Zell Miller campaigns for Chambliss, warns of ‘a far-left liberal agenda’ in Congress.

In 2004, then-Democratic Sen. Zell Miller (GA) threw his support behind President Bush with an over-the-top speech attacking Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) at the Republican National Convention. Earlier this week, Miller continued his assault on liberalism while campaigning for Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA). “Saxby could well be the last man standing between a far-left liberal agenda sailing through the United States Senate,” said Miller. The National Republican Senatorial Committee released a web-only ad yesterday featuring Miller’s comments. Watch it:

Though Miller is now stoking fears of a filibuster-proof Democratic majority in the Senate, the Atlanta Constitution Journal notes that “as a senator, when Republicans controlled the chamber, Miller declared reliance on a 60-member cloture vote in the Senate, needed to shut off debate, to be undemocratic.”

Good ol’ zell, watch him run and squirm.

  2. Another Joe says:

But remember – they can only get away with the sheer hypocrisy of their “double speak” because of they know their assets in the maintream media will dutifully “catapult the propaganda.”

We can find many examples of these types of lies each day and we should blog about them.

But at some point, we need to remember that when surrounded by alligators, it is time to remember that the real job is to drain the swanp.

Imsgine wirled peas – it can happen but it will take peaceful, organized action.

  3. konchster says:

It all depends on whose ox is being gored. Rove crowed about a permeant majority and Miller cheered him on. Along comes Bush and proves that republicans can win elections it’s the governing part they have a problem with. Bush has ushered in the halcyon days of liberalism reborn. It will be a bit but soon liberalism won’t be a bad word in the near future

Zell’s probably why the senate dems are so flummoxed by Leiberman’s apostasy. They fear another “former dem” joining Zell on the dem-bashing platform, saying bad things about them. Because it’s a high-school popularity contest, after all.

  5. Curlew says:

Throw Zell some chitlins and fat-back and let him go off to his hole to brood.

As repellent as Joe might be, the only positive thing I can say about him is that he’s not a complete batshit lunatic like Zell.

Bring back Sam Nunn. Far from being progressive, he is at least an honourable man. And one who’s worked for the past two decades to eliminate the threat of nuclear warfare and foster a climate of peace and tolerance. Compare to Saxby “Arrest Every Muslim That Crosses The State Line” Chickenhawk Chambliss.

Can anyone tell me what a “far-left liberal agenda” looks like?
I don’t recall anyone proposing hemp underpants for all, or Tree-hugging Day, or replacing the Thanksgiving Turkey with Tofu or anything like that.

  13. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

I think Chambliss is going to win this, simply because Georgians love their GOP. They agree with the GOP that working people should be punished by raising their taxes so they can be lowered on the rich, there should be no government money for education, infrastructure, etc.. The only thing the government should do is bomb countries indiscriminately, make sure gay people can’t get married, and “protect” unborn children (but once they’re born, no protection at all. That’s socialism!).

These are the values of Georgia.

  14. DutchHenry says:

Only event needed to conclude the script is for Joe Lieberman to show up for Chambliss.

Ban nuclear power. Not going to happen.

  26. osage says:

The faith perverted moral deviants and hated based racist reversionists that comprise today’s Republican Party are full of false promises and mendacious revisionist history. They haven’t delivered on ANYTHING during the Bush administration, and have in fact damaged our economy, our working class, our military readiness, our international influence and the future lives of all Americans far beyond every worst case scenario that Democrats could have imagined. The shear audacity of radical Republican extremists preaching that Democrats can’t govern sucessfully is the conquest of fantasy over fact and failure over performance. The Zell Millers of the world would have us believe that the Republican ideologies that have failed so disastrously over the last eight years are the cure for the cancer they caused. That isn’t just bad politics, it’s suicidal government. Not only do the nutjob Republicans think that putting lipstick on a pig will fool uniformed voters, they also believe that they can make them believe that pigs can fly.

  27. galmud says:

With “Democrats” like Miller theres no need for Republicans

Unfortunately, it seems that the more sclerotic they become, the LONGER they hang on: witness Ted Stevens, or Billy Graham, or Strom Thurmond.

