Florida judge strikes down ban on gay adoptions.

Today, a Florida judge ruled that the state’s strict law banning the adoption of children by same-sex couples is unconstitutional. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Cindy Lederman rejected the state’s arguments that there is “a supposed dark cloud hovering over homes of homosexuals and their children.” She noted that gay people are allowed to be foster parents, adding, “There is no rational basis to prohibit gay parents from adopting.” Florida was the only state with an outright ban, although Utah “bans any unmarried straight or gay couples from adopting or fostering children. Mississippi bans gay couples, but not single gays, from adopting.”

I wasn’t going to post today (too busy), but I can’t let this one slide.
Surely, we’ll be visited by Parodyll the Failure or bitblt the idgit, trying to convince us how morally wrong this is. Unless they are in parody mode, it’s because they believe it’s a choice.
    News Flash!
Most of us (critically able thinking individuals) don’t believe it’s a choice.
Therefore, most of us believe that children raised in a loving healthy environment, is more important than your neanderthal anti gay propaganda.
In other words, don’t bless us with your nonsense. It’s old, it’s stale, it reeks of bigotry and hatred, which is completely opposite of your supposed pseudo-(c)hristian values.

God forbid, if something happened to my wife and I, and family members couldn’t take care of our children, I’d wish they be raised by a caring loving couple, regardless of their sexual orientation.

By the way, neighbors of ours, two “moms”, if you will, have adopted, and are raising healthy, loving children, one of whom happens to be dating a member of the opposite sex.
Welp, so much for the “gay environment will cause gayness of the children” argument.

So, in conclusion, I’d just like to say to Parodyll and idjit, before they post…
    STFU!!

    Thank you, Happy Holidays!

  16. ElBruce says:

    Hey RaptureReady – you WBC?

I’m more concerned with the sinful crime of legitimizing so-called “second marriages.” Marriage is traditionally defined as permanent. If someone wants to ditch their spouse and go shack up with someone else, society shouldn’t condone their adulterous lifestyle. It is a sin for any judge, politician or voter to support allowing such sinful “unions” to continue. Divorce = adultery.

And so on and so forth. I’ll drop my campaign if (for starters) every divorced person advocating against gay rights drops theirs. Until then I will work my ass off to take away their marriage, visitation, and adoption rights as well as their tax considerations and insurance coverage.

Then I’m starting in on the abominable shellfish eaters.

  17. muzz says:

No numbnuts – morality does NOT offend me. What offends me are idiots like you that think make it their purpose in life to worry about, and interfere with everyone else’s lives. You give christians a bad name. Focus on your own damn family.

ReptureReady wrote: “This judge will have to answer to God for his sins.”

Sin? What sin? The judge decided the case based on the LAW and the reality of the modern world. Blind, narrowminded bias is no longer enough to justify violating the civil and human rights of gay and lesbian Americans.

Trust me: God is much less concerned about homosexuals than He is about how we all treat one another. If you are a Christian as you seem to claim, you’d know that. You would know that Jesus taught us that the highest value is to love God with all our hearts and minds and to love our neighbors as ourselves. He also told us not to judge one another. Read your Bible again, this time focusing just on the red letter verses in the New Testament. THAT is the important part; there is a reason that Jesus’ words are in a different font color.

Stop using God and Jesus to beat up on people you don’t like and don’t understand. Don’t point out the beam in my eye before you remove the speck in yours.

    “This must be stopped.”
    – I agree. Ensuring gays get the same rights as the rest of us should be a no-brainer, and shouldn’t have to be battled out in the courts, the voting booths, or anywhere else. It’s as ridiculous as left-handed people having to fight to be treated like everyone else.

“Florida is slowly becoming like California.”
    – Nah, the cockroaches are still much, much bigger in Florida. And California has earthquakes.

“Look at Miami, I can’t tell whether or not I am in the U.S. or South America.”
    – If you’re in Miami, you’re in the United States. Do you think a population has to be all white of northern European extraction to look like the United States? Did you have some kind of point to make with this remark, other than to demonstrate your racism?

“This judge will have to answer to God for his sins.”
    – As do you. And as do we all. Why don’t you worry about your sins and let the judge worry about his?

“Jesus will not drop the charges on this judge for his sinful decision.”
    – How do you know exactly what Jesus will do? You’ve already demonstrated that information you claimed came directly from the Almighty was false. Do you remember “President-Elect Huckabee”?

