McConnell bids farewell to ousted GOP senators…except Ted Stevens.

This evening, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took to the Senate floor and paid tribute to Republican senators who lost their re-election bids. While McConnell had plenty of nice words for Gordon Smith, Elizabeth Dole, John Sununu, he never mentioned Ted Stevens, who lost his bid in a tight race after being convicted on seven felony charges. McConnell’s office insisted that “the oversight was nothing personal and pointed out McConnell did not give a farewell speech for retiring Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska either.” Stevens is the longest-serving Republican senator in history, in office for almost 40 years.

  2. SP Biloxi says:

Interesting Uncle Ted’s name is mud among many of the GOP senators. Threw Uncle Ted under the bus. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

  3. spencers mom says:

Leave it to the classless GOPers to fail to even acknowledge their longest serving Senator. Yes, he is leaving in shame, but Bush would’ve given the guy a medal!

Not being one of them, I say don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Felon!

    PEACE

Unfortunately thanks to the turn out of Rush Limbaugh dittoheads in the Bluegrass State, Mitch couldn’t say goodbye to himself.

  6. jb says:

Gordon Smith can now come back to Oregon and concentrate on dumping his pollution into the Umatilla River.

“Today we say farewell to our fellow Republicans who didn’t get caught do anything but lost anyway despite 6 glorious years of absolute Republican power. As you leave today, with your indexed lifetime pensions and health care I like to think that we aren’t losing sons and daughters, but rather gaining future lobbyists and propagandists.”

It’s impossible to overestimate GOP amnesia. Most of them have already forgotten the Bush II Presidency, and who can blame them?

  11. sectionop92 says:

It’s only a matter of time before Mitch does something to either A. get in seriously hot water or B. finds the inside of a federal prison cell.

In this matter, I do have faith!

Chuck Hagel is a member of congress who won election through a a voting-machine snafu by a company called ES&S…
Chuck Hagel was running ES&S at the time.

It’s full of ignorant morons who think Mitch will protect them from teh gay, pot smokers, and muslims. Plus this state has a huge population of extremely old people who haven’t had the good decency to die already, and they vote.

  19. Mr. Evil says:

McConnell is just another typical republican. He thinks the way to right a sinking ship is to make a bigger hole on the other side so that the incoming water will run out faster.

  20. shoeless says:

Gordon Smith, Elizabeth Dole, and John Sununu are the lucky ones. Perhaps history will not connect them with Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

  21. shoeless says:

I mean Ted Stevens is the lucky one. Those three are tainted.

  22. Another Joe says:

Yes, he is leaving in shame, but Bush would’ve given the guy a medal!

Probably leaves the guy a pardon too.

  23. LoraS says:

I would normally like to say that Ted Stevens got what he deserved. However, in reality McConnell is hardly any better.

  24. Another Joe says:

    MUST SEE VIDEO

The entire world body of leaders at G20 REFUSES to shake dur chimpfurher’s hand (paw?) – not even that slimeball angela merkel that chimpy tried to give a backrub too a few years ago.

Seven felony convictions and still a tight race.

    That’s pretty sad.
