds you are just ignorant and like to spout off because you are PROUD Of your ignorance and love to parade it around. You dont have any idea how much I love life. Adult education, look into it. I suggest you START with about a third grade level course in logic. Then maybe someday if you ever aquire the equipment that allows you some shot at higher brain function a jr high rhetoric and debate class so that you can at least RECOGNIZE a cogent argument, at least KNOW what one is. As of now the only thing you do here is humiliate yourself, you are just too stupid to know it.

We all know the world leaders laughed at both Bush and US for electing him as soon as he left any room. Now if we could just find a reasonably intelligent conservative to post here with something other than warmed over Limborg talking points who could make a decent point at least once in a while.

  108. Game of Life says:

Will repugs leave the 19th century?

The trolls’ logic is escaping them again. They can’t wait to bounce on President Obama but let their chimpy get away with murder, literally.

Number One trolls, the people that were in the Clinton administration worked well together. They are dems, so why wouldn’t President Obama choose them? Also the look of an administration has nothing to do with the its outcomes. It begins at the top, you trolls seem to denied.

Number Two trolls, you can’t bring yourself to realize that your type of repug mentality in dead at the booth and on the blogs. Losers.

This is just like the repug stupid talking point that Sen. Obama voted over 90% with the dems, like that was supposed to offset that mcchimpy voted over 90% with the repugs. Where is the logic? In case you trolls missed it, voting with chimpy is detrimental to the world while voting for the dems isn’t.

Is this to hard a concept to understand, trolls?

As Frank Rich Noted in his July 27 Column:

What was most striking about the Obama speech in Berlin was not anything he said so much as the alternative reality it fostered: many American children have never before seen huge crowds turn out abroad to wave American flags instead of burn them.

During World War II, the American Auto Industry STOPPED producing Automobiles (try buying a 1944 Chevy or Ford) , turnede on a dime, and began producing MILITARY Equipment for the War Effort.

Instead of Bailing out Detroit, the Govt. should offer Lucrative Contracts for Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles such as…

    Municipal and School Buses

    Garbage Trucks

    Postal Service Vehicles

    Govt. Agency Vehicles

Let the Auto Companies Retool…and let the Green Technology spill over onto the rest of the Economy.

  118. SwedishSkinJer says:

Obama is clear, calm, specific, and incredibly charismatic. However, the racist rats and their disgusting ways of self-expression will test us without pause. As progressive, we must unleash a resounding “No!” to their tactics and build a clear majority that will deny the GOP victories in 2010.

  119. follow the money says:

    how does this sound…
    we, as in America,
need to get, the economy moving, like steel factories, going and more products which are stamped, “made in the USA”, again, and also, while creating jobs, familys will need healthcare, so we need the healthcare industrys help, and also insurance companys, and you can also add on labor unions, we need everybody’s help, for our economy to grow, worldwide. If we could stop the Iraq war, which is calculated as 10 billion dollars a month, perhaps we just may be able to accomplish some of these things that I said above, what do you think? does “Made in the USA” sound familiar?
Maybe with 10 billion dollars a month, we could build this country back up?