“Our church is working to stop homosexuality.”
    – Homosexuality has been around as long as humans have. How much effect do you really think you and your church will have stopping it? You might as well attempt to stop people from being short.

“We protested during the nationwide gay march in the Adams Morgan area.”
    – Oh, I bet THAT was effective…

“We are also trying to make the world morally sound.”
    – Again, if you want to make the world morally sound, I suggest you start with yourself. Attacking other countries without provocation is immoral. Denying people their civil rights is immoral. Disrespecting others is immoral. Assuming you are superior to others is immoral. Try reading something in the Bible besides Leviticus and Acts.

    Fit through that needle yet?
When the whore was thrown to the dirt, who did Jesus say should throw stones?
Who did Jesus say we should judge?
How did Jesus implore that we treat each other?

When you say, “Look at Miami, I can’t tell whether or not I am in the U.S. or South America,” how is that not blatant (R)acism? Is this how Jesus should look at you? Is it fair to expect Jesus to drop charges for you and not others? You protest against the gay community for their sins… do you hide behind that self righteousness just to hide your own failings? Sure, we may not be privileged to your sins, but with all your religiosity, is God shielded from your sins too?

    RR(aka D.),
Save your soul first. If you are free of sin, Christ commanded that you NOT condemn others for what you, yourself posses, but instead He commanded that you give of yourself even more to those less fortunate to be a pure as you.

    RR(aka D.),
Why do you think God will absolve you of your false witnessing?

  21. jpopphan says:

I am sure it won’t be long before we’re hearing about “activist judges” again and how that there should be a popular vote on the rights of homosexuals to adopt. What is really sad is that most of the time gay couples end up adopting or providing foster care for very, very troubled and/or sick children. Are “Christians” like RaptureReady lining up to adopt crack babies? Or children with AIDS? Or non-white, non-infant children? In many cases, the only people that will take in a challenged child are gays and lesbians.

When the law is examined and reviewed without bias, it is clear that laws specifically excluding homosexuals from adoption, being foster care providers, getting married, etc. are UNCONSTITUTIONAL and therefore putting such issues on an election ballot is worthless.

The role of the Judiciary in our government is to interpret the laws written by the Legislature and signed into law by the Executive branch, be it at the state or the Federal level. A judge is not being “activist” if s/he grounds an argument in the law and in the spirit of the Equal Protection clause of the US Constitution (which supersedes state constitutions by the way).

  22. muzz says:

You are not spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ – it’s your own twisted version of what you think that is. If you want to spread the gospel, why don’t you “feed the hungry”, or “clothe the naked”? Funny – I don’t think there is much about “I am right – and everyobdoy else is wrong”.

  23. jpopphan says:

RaptureReady writes: “I will continue to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sin will not continue to reside within this world. Jesus informed his children to spread the gospel. We must travel to rid this world of sin.”

Well then, why don’t you actually work on that and focus on what JESUS said was important. Jesus never said one word about homosexuality. The only reference in the New Testament to homosexuality comes from Romans and is part of the forged letters of Paul that were actually written by the Catholic Church and inserted into the biblical canon. The single verse in Leviticus, including the mistranslated word that in the KJV of the Bible is written as “abomination”; this is not an accurate rendering of the original Hebrew. The real Hebrew term is translated as “contrary to ritual”.

Besides, since when did “Christians” actually apply such things to themselves? I hear all the time about the “abomination” of homosexuality, but I never see people protesting in front of Red Lobster or blowing up the boats that go out and catch them. Shellfish – lobsters, clams, shrimp, etc. – are UNCLEAN, remember?

One more thing: Jesus never promised a world “without sin”. You really need to re-read your New Testament. I am beginning to think that you really have no understanding of the religion that you claim to represent.

Daryll, you are not spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ because that “good news” is that we are loved and saved regardless of any of our sins. You are trying to condemn people who you think are sinning against God, forget about letting him decide and act on that for himself. Second, about that speaking in tongues – do you have someone translating? If you don’t then it is not of the Holy Spirit – read the Bible a little closer.

Would you deny a parentless child a loving home?

Was it the whore, the tax collector, the afflicted?

As Missmolly pointed out, if you’re in Florida, you’re in the USA.
If you fear the brown skin, it’s because you’re a (R)acist!

