Last week on Fox News, Newt Gingrich claimed that “there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us.” Reacting to this hate-mongering, Candace Gingrich criticized her half-brother Newt for “being a hater” and for using “LGBT Americans as political weapons to further your ambitions.” Addressing Newt directly on The Huffington Post, Candace — a lesbian herself and an LGBT rights activist — writes:
The truth is that you’re living in a world that no longer exists. I, along with millions of Americans, clearly see the world the way it as — and we embrace what it can be. You, on the other hand, seem incapable of looking for new ideas or moving beyond what worked in the past. [...]
This is a movement of the people that you most fear. It’s a movement of progress — and your words on FOX News only show how truly desperate you are to maintain control of a world that is changing before your very eyes.
she was being kind by the using the word “hater”. there are so many more descriptive words to use when decribing newtiepie
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:33 amCandace is brave speaking the truth
Newt is a washed up scumbag, he should STFU
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:41 amWith all respect to Ms Gingrich, my first impression was why is a grown up Macauley Culkin or whatever the hell his name a headline face…
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:41 amCandice Gingrich for Republicans 2012!
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:00 amThings seem to be changing…despite the wishfull and malevolent thinking of FORMER congressman Gingrich.
Bob Kutner, of the American Perspective and formerly a voice in the wilderness, was on the panel on ABC with George Stephenopolis…along with Arianna Huffington.
They did a Great (IMHO) job defending Obama and Progressive Ideas. Even David Brooks called Obama the SHREWDEST Politician he knows of.
Obama is Smart, and Knows what he is doing..including surrounding himself with Smart, Non Ideological People.
As Ms. Huffington noted, this is no longer a 50/50 country anymore. Americans are behind Obama 2 to 1.
Gingrich will really have to work to keep from being considered Irrelevant.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:07 amNewt Gingrich is a classic right wing victim. While they are busy taking away actual rights from gay people they claim to be victims because they are being called out on their bigotry. American citizens’ rights to marriage were removed earlier this year. I’m sure New Gingrich can suffer some name calling for standing on the wrong side of two hundred years of civil rights battles in this country.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:24 amIsn’t it sort of odd that Newt introduced legislation in 81 to legalize medical marijuana but suppoerted legislation calling for either a life sentence or death for entering the country with more than 2 ounzes of marijuana in the mid 90’s?
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:29 amShorter Candace: “Newtie, stop being a DICK!”
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 amWell put. She pulls no punches, but she might have also called him heartless scum.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:37 amApparently the acorn can distance itself from the tree. I suppose Newt’s hate stems from some childhood slight or something. I don’t know what the sibling circumstances where and to tell the true are of so little interest I won’t attempt to find out. Suffice to say Newt is a useless piece of excrement
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:40 amHey, I know how she feels, got family like that. You can try all you want but you can’t get through to them that the world is changing around them by the day.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:54 amI think that Newt’s “hate” is purely opportunistic–but the fool is appealing to the hardcore Right, which was just proven to be a shrinking and largely impotent minority in this country. People have a lot more concerns (unaddressed by creatures like Newt) than worrying about Blackshirt Homos putting all the straights into re-education camps.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 amNewt’s comment reminds me of what a disagreeable, nightmarish world our right-wing brethren live in. Gays are plotting to mess up their marriages. We’re in a war on terror that will go on forever. There’s a “holocaust” of abortions going on. Obama is a socialist who’s going to take all our guns.
No wonder they can’t run a government. I wouldn’t be a winger for all the money in the world.

There is a fair amount of evidence that the (mainly) men who espouse the most vitriolic homopobia are overwhelmingly closeted gays who fear/detest their own longings…
You nailed it, gumm.
An easily overlooked thing about Newt’s screed that really bugs me is his apparent inability to understand or properly employ the term “fascism”. But that’s SOP for the GOP, innit?
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 amUh-oh, tokin… you’ve summoned The Daryll. And you know what that means; bitblt will follow hot on his heels to quote Paul’s epistles to us or to misrepresent Matthew.
Now you’ve done it.
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:07 amI so hope that ralph the wonder llama’s prediction will come to pass…
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 amMore chewy goodness from Ms. Gingrich:
“You belittle the relationships of gay and lesbian couples, and yet somehow neglect to explain who anointed you the protector of “traditional” marriage.”
Very nicely played. Restrained, yet devastating. No need to note Newt’s “checkered” marital past, as most everyone familiar with his career already knows the highlights.
I like this girl.
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:14 amNewt Gingrich claimed that “there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us.”
Totally ignoring the straight and religious fascism in this country that has imposed it’s will on the rest of us for the last 7 & 1/2 years.
By the way, there is no “gay and secular fascism”. But if there was, I’d sure as hell would sign up. Seriously. What with our current situation under the Bush fascism?
