Today, Fox News announced that Alan Colmes will be leaving his 12-year gig as co-host of “Hannity and Colmes.” From the release:
FOX News Channel’s (FNC) Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year.
In announcing his decision, Colmes said, “I approached Bill Shine (FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”
Colmes will continue to have a presence on FNC as he will serve as a liberal commentator on a variety of FOX News programming, including Foxnews.com’s The Strategy Room and continue hosting his radio program, The Alan Colmes Show on FOX Talk, a division of FOX News Radio. He will also begin developing a weekend program.
No word on whether Fox will hire a new liberal to counter Hannity.
Colmes: Poster child for the Center-Right.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:05 pmI try not to harm my tools, either, Mr. Colmes.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:06 pmHannity and Colmes are married? Who knew!
November 24th, 2008 at 2:06 pmAlthough it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”
Hey Alan: Glad to hear you weren’t hurt, trampled on, shouted over, side-lined, muzzled, and all. Will they let you take you balls back out of escrow when you leave?
Cheers,
November 24th, 2008 at 2:10 pmI wonder who Faux could hire who’d be a less effective water boy for the Faux house “liberal” than Colmes.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:10 pm.
Oh great…
… Now who’s gonna be the faux liberal?
.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:10 pmWTF? 12 year gig as “co-host”?
12 year gig as “lizard faced punching bag” would be more accurate.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pm“Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”
Silly fake liberal, it’s conservatives who resort to violence to solve their grievances with others, not liberals.
No one at FOX Noise has to worry about physical attacks from liberals.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pmColmes? Liberal commentator?
BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHH!!! Thanks for the laff o’ the day!!!
November 24th, 2008 at 2:12 pmNo word on whether Fox will hire a new liberal to counter Hannity.
They never hired a first one to begin with…
November 24th, 2008 at 2:13 pmMore to the point, his gig is being a side kick for a Faux reichwinger with the mentality of a twelve year old.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:14 pmNow who’s gonna be the faux liberal?
Probably Juan Williams.
Of course, if they really want to “jump the shark”, they will team Little Seanie up with a faux pundit . . . Little Billy Kristol, perhaps.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:15 pmNot the words of a liberal:
November 24th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Hannity just got a new $100 million dollar contract from Fox…
Makes you wonder what Alan, the fall guy, was being paid.
How about Palin as a sidekick, Insannity? She’s more charismatic than you, better liked, better looking, but just as dumb and undereducated as you.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:17 pmI’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”
Well, I mean, Hannity was the only one in any danger of any harm, since Colmes’ natural position was with Hannity’s dick in his mouth, and Colmes had always been valued for hei lack of teeth in any case…
November 24th, 2008 at 2:18 pmRupert Murdoch is looking now for other names after Colmes leaves:
Hannity & Newt.
Hannity & Rove.
Hannity & Perino…
November 24th, 2008 at 2:22 pmThis truly would be Thanksgiving Week news to be thankful for, if, that is, one had any confidence that FOX would risk hiring an actual effective co-host for Colmes’ replacement. (Say…Rachel Maddow, for example.)
Naturally, the more likely outcome will be a new Hannity “liberal” playmate along the embarrassing lines of Geri Ferraro.
It would certainly take a LOT to make progressives miss Alan Colmes, but somehow I think FOX is up to the challenge.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:22 pmNo word on whether Fox will hire a new liberal to counter Hannity.
No self-respecting liberal would go anywhere near that show. I suspect that Colmes finally got tired of hearing Hannity lie about Obama day after day. Maybe it’s not too late for Colmes to redeem his soul.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:25 pmActually, since Colmes is staying with Fox, it sounds like he will continue to be their token “Liberal”.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pmToo bad Joe Lieberman is still so busy in the Senate, he’d fit right in.

No way would Hannity put up with that. I’m betting that he is scared spitless of Rachel. I would love to see them go one-on-one, though. Just imagine it, the Rhodes Scholar vs. the High School Dropout. It would be almost as entertaining as watching Rachel take on Sarah Palin.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pmIn what way can Alan Colmes be described as “liberal”?
November 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pmHannity and Palin
November 24th, 2008 at 2:29 pmColmes probably got tired of being the “liberal to be named later”. Reportedly, Hannity and Colmes was a show for Hannity and, as a Fox News memo put it, “a liberal to be determined later”. Colmes got no respect from liberals or conservatives. He’s probably tired of being dissed so often, and for being humiliated on a network day after day.