Just who is you’re saving if you care not for your own sins?
    Speaking of your sins…
… Just who should be judge of them? Why is it O.K. for you to judge others? Is this how you wish to be treated? How does this correspond to Christ’s Commandments of us? If we are to judge each other then aren’t you saying Jesus was a LIAR?

    … Confused?
If Jesus came to teach Love and Compassion, why is it you think He hates by your emulation of that hate? Does this mean it is acceptable in the eye of God to hate you too?

Jesus never said one word about homosexuality.
bit doesn’t think anyone is qualified to make this statement, categorically. While it is the case that the Bible doesn’t record Christ speaking about homosexuality, the Bible is quite clear that not everything that Jesus said or did was recorded.

Nonetheless, Christ did speak to the Creator’s intent in Matthew 19. Here Christ says that a man and a woman would be “one flesh” in marriage. This is a state that cannot be achieved by to same-same gender people. So if you’re so interested, and believe, in what the New Testament says, why don’t you quote what Jesus explicitly said?

Shellfish – lobsters, clams, shrimp, etc. – are UNCLEAN, remember?

Do you know what the Old Testament punishment was for eating shellfish? Good. Do you know what the OT punishment was for homosexuality?

You might want to make a comparison of the punishments when you use this particular line of reasoning in an attempt to show hypocrisy.

Man, you’re a hard-case today. Seems that you of all the people posting of TP would know that if you don’t agree with RR the thing to do is just ignore him.

Whether or not you’re a sodomite is irrelevant if you don’t believe Jesus is the Son of God. John 3:16 makes this very clear.

    kingdom – 1Co 6:9-10
    c. Sodomites (those who practice homosexuality) contrary to
    sound doctrine – 1Ti 1:10
    d. Reference to Sodom and Gomorrah, going after ’strange flesh’
    - Jude 1:7″

A is part of the forged letters of Paul, so no dice there.

B is also part of the forged letters, so again no dice. Besides, in that passage the emphasis is not specific to homosexuals.

C is the same as B.

D refers to a mistranslation and misunderstanding of the story about Sodom and Gomorrah. The sin of these cities was not homosexuality; it was violating the customs of hospitality. Otherwise, why would Lot have offered the men his daughters? Homosexual men would not have been placated with women.

So, try again. Maybe actually READ the teachings of Jesus instead of dwelling on forged letters written in Paul’s name?

This is a state that cannot be achieved by to same-same gender people. So if you’re so interested, and believe, in what the New Testament says, why don’t you quote what Jesus explicitly said?

Let’s check that out: from the NIV:

    3. Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

    4. “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]? 6So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

This goes right back to my complaint about divorce. So-called “second marriages” are nothing more than societally condoned adultery. Divorce should be illegal, and divorced people should not be allowed to adopt. Henry VIII’s attempts to change the traditional definition of marriage should be opposed.

    bitblt Says:

Do you know what the Old Testament punishment was for eating shellfish? Good. Do you know what the OT punishment was for homosexuality?
Actually, what was the punishment for eating shellfish anyways? Or “spilling your seed on the ground?”

How about for disobeying your parents…?

  44. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

The Holy Scriptures is specifically for believers. While God/Jesus commands that believers “teach” the Good News, there is no commandment for believers to jam it down unbelievers’ throats, make it enforceable by governmental decree, or to use it as a means of oppression.

  45. Max-1 says:

  49. ElBruce says:

    RR –

Gospel in government is a bad idea specifically for the reason that you might support it now, but if it went through odds are good that your particular form of Christianity would be legally supressed. That’s been the case pretty much everwhere that state-sponsored religion has ever been established.

As I recall, Jesus said quite a lot about people wearing their piety on their sleeves while bloviating about the sins of others. You might want to review the gospels and keep an eye out for that. He says it’s a sin and you’re going to go to hell. No, really he does. You may recall a few passages about that.

So, I’m just trying to save you here by pointing out that you’re being a judgemental finger-pointing holier-than-thou ass.

If you want to save others, you should do it in a positive manner without condemning them, as Jesus did Himself.

  52. ElBruce says:

By the way RR, your reading list entirely exludes the actual Gospels, which is the first four books of the New Testament. The two are not the same thing, as one would think you would know. The former is the part where some of the apostles relate the biography of Jesus from following him. The latter is commentary by later apostles and church leaders on Christianity in general. I’m talking about the parts where people who were with Jesus relate the things he said. Not the parts where other people say things.

