New ethics complaint filed against Palin.

palin1.jpgA resident of Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) hometown of Wasilla filed a new ethics complaint against the governor, arguing that her recent media blitz broke state ethics rules because portions of the interviews took place in the governor’s office. The Anchorage Daily News reports:

Jane Henning, a North Slope worker from Wasilla, said he filed the complaint with the attorney general. He says Palin is promoting her future political career on state property, pointing in particular to the governor’s Nov. 10 interview with Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren. [...]

“The governor is using her official position and office in an attempt to repair her damaged political image on the national scene,” Henning wrote.

The state executive branch ethics rules say officials can’t use state resources to help or hurt a political candidate. Or a potential candidate.

Update The Alaska Politics Blog has a copy of the ethics complaint.

    – - He? So maybe Sarah is really the First Dude.

Whadda wild frontier. Sarah Palin, Premier and First Dude of Alaskastan.

I am sure that a self-appointed review board will clear her of any wrong doing.

This woman is truly the epitome of brash political corruption…

    LOL
It would be a hoot to see Greta in the witness box.
She could ana!yze her own testimony afterwards.

  5. shoeless says:

When informed of the complaint, Gov. Palin replied, “Ethics? What part of ‘Alaska Republican’ don’t you understand?”

  6. Zimzone says:

Alaskatan, heh…can you see it from Canada?

Palin’s future political career erodes every time she opens her mouth; which is far too often.

Now that Stevens has lost his Senate race to another Mayor from Alaskastan, let’s see if we can’t keep those Russian Republics isolated up on the Tundra.

  7. Nevar says:

Bridge to nowhere, road to nowhere, pipeline to nowhere, political career to nowhere, where will it ever end?

  8. moondancer says:

Sarah Palin: “All the Kings Men” meets “A face in the Crowd”. This might settle the ‘life imitates art’ question.

  9. Badmoodman says:

Does Palin even get the joke?….

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry is reportedly courting the former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate for a cameo appearance on the fifth season finale of the ABC dramedy, airing in May.

Marc is “very hot to trot to have her appear on the season-five finale,” an inside source revealed to the New York Post on Thursday.

“Marc is highly enamored of Sarah and sees her as the ultimate guest star [playing] a similar version of herself. The idea has gone over surprisingly well with execs at Disney, who see it as a blockbuster based on Sarah’s huge ratings on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ “

This Barbie Girl really is clueless — and there is no excuse for it.

Who will be the first to leap to her defense? Limbaugh? Lowry? Hannity?

  12. unbelievable says:

Does this mean that with Ted Stevens’s seat going to a Democrat, her re-election as Govenor questionable, and Mitt Romney’s pledge to eat her alive in the 2012 primaries mean that she’s finally going to go away? That would be justice.

Welcome to the big leagues, Governor Palin.

And one might think that with Senator Stevens losing his reelection bid, that God keeps closing doors on Sarah. No mind, she can always use an assault weapon to blast a hole in those closed doors, don’cha know.

  16. sbobker says:

And where exactly is the flipping money coming from for the all Sarah, all the time tour.

And who “owns” the clothes she wears. Are they the “lost” or “returned” clothes. Exactly how do you replace used underwear. Sell it on eBay?

I spent 10 days in Alaska several years ago, and I kept unconsciously saying on accident “Back in America” because Alaska felt so different than anywhere I’d been in the lower 48 that I kept forgetting I was still in America. Because of their lack of diversity and wilderness, it truly felt like I was somewhere foreign.

For them to have rejected a Republican was huge. It’s a very white Conservative place. Perhaps there is hope for this country yet.

  19. Annie B. says:

Governor Palin seems to be cited for practically everything these days–they’ll probably file a new complaint against her tomorrow and tomorrow…
It’s overkill. She is no longer a contender for national office so let her govern her state already!