Hannity would have a blood vessel burst in his head on the air in the middle of one of his fits, if he had to deal with Rachel as co-host. She has Buchanan doing flips every time he is on her show it is, LOL
November 24th, 2008 at 2:29 pmWhy bother? Colmes was never much of an opponent for Hannity anyway. Since when did Faux News really care about balance anyway?
November 24th, 2008 at 2:31 pmHannity and Charlie McCarthy?
November 24th, 2008 at 2:33 pmHannity and Charlie McCarthy?
November 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pmheh…
“No, you’re the Dummy!”
Rachael Maddow would definitely give Hannity a stroke if she appeared on the show with him. I don’t think that Hannity would even enter the studio if he knew that Maddow was there waiting on him.
In case you haven’t already, be sure to catch Rachael’s show on MSNBC.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pmThere is a great comparison of Hannity and Colmes:
WWE wrestling, where Hannity is the prima donna bad guy and Colmes is the pathetic muling ‘good guy’.
Or, The Hannity Globetrotters and the Colmes Generals…
November 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pmDammit, Tom! You beat me to it!
November 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pmHannity’s favorite tactic with liberals is to force a yes or no answer.
It doesn’t matter if the question deserves an extended answer. But it does set him up to show how ’superior’ he is.
How about Newt? We could call it ‘The Liar & the Lizard‘. Or, ‘Contract ON America‘.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:36 pmHe is on Faux News, but is neither a radical free-market fundamentalist, nor an unrepentant fascist.
So in that way, he is a “liberal”.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Oh my god i can’t stop laughing, that’s hilarious.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:41 pmNope. Uh-uh. It’s going to be the Alan Colmes-Judith Miller Life-Long Liberal Show.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:52 pmSegmeents: “The Democrat Party left Me”
“”Even the Liberal New York Times”
and
“Hard-Left Loony destroying the Democrt Party Of The Week.”
The place of Colmes on Hannity will be filled by a slab of particle board, two two-by-fours and a can of spackle.
There is no liberal who can counter Hannity! Liberals occupy a world grounded in reality and empirical fact; Hannity lives in a delusional fantasyland.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:10 pmColmes will continue to have a presence on FNC
Yeah, if ciphers can have something called “presence.”
November 24th, 2008 at 3:23 pmRather than having another “liberal” on the set with slant head, I think Faux Noise should put Billo on with Hannity so we can watch them try to out hate one another. Could a stroke or two be far behind?
November 24th, 2008 at 3:24 pmYou’ve got a point, there…
November 24th, 2008 at 3:26 pmA show called “Hannity And A Garbage Bag Full of Rusty Old Doorknobs” would do about the same amount of liberl representin’ as Hannity and Colmes.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:27 pmOh, man – the longest lasting S&M relationship on the teevee is breaking up…????
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
(Alan must have forgotten the safe word.)
November 24th, 2008 at 3:32 pmFaux just announced who’s going to take over for colmes-they’ve just hired sarah palin because we know how “mavericky” she is.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:42 pmJust part of the plan. As offensive as FAUX has been, I fear we ain’t seen nothin yet. I think we can look forward to a constant stream of “Obama betrays country” drivel.

Not the words of a liberal:
“Genius, scholar, and war hero though he is, you have to admit – or maybe you should think about admitting – that George Bush might have rushed things a little in invading Iraq.” -Alan Colmes
November 24th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
unbelieveable, that quote is pretty….what’s the word I’m looking for….UNBELIEVEABLE! So I googled it and it only comes up on thinkexist.com where apparently anyone can post anything. So maybe that’s just sarcasm from a poster. Dubya as genius, scholar, war hero??? It’s gotta be sarcasm.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:54 pmpete, expect a hundred faux scandals like Clinton’s Christmas card listGate, TravelGate, NannyGate, Lincoln bedroomGate, etc.Gate.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:57 pmDon’t worry, Keith. I have a hoard of popcorn ready. Though I must confess a preference for the “AntichristGate” memes. Plus, I’m quite sure that any time a pigeon drops a feather on the White House lawn it will be offered as proof that the Obama’s are engaging in animal sacrifice.