Jesus used people like the apostle Paul to spread his word.

Something I’ve meant to ask – if Paul before converting to Christianity was a Roman who was employed persecuting Christians, then doesn’t that mean that he became a Christian sometime after Jesus’ death? So he would have never met Jesus at all.

I gather from your comment that you hold that Jesus transferred information spiritually to Paul, which he later wrote down. I’m interested to know where that process stops, and why. Should we include Muhammed? Joseph Smith? Jim Jones? David Koresh? Why or why not?

I’m sure you’re aware that the determination of which religious writings would be included in the New Testament was decided by a vote of the early bishops of the Catholic Church, some centuries after Jesus’ death. So what determination do you use to fix what you consider to be the dividing line between valid prophecy and outright lunacy? Could they have made mistakes? Might there be other religious works that belong in there, or might some of the books included in the commonly accepted edition of the bible actually not be the word of God?

Here we go with feminism. Point clear, in general, homosexuality is a sin. If you intentionally continue to practice homosexual acts, read the book of Revelation about your outcome.

How is your skewing of the Bible correct but when I correct you on those facts, it’s feminism rearing it’s ugly head.

Please cite the verse where Jesus condemns homosexuals.

Here’s a fun bible study question:

Does the bible (old or new testaments) say anything at all pro or con regarding girl-on-girl action?

    Fun fact: it does NOT!

    Lesbians get a total pass.

The bible says that man was made for woman. Anything else, homosexuality/beastality, is sin.

I’ll need a specific citation on that as a matter of religious law, please. “Anything else is a sin” is far too vague to be applicable to such an important topic as the determination of sin.

  63. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

For God so loved the world (more than Daryll does)that he gave his only Son (whose name was not Daryll)and whosoever believes in him (not Daryll’s characterization of him) shall not perish but have everlasting life. Homosexuals, murderers, adulterers, and Darylls can all apply. Amen.

  64. Max-1 says:

    #77 D

The bible says that man was made for woman. Anything else, homosexuality/bestiality, is sin.

Again, with the purposeful misinterpretations of the Bible…

Daryyl, WOMAN WAS CREATED TO BE MAN’S COMPANION! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

And to throw in bestiality into the equation… Geesh, where do you ever stop? Equating bestiality to homosexuals… makes YOU the pig!

  65. ElBruce says:

OK RR, I think I’ve got your method down. God’s intention, “in general” statements, etc. all define sin. In order to save others from eternal damnation, we must vocally condemn sin, as well as supporting the removal of civil rights from those who live sinful lifestyles.

From the majority of Jesus’ statements, vocally condemning sin, is a sin. Behaving in a holier-than-thou fashion is a sin. You are therefore going to hell for behaving this way, and you should have your civil rights revoked. Your sinful “evangelical” lifestyle should not be condoned by society.

Oh crap, since I’m telling you you’re going to hell, that applies to me now! We’re all going to hell together!!!1!

    I’ll go get the handbasket.

  66. Max-1 says:

    dbadass,
Dishonesty is a virtue Daryyl strives to attain.

  67. dasm says:

It was the only decision to make. Many adopted & foster children live rich, loving, well cared for lives with gay/lesbian couples. The only thing that should matter is that the living environment is nurturing, loving, safe & encouraging for the child.

  68. ElBruce says:

RR, wait – alchohol is a sin now too? That’s not anywhere in Hebrew or Christian law… anywhere. Maybe some modern strains of Protestantism. Islam, definitely. But if we’re talking about biblical references, there’s less in the negative said about booze than even lesbianism (aka. zero).

  69. dbadass says:

AsElBruce points out, your soul is at risk. I am there for you my man and can loan you mine for a bit to tide you over. So let me get this wine thing straight. Strong drink no good. Strong drink provided by a potential weird dude that may or may not have molested a child cool. Is that how it goes?

  70. Max-1 says:

    D.

Many people didn’t believe he was the son of God. Why do you think that they wanted to crucify him?

This, in no way answers the question I asked: If Jesus turned water into win, this was because He was against the strong drink?

I’m not disputing whatever that means. I’m just interested to know if you have any consistent definition regarding what texts do and do not constitute “scripture.” Can I write a chapter and send it to you and have you preach it?

  74. dbadass says:

    Max-1:
I mean no disrespect but you do realize that RR/Daryll isn’t real correct?