  20. Nevar says:

Sorry, Annie B., we’re going to hound Palin back into the oblivion she crawled out of.
    ;)

  21. tarazan says:

I’m going ti invent a new term for her

    CWAC means : Celebrity Without A Cause…

  22. Zooey says:

Basic: If you’re going to play the game, you need to know the rules.

If you’re a halfway decent Republican (ugh), then you at least put up a good front of pretending to go along with the rules.

Palin can’t manage any of it.

  23. pablito says:

burn, baby, burn. all this stuff is more fuel for the fire. i cannot wait to watch palin go down in flames… ideally, in 2012, when her failed presidential bid shuts and SEALS the door on republicans in the white house for the remainder of my and my children’s lifetimes.

  24. A Patriot Acting says:

    Annie B. Says:
“…let her govern her state already!”

Who’s stopping her Annie? Maybe if she didn’t decide to talk to the media on a daily basis AFTER losing so badly and spent some more time at the Governor’s desk she could get something done for her citizens besides socialistic windfall profits taxes for Alaskan citizens and uncountable hours spent trying to get a police officer fired for personal reasons. But apparently Alaska has been doing fine without her for the last several months so who really needs her? Not the Republican Party, not the people of Alaska and most definitely not the rest of America who sees her as the incompetent laughing stock that she has made herself to be!

  25. Nevar says:

  26. Leftside Annie says:

QVC, people, I’m telling you – this woman has a friggin’ CAREER!!!!!

  27. tarazan says:

Palin looked better on SNL ‘Saturday Night live’ than having political interviews cooking in her kitchen with Greta and others.
May be she should change her career.!

  28. DNFP says:

I do admit she’s made watching King of the Hill more interesting – she’s Peggy Hill incarnate.

And grandpa Cotton, a veteran with a trophy wife, is John McCain to a ‘T’.

    Life definitely imitates art.

  29. fletc3her says:

This kind of complaint won’t go anywhere. Doing a media interview is an appropriate action for a governor and at the moment that is all Sarah Palin is. Prosecuting someone on the basis that they might run for a higher office someday is nonsensical. I am glad to see the people of Alaska paying her higher scrutiny.

  30. Badmoodman says:

DNFP Says: I do admit she’s made watching King of the Hill more interesting – she’s Peggy Hill incarnate.

    – - Peggy Hill has far more sense than Palin and is also a Bobble champion.

  32. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

What I want to know is when is someone going to start investigating how Todd and a couple of friends built that huge house on the lake in two weeks. I think that will be the scandal that brings down the House of Palin.

  33. unbelievable says:

“Joe” the “Plumber” says Sarah Palin is being thrown under the bus by the McCain campaign.

Oh, and by the way, he’s running for Congress in 2012…

  34. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

Ryan, his name is Zane not Jane. Please correct this.

  35. Curlew says:

#18. If you spend enough time in “the Great Land” eventually you’ll hear people talking about taking a trip “down to America”(Seattle or further) to go shopping for a couple days. The Nome Nugget (newwpaper) once carried an Alaska Airlines advertisement to “Come down to America this weekend” for $890 roundtrip. The trip was Nome to Seattle. And to top it off many people refer to Seattle as “the real capital” of Alaska. So don’t be surprised by what you saw or thought.

  36. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    sbobker Says:
And where exactly is the flipping money coming from for the all Sarah, all the time tour.

The taxpayers of Alaska paid for her trip to the Governor’s conference.

I don’t think that Barbie Palin is going to be able to get away with charging the taxpayers of Alaska for things like staying at home and four star hotels for her children any longer. The Alaskan legislature has already stated that they are going to look into and curb her practice of charging the taxpayer for her comfort needs. I also suspect that they are keeping an eye on her travel and who is paying for it.

  37. shoeless says:

Annie B., why are you in favor of corruption?

  38. misshusseinmolly says:

This is one of those petty things that tend to bring out the double-standards. We have to ask ourselves if we would be just as outraged if it was a Democratic governor doing interviews to promote their political profile from the governor’s office.

