Yesterday, the struggling Freedom’s Watch released an attack ad against Georgia’s Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Martin, saying that he “failed to look out for Georgia’s families.” “First he actually helped block stiffer penalties for drunk drivers,” warns the voice in the ad, which echoes previous GOP ads. “And then, Martin voted against tougher sentences for domestic abuse.” Watch it:
Martin’s daughter was kidnapped when she was eight years old. In a new ad, he states, “You never forget the horror of coming face-to-face with violent crime. … I never forgot the way she trembled when she faced her kidnapper in court. That’s why I fought so hard to crack down on violent crime.” Watch it:
In fact, Martin’s tough-on-crime record has been praised by people such as former senator Zell Miller, who is now backing Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) in the state’s tough run-off election. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2/21/97]
The Ghost of Lee Atwater is haunting the state of Georgia.
November 22nd, 2008 at 6:46 pmOnce again the strategy of attacking a strength as a weakness heads its ugly rear in the Repignican camp. I wonder how much longer the American public will put up with this horse hockey?
November 22nd, 2008 at 6:48 pmYou're only tough on crime if you're old, wear a party-approved American flag lapel pin and shake a sturdy fist wildly up in the air.
That and you own a gun you only use at the gun range and/or on hunting trips every six years.
November 22nd, 2008 at 7:02 pmhuh...
i was just going to post this story on the other thread...

There is the expression you can't buy enough good publicity.
I don't know how that expression would go for Saxby and all this bad pub he's generating like a Category 5 hurricane.
This is a perfect storm of what exactly is so wrong with the GOP.
November 22nd, 2008 at 7:11 pmFreedom Watch must be icily heartless. To attack someone whose daughter was kidnapped is beyond disgusting. Freedom Watch desereves to be trashed for this hatred.
November 22nd, 2008 at 7:44 pmThis will surely go the way that Libby Dole went with her hate/false ad. You would think these Republicans had learned something from their mistakes but they keep doing the same thing and getting the same results. ( loses )
November 22nd, 2008 at 7:51 pmFreedom's Watch wouldn't know Freedom if it jumped up and ripped its tiny little fear filled head off and took a crap down the throat that leads to its fat GOP belly.
November 22nd, 2008 at 7:56 pmKarl Rove, Lee Atwater style of campaigning still reigns.
November 22nd, 2008 at 8:16 pmDespicable low-lifes.
Isn't Freedom Watch Ari Fleischer's organization?
I believe Ari is a prominent figure, yes.
November 22nd, 2008 at 8:19 pmFor the gop "tough on crime" somehow translates into putting non-violent drug offenders in federal & state prisons, filling them to over capacity, making rotation back to the streets for real, violent offenders inevitable.
November 22nd, 2008 at 9:48 pmDo they seriously believe the crap that spews from their mouths? Scarier, that other people do believe them. What a pile of dog turd these particular Gopigs are. No remorse and no conscience either.
November 22nd, 2008 at 10:17 pmAh, Ari Fleischer's Freedoms Watch drops another stink bomb. I thought the never ending market crash would've tapped their rich donors.
But the Bush I Corporatists courted Libya last week. Maybe Gadhafi's son ponied up the cash for the ad.
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:11 amI've lived and worked in Georgia. I still own a home in Georgia. I know Georgia and the people who live there. Many of them are damn fine and decent folks.
Georgia has made some great progressive strides and because of changing demographics is a more civilized place to live now than it was a generation ago when it looked and sounded just as hicky as today's Alaska. (Not to be too judgmental I will admit that mindless rednecks are entitled to a state of their own, too).
Georgia may have lost it's claim to being the most backward of the 50 states, but it ain't out of the woods yet.
Saxby Chambliss is an amoral, oportunistic turd and if the Georgians know what they're doing, they'll stoke up on Ex-lax and get rid of him.
November 23rd, 2008 at 2:32 amIn winger logic, his daughter being kidnaped proves he's soft on crime.
November 23rd, 2008 at 5:51 amWhy do these evil proliferating groups hide behind noble sounding names for their organization? Misnaming of mal-intentions hides their true nature from many, many Americans.
Examples:
Freedom's Watch
American Enterprise Institute
Heritage Foundation
Project For A New American Century
Family Research Center
Freedom Works
However, my favorite mis-named and misleading title is that of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which is used to keep middle and low income Americans from exercising their constitutional right to vote.
November 23rd, 2008 at 7:14 amThe truly sad thing about this is that the Georgia voters will believe Chambliss - they will re-elect him and destroy Martin the way they destroyed Cleland. Georgia may be more economically progressive than some of the other Deep South states, but the state is inherently backwoods redneck in its thinking.
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:02 ambrought to you by the same people in the state that believed a legless vet missing an arm was unpatriotic. i guess there's no curing the dumb...let's be glad it's contained in georgia for the most part.
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 amChambliss is improving. He didn't accuse Martin of raping his own daughter. I guess that's progress.
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 amFreedom Watch was born as media face of the Bush Administration, ran by former Bushie Ari Flicher. Now lets look at the finaces of this so called Freedom (is what I say it is) Watch. The Repuke PAC popped on the radar AFTER pallets of 100 dollar bills were flown in unaccounted for into Iraq.NO paper trail NO nothing, to keep up the BS of Iraqi Freedom. These morons have no crediblity, when will the MSM look at these fools??
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:21 amNext up, they release an ad saying how he allowed his kid to be kidnapped, and that shows him being soft on kidnappers: (cue scary voice) "He couldn't even protect his own child. Now he expects you to let him protect yours?"
These people are monsters. Don't put it past them.