November 24th, 2008 at 4:10 pmColmes will draw dozens of viewers with his new show. I don’t think he has a feel for how irrelevant and disdained he is.
November 24th, 2008 at 4:17 pm‘Hannity may become the program’s sole host.”
And that’s a change?
November 24th, 2008 at 4:29 pmFox has been selling Colmes as a liberal on Hannity’s show…
Laughable.
November 24th, 2008 at 4:32 pmOh. No. Whatever will we do? Lamentations! We shall be losing a powerful liberal voice! Oh. No. And howsoever will FAUX continue to purport that it is fair-and-balanced without such a strong voice for progressivism?
Oh. No. What next? Rupert Murdoch’s powerful voice for liberalism stilled? Oh. No.
November 24th, 2008 at 4:39 pmJonathan Singer at MyDD is floating Sam Seder as a potential replacement.
Never happen. Seder would never pass Hannity’s muster. He’d be too likely to put up an actual fight.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:37 pmGetting the seat opposite Hannity would be a dubious position.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:46 pmWho would want to have to deal with that partisan moron on a daily basis.
As for Sam Seder, he would hold his own, no doubt, and show up Hannity for the idiot that he is, but why would he subject himself to that?
How about if they give Sam Seder his own show?
November 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pmI suspected this was coming. I can’t find the exact page on Alan Colmes’ blog but about a month ago he got into a tiff with Hannity on the air about the Obama/Ayres association. Colmes momentarily got some courage and stood up to Hannity. Colmes later wrote on his blog that Hannity was furious and locked himself in the dressing room bathroom demanding to see his lawyer and the producer before he came out. The next day the lawyers confirmed that Colmes’ contract permitted him to disagree with Hannity. Now this.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:08 amWatcher, I remember hearing about the on-air tiff re: Ayres. I loved you telling us that Hannity the Twit throwing a snit over it. Maybe Colmes really has gotten fed up with the obnoxious and overbearing Hannity. But it’s more likely that management put Colmes in his place for upsetting the mighty Hannity and Colmes said the hell with it.
My first thought was that we heard everything about Hannity’s fat new contract but we heard nothing about a pay boost for the designated punching bag Colmes. Being dissed as the low paid sidekick could have been too much. I thought that was more likely than Colmes suddenly becoming a man and walking away from the abuse.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:57 amSo Judy will actually leave Punch after all these years of amazing right wing hand puppetry.
Who next? Sean (The Leprechaun) Hannity vs Dennis (The Menace) Miller?
November 25th, 2008 at 11:06 amWatcher confused by so many lies. The scandalous argument between H&C was in August and it was Colmes comparison of Edwards and McCain’s marital infidelity. I found it! Newshounds.us still has the video. Search for “Colmes firestorm”. See Hannity almost explode when his scripted scenario collapses. Also see a link in their article to Colmes blog. In that thread way down at 4:32AM Alan writes;
“Well folks, seems I kicked up a storm with this one. After the show Sean ran into the studio’s bathroom yelling and screaming for Management and his Lawyers (guess he needed to check over the small print to see where it says I have a right to criticize him, guess what? I do. It took Bill O’Reilly an hour and half to coax him out of the cubical, don’t even want to think about that scenario)But I can promise you from now on that I will be more aggressive with all those far right neocons in future. Oh yeah I think Sean’s gonna bring out his extension of his Dick (Karl Rove) tonight to try and justify his foolishness and ignorance. I take Kirsten Powers anyday over him. Thank you all for helping me into the light. Keep watching it’s gonna get interesting. (My contracts up for review in a months time and im holding out for a pay rise and the shows title to be changed to H & Colmes)”
November 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pm“Colmes firestorm” on Google gets many hits. Here is the YouTube video.

November 25th, 2008 at 3:30 pmAlan Colmes is a dumba$$. He is not a good commentator anyway. He needs to find an occupation he is good at, maybe a trash collector would be the answer.
January 10th, 2009 at 1:09 pmI am new hear, so I am trying to get caught up on the posts.
But from what I’ve read so far, most of you think Colmes
was NOT LIBERAL ENOUGH ??!!!
Is that correct ?
WOW.
That man is just about as far left as you can go. Would you prefer some one farther left ?
Al Gore ?
Tim Robbins ?
Al Frankin ?
Who would better represent your core beliefs ?