15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD

That’s between Eli and Hannah. There’s nothing there from God to you and me. Should we take anything anybody says to anybody else in the bible as commandments from God to us? If so, I could pick some doozies.

  76. dbadass says:

    I tell you what…

    p.s.
If you do get there first, give my seat to Jerry Falwell instead, K? He’ll need the extra seat for his little lying ass. Oh, and save a seat for Haggart, too. Oh, and what’s his face, the reformed gay coke addict who hires male prostitute to commit adultery on his wife with…

  81. ElBruce says:

    RaptureReady Says:

    Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Interesting. The Old Testament is not at all shy about saying “don’t do this” or “do that.” This just says being decieved by strong drink is not wise. If it was sinful, it would say “don’t drink.” But it doesn’t. So who are you to elevate something from the category of unwise to the category of sinful? And what kind of a sin is that?!?

    P.S, dbadass, Darry’l ain’t a bot.

  82. dbadass says:

  83. Moderation says:

Not being wise =/= sin. Not being wise =/= condemned by G-d. Stop conflating the words of men in your compiled-and-chosen-by-men book of fables with the words of the Deity you are supposed to worship in your compiled-and-chosen-by-men book of fables. Also, stop forcing it on everyone else, and spreading the world loudly on the corners lest you be a hypocrite. Listen to the words of your Lord and Savior and preach through your actions, NOT through your words. Give away all of your worldly goods to those less fortunate than you, raise Mankind as a whole up through love and generosity and acceptance and giving, stop casting stones, stop using fear of an afterlife of DOOM and DAMNATION to motivate others. Oh…and go live away from Rome in a community of the like-minded, kicking sand on the feet of all who don’t answer your words of, “God be with you…” with the return phrase of knowing, “…and with you”, letting you know who is a Christian and who is not.

Oh, wait, right. You actually ARE a hypocrite. My bad. Carry on into social oblivion, then, dragging truly good people down with you into the cesspool of blind hatred towards all whom are different, like gays, and non-Christians, and brown people (you know, like Yeshua was).

  91. Moderation says:

What truly cracks me up is the refusal by die-hard fundies to acknowledge science that they disagree with, while utilizing the fruits of different science that they either used to or still…disagree with. :o

Homosexuality in males has been linked to genetics, and also to a specific correlation with the mother: Every time a mother has an additional boy, there is a specific curve of statistical chance that that boy will be gay as an adult. Each additional boy has a progressively higher chance to be gay. This is true whether or not the child is raised in that family, or is raised as a single child in another family, or raised with a straight or gay couple, or raised in an orphanage, or changed from foster home to foster home for a long time. There is zero correlation with environment for this statistical chance, and it is believed that the mother’s womb generates permanent hormonal cues to increase the odds of a gay male as more male offspring are born. There is zero correlation with women in this regard in any way. A tenth female child has as much chance of being gay as a first born female.

There are 1400 species on earth and counting that exhibit homosexual behavior in natural settings with no man-made influence.

In other words, this seems very much to be an evolutionary trait to prevent overpopulation in humans, before taking genetics into account. There are distinctive genetic markers correlating to bisexual and homosexual males, tending to be female-like structures in the DNA, i.e. men with woman-like mechanisms. There are genetic markers in women that are the same, where they display male-like DNA traits, making them more likely to be bisexual or lesbian. Neither is a guarantee, but both indicate likelihood.

In other words, RR and D and his ilk are full of tremendous amounts of crap, and like to bury their head in the sand when it bothers their sensibilities, while utilizing the fruits of the labors of those whom, and those sciences with which they specifically and vehemently disagree with.

Hypocrites of the highest (lowest?) order.

Homosexuality in males has been linked to genetics…

That’s some interesting stuff there. Got citations?

I’d be willing to bet that homosexuality manifests epigenetically. It seems to fit – something you can’t change through behavior but which isn’t itself directly DNA-encoded. That would explain the ability to transmit the trait to offspring as well as the ability of the trait to adapt to environmental circumstances early in development.

    C) When all else fails, they will simply revert to inane non-arguments such as this:

I must admit, I have deeply enjoyed the verbal target practice over the years…

But, I find that now, having “won” the election (read precluded another theft thereof)… I’m just too tired to bother much anymore.

All that said… There still remains a pleasant “glow” (not unlike that reached about half-way through a killer Chilean Cabernet) from the occasional weenie-roast.