I remember when Al Gore had gotten into some trouble for making some campaign fund-raising phone calls from the VPs office (it was said that if he had just leaned out the window, he would have technically been “outside the office” and that would have been OK).

My general feeling is this. Al Gore should not have been making campaign fund-raising calls from the Vice Presidential office. Sarah Palin should not have been getting interviewed in the Governor’s office. But neither infraction disrupts life as we know it, and both would have best been handled with some kind of formal cease-and-desist order. A lawsuit is overkill in this situation. Save that sort of thing for more serious matters, like abuse of power.

  39. ElBruce says:

How does this law define who is a potential candidate, and for what? I don’t see how you can adjudicate that.

I would think that it should be fair for an elected official to grant a TV interview from their office.

  40. continuum says:

The neocon Republicans crucified Al Gore because they said he used a telephone in the VP offices to make political calls.

Seems that turn-around is fair play.

Palin is using government resources to advance her political career. Why should she get a free ride?

  41. Michael Lafferty says:

@ 17: “Exactly how do you replace used underwear. Sell it on eBay?

Ooh, yuck. But, looking at the matter objectively, I am compelled to note that there are probably at least a million very interested, self-identified Republican males interested in obtaining a pair of her panties.

So, eBay might be just the thing…

  42. Shayne says:

The thought that this woman could be the VP under an ailing, elderly President was about as frightening as it gets. Both Palin and McCain should have worried more about their countries than their own careers and for that they should pay.

  43. MapleStreet says:

Let’s see – I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but isn’t she up to something like an average of an ethics complaint per every 30 days worked ?

  44. Buckie Boy says:

    Aliens have blue teeth…

…do the people of Wasilla know that she used their tax money to build her house on the lake there???

Again…pleeeeaaasssseee make her go away….far, far away.

  45. tombaker says:

Maybe Mrs. Hockeypuck should spend a little time earning her 150k Gov. salary, rather than scanning the horizon for the next banquet to drag her freeloader brood to.

  46. edifice complex says:

Ah, leave her alone, she’s running the only socialist state in the union, while pretending to fear socialism and marxism. It’s quite a trick, considering she couldn’t tell you the difference between them. But the falling oil prices are going to make the new year the first ever where she truly has to make hard choices. I’d just hate to be a minority or needy up there now, there going to catch the blunt end of her budget cuts.

  47. Great Frybread King says:

Doesn’t this woman have a state to run? All I’ve seen her do since she and St. McCain were blown out on Nov. 4 is campaign for 2012 or 2016.

Palin is using government resources to advance her political career. Why should she get a free ride?

Because we are supposed to be nice and excuse the Republicans no matter how nasty they are. They know that most of us will do just that. So, they feel free to be as big a dicks as they like.

  49. CageyCretin says:

Palin was wrongly characterized as being a “cancer”.

She is actually “herpes”: she just won’t go away.

(and as much as many of us would love for her to just go away and not be seen again, the unfortunate reality is that she will not do that. Even IF she is imprisoned for ethics or corruption, she will not go away. We will be seeing and hearing about her for the rest of our lives, unfortunately. She really should consider the porn industry before she gets much older. She’d make a killing off the “moral majority” viewers).

  50. Game of Life says:

Looks like the door of opportunity swings both ways, eh mooseyak?

she should be queen of domestic affairs. Then again why should she learn anything about the other 49 states since she Alaska isn’t part of the US.

  52. EugeneDebs says:

Bimbostien can do whatever she wants until the courts say otherwise. Just ASK her. When will this ignorant woman just GO AWAY.

Annie B. is not in favor of corruption. I am against piling on, nitpicking, ranting and raving about little or nothing, bullying, etc.

I remain a lifelong liberal democrat that appreciates fair and/or just criticism.

Mrs. Palin wanted to play in the big leagues. The spotlight is fading but the big league rules are still there. I am sorry but the devil always gets his due! Even the Rebublicans have to pay up once in a while.
