The current economic crisis is the result of the failure of unregulated, unfettered capitalism. It is not the result of the Democratic party winning a slim majority in Congress in 2006. It is not the result of the successful campaign of President-elect Barack Obama. It is, however, the unavoidable fruit of the under-regulation promoted by the GOP and its free-market purists who think that the magic market will solve all problems.

If anything, this economic crisis should demonstrate to all of us how bankrupt the ideology of people like Norquist really is. A properly regulated, well managed and responsible company is a successful one. Capitalists are incapable of regulating themselves. It is for their own safety and the security of the rest of us who also live in the same economy as the fat cats. We all win when we are all responsible.