This smells eerily similar to the “blacks agenda” decades ago.
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 amThe one where “they” would move into the white neighborhoods and steal the wives!
Newt. Still pushing his bigoted agenda.
Doesn’t actual “fascism” require access to the tools of power to implement it?
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:33 amralph the wonder llama Says:
Doesn’t actual “fascism” require access to the tools of power to implement it?
Ah, but “liberal fascists” control academia and the media, providing them with the opportunity to brainwash innocent youth. That’s why uneducated illiterates are the only hope of the nation!
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:42 amNewtie is obviously trying to position himself for a run in 2012, and that is a move I hope he makes. His dinosaur-like thinking will be even more outmoded in 4 years. Maybe if Newtie (the name his mom used to call him even while he was in Congress) and his thinking last until 2012 he’ll pick Caribou Barbie again to be the running mate. Think of the landslide re-election Barack could generate running against those clowns as opponents.
November 23rd, 2008 at 11:44 amI’m seriously impressed with Candice as opposed to her half-brother. Newt seems to have been living in a cocoon lately.
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:25 pmHmm… it’s been three hours.
No Daryll? No bitblt?
Oh well, I’m sure they’ll be along after church.
Unless there’s a pot-luck supper afterwards.
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:39 pmthay damn well better. I am thinking that instead of pot luck supper they may be manning one of those lame as “Holday” craft sales. You the ones I mean what with the knitted kleenex box covers and the clothes pin santas…
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:47 pmI’m tired of people like Newt demonizing the word secular. What’s wrong with being secular? I’m tired of Republicans insisting the whole world bend to their radical religious views.
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 pm“ass Holiday”
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:49 pmWow that was worse than I thought. Maybe I should just start over…
They damn well better! I am thinking that instead of pot luck supper they may be manning one of those lame ass “holiday” craft sales. You know the ones I mean what with the knitted kleenex box covers and the clothes pin santas…
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:52 pmdbadass, I knew what you were saying. But then, we’re always thinking along the same lines anyway, hmm?
Besides, it’s not like Daryll and bitblt to miss a gay thread. I hope they weren’t in an accident or something.
November 23rd, 2008 at 1:02 pmMaybe Newt the lizard king actually blames teh gay people for temping him, and THAT is why he has been married 3 times. Maybe he is just looking for MR. Right.
(puns intended)
It must drive him nuts at holiday time by either:
1) recognizing the genes that flow through her to make her gay, are also in him, nagging, and pulling at his love genes
2) seeing his sister making THE CHOICE to be teh gay, and knowing he is trying to do everyhing in his itty bitty power to crush her hopes of freely loving/marrying whom she wants, as freely as he has now done it 3 times.
Poor poor pitiful excuse for a human Newt.
November 23rd, 2008 at 1:20 pmThanksgiving at the Gingrich house will be very awkward, I predict.
November 23rd, 2008 at 1:43 pmCandice is a clear, articulate, and progressive woman. She is completely correct. Newt claims that the gay community wants to impose its will on the nation, when HE is imposing his PERSONAL will on him by denying a minority basic human rights. Marriage is a social function, and the religious rightists cannot claim ownership over such a function in a nation where the church cannot dictate the actions of the state.
Let’s hope that Newt chairs the RNC. His outdated ideals and horrible comments will only serve the progressives that stand against the man’s hateful agenda.
November 23rd, 2008 at 3:19 pmimposing his personal will on the nation*
November 23rd, 2008 at 3:20 pmCandice, you should know better than anyone that Newt has NOTHING but hate in his heart. He is incapable of sympathy or empathy. In other words, he’s a sociopath.
Newt will do anything to anyone if it furthers his personal and political goals. Look at what he did to his first wife. Look at what he did during his time as Speaker of the House. Look at his conduct during the Clinton impeachment. And just look where he is today.
If Newt is the future of the GOP, then the GOP is already dead. Americans just rejected wholesale the type of politics that Newt embraces and promotes. Republicans would do well to tell Newt to sit down and STFU.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:33 amYou go Candice !!! We are standing with you. It is so true what you said. Those who look to the past will never open to new ideas and new ways.
This nation is moving, we are tired of standing still while the rest of the world is moving ahead with progress.
It’s hard to let go…as you can see.
We depend on you Candice when your brother opens his big mouth. Putting him in his place will open the minds of a lot of people.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:19 amWasn’t it sweet, kind, compassionate Newt who walked into his wife’s hospital room the morning after she had surgery for cancer to have her sign divorce papers? He couldn’t wait until she was up and about while he could still have spent time with his paramour? It seems taking the cowards way out is a way of life with Newt. By the way where was Newt serving in his generation’s war, Viet Nam. A war, I might add, he approved of.