I hope to live long enough to piss on all their graves…

  30. Wayne says:

Zell Miller and Lieberman, both should just join the Republican party and see where that gets them.

Oh, wait, Miller already lost his seat and was basically shunned by the Republinuts he was carrying water for….

Good road for Lieberman to follow.

Dump Lieberman out of the Democratic Party.

  31. curmudgeon says:

Well then, Zell, tell Sen Tom Coburn that a single Senator holding up votes on popular legislation by placing “anonymous holds” on bills is “undemocratic”.

I really feel for you. It must hurt to have lost so badly and to see your beloved party disintegrating before your eyes. But, I have a suggestion…seek counseling now otherwise the next 8 years are going to be hell on you.

  40. kasinca says:

It amazes me to hear this argument after they allowed the repugs have the majority in all branches of government and every swing richard in the GOP marched in lock step to the dumbest man to ever darken the doors of the White House. Who the hell is Zell Miller anyway. There use to be a moron who supposedly was a democrat but spoke at the 2004 republican convention. He is a non-entity and a moron who was wrong then and he would be wrong now!

  48. Marie says:

It’s a pretty pathetic scene when the repugs need the likes of Zell Miller to plead their case to the populace.
The extremes of either party are doomed, as the nation is definitely more center. I think this election saw that even those who think they are center-right, lost to the center-left. I think Americans a increasingly fed up with the extreme social views of the religious right who have dominated Miller’s party, as well as the extremely conservative wing. People recognize that problems are not resolved by extreme views — because problems are more complicated, more complex than the rightwing sloganeers would have us believe.
So, Zell, you go right ahead and pander to the extremists like yourself — you may win the state of Georgia, but you and your ilk will not win America.

  51. AverageTodd says:

Ban the ACLU? Is that what someone in the audience yells at the 30 second mark of this video. I think some of these Republicans are afraid of a “radical Obama agenda” because they know that, if they had the chance, they would make all kinds of radical reforms. Ban the ACLU, though? Ban them? Is that the message now?

  52. EugeneDebs says:

    Marie Says:

I think you are right. One of the worth things Raygun did to the country was convince Americans that complex problems had simple answers. Hopefully Americans have grown out of that particular delusions. The GOP meanwhile became addicted to ONLY talking in bumpersticker soundbites and actually tried to govern that way. Thank GOD the adults are back in power now

  55. Mugsy says:

I can’t fathom a better example of how clueless Republicans are then for Chamblis to think having Zell Miller endorse him will result in any Democrats thinking:

Hey, a Democrat is endorsing Saxby! Maybe I should consider supporting him too?

I haven’t seen a Republican THIS clueless since McCain thought the Lieberman endorsement would do the same thing.

  56. trippin says:

This is what happens when traitorous behavior goes unpunished. This guy should have been forcibly ejected from the Democratic Party long ago. Unfortunately, co-conspiratorial enabler “I’m not a fool but I play one on TV” Harry Reid has no chance of learning from history as he struggles to give Lieberman a pass without exploding the Democratic caucus.

That’s what the party needs: an explosion — a bare-knuckles knock-down drag out fight for the heart and soul of the party. Failure to exorcise the rot, from Reid and Pelosi on down, will effectively cede control to the chicken-snot faction who call them “leaders,” those who wipe their collective ass with the Constitution, who fail to prosecute a felonious Executive, endorse spying without warrant, give telcos immunity for illegal wiretapping, pat themselves on the back for yet another lopsided job-sucking trade deal with Peru, provide welfare for the CEO while kicking the workng poor in the teeth, and maintain the status quo in Iraq.

Does it sound like Obama is part of that crowd? He will be, unless we stand up now. The time is NOW to fight these bastards to the political death if necessary. Compromise my left foot. We put you there: you WILL represent us, or perish next election.

  57. EugeneDebs says:

  59. republicanSScareme says:

Not many people know this, but Zell Miller was the inspiration for the “Festus Jaundice” character in the book and film, Deliverance. You’ll remember Zell as the old coot with no teeth carrying a shotgun (he and his cousin “Goose” were out looking for women).
