President and First Lady Bush recently sent Jewish community leaders invitations to a Hanukkah reception at the White House next month. But as the New York Post reports, the invitations “raised more than a few eyebrows” because the image on them was that of a “Clydesdale horse hauling a Christmas fir along the snow-dappled drive to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave”:

One Jewish community leader from Brooklyn quipped, “It’s obvious what’s going on here: The Christmas tree is being taken out of the White House and the menorah is being brought in the back.” The first lady’s spokesperson explained, “It is something that just slipped through the cracks.”
“It is something that just slipped through the cracks.”
– - Slipped, my butt. You could drive a Peterbilt through the cracks in this administration.

November 26th, 2008 at 5:07 pmWhat Republicans Will Be Grateful For This Thanksgiving.
Happy Turkey Day and happy holidays to everyone from JP in Pottersville.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:07 pmI’m sorry, the country’s economy is in a free fall. Why are We the People funding parties at the White House?
If George and Laura wanna throw a holiday bash, let them either pay for it themselves, or hold a potluck.
And turn the damn lights out when you leave the room! Your energy bills are killin’ us!
PEACER
November 26th, 2008 at 5:08 pmCrap…misspelled that again!
So sorry!

Oops. And I wonder if those Kwanzaa-themed X-mas invitations were sent out too.

CRACK, CRYSTAL METH, BOOZE…….
November 25, 2008 — Bush reported to be drinking heavy
by Wayne Madsen @ waynemadsenreport.com
With less than two months remaining in office, George W. Bush, witnessing a devastating defeat for the Republican Party, worse favorability ratings than those of Richard Nixon at the height of the Watergate scandal, and the most devastating economic situation since the Great Depression, is reported by a number of well-placed sources in Washington as drinking heavily.
After having tried to explain away the collapse of several Wall Street brokerage houses by saying, “Wall Street got drunk,” it appears that it is Bush who is suffering from bouts of drunkenness.
According to informed sources who spoke to WMR, Bush was visibly drunk at the recent G-20 economic summit in Washington and at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Lima, Peru. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, Chinese President Hu Jintao, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper were among the world leaders who had the chance to witness an inebriated Bush both at the G-20 and APEC summits…….

November 26th, 2008 at 5:21 pmLets cut Chimpy some slack on this one. The first Nitwits are going to be history in 55 days and wont ever have to deal with people other than other rich Bushies after that. So lets give him this one and move on.
This is as bad as Bill O’Lielly and his faux “war” on Christmas sending out holiday greetings to people. LOLOL.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:22 pm8 years has slipped through the cracks!
November 26th, 2008 at 5:25 pmI am going to state what others hesitate to commit to: Evangelicals do not like Jews. Gays are openly hated; Jews are quietly hated. The Christian right would like us to believe that support for Israel reflects attitudes towards Jews. Actually, support for Israel is a function of “the rapture” in which all the Jews die.
George is very much a part of the Christian right. Counting the seconds to his departure.
Given that I am gay and Jewish I feel twice blessed.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:27 pmA lot of things seen to slip through the cracks in the Bush Administration.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:40 pmRepublicans cannot run an elevator, much less a country.

November 26th, 2008 at 5:45 pmStrangely, I take some comfort from this news. If Chimpy’s gang that couldn’t govern straight actually did something right it would probably constitute one of the signs of the apocalypse.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:54 pmDavidHart Says:
Actually, support for Israel is a function of “the rapture” in which all the Jews die.
Yeah, the same “rapture” that was conceived in the mind of a deranged preacher around 1830 and does not exist in the bible at all, but the idea was picked up and written about by US “Christian Scholars” after 1830.

My local radio station (liberal WCPT/AirAmerica) reported that the Obama family today went to a local food pantry to distribute food much to the surprise of everyone there.
Also, some children at a nearby school noticed the commotion, and captured Obama’s attention — so Obama had the Sec. Ser. arrange an impromptu assembly in the school auditorium for Obama to meet the kids.
I think HuffPo is covering the story now too.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pmIt’s just a nice story about the new first family.
Let’s do the Bush family a favor. Set the damned tree on fire and call it a burning bush…
November 26th, 2008 at 6:09 pmChristmas will be on Jan 20 for me…the gift I have wanted for 8 long years.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:12 pm#12,
November 26th, 2008 at 6:14 pmI also read that he is on film drinking a PISCO, a Peruvian brandy drink. (Maybe he had it Shirley Temple style?)
Although I have also read in more than one place that Bush is drinking pretty heavily these days.
We saw the photo of him drinking a beer (claimed to be non-alcoholic) this summer.
There are numerous stories like this – it doesn’t matter that he is drinking, because most people do, but he boasts of being a self-reformed teetotaler.
People who should know say it is unlikely that he could be the sober individual he claims — he is more a “dry drunk” and he seems to have fallen off the wagon.
Buckie, a lot of us will agree that we don’t mind waiting a month for Christmas to arrive — January 20th will bring America a present.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:16 pmWhat he was drinking at the olympics was not non-alcoholic. He was falling down drunk.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:25 pmChristmas In Jail
Christmas in jail
Christmas in jail
I had a little too much to drink
I ain’t got no bail
Gotta pee in a pail
and I’m spendin’ New Year’s Eve in the clink
I was in the wrong lane
Feelin’ no pain
Zoomed my car to seventy-five
I ran right into
You can guess who
and they say I’m lucky to be alive
Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
They’re singin’ down the street
While everybody’s havin’ Christmas turkey,
they give me bread and water to eat
Christmas in jail
Christmas in jail
I wore my shoes out pacin’ the floor
I got rocks in my head
I wish I was dead
Ain’t gonna drink and drive no more
Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
They’re singin’ down the street
While everybody’s havin’ Christmas turkey,
they give me bread and water to eat

Enquiring minds want to know if O’Reilly will be bloviating about a ‘War on Hanukkah’?
November 26th, 2008 at 6:28 pmQuick! We need to pass this story on to Little Billy O’Reilly for his “War on Hanukkah” special edition!
And, certainly yes, GDumbya has fallen off the wagon. In some sense, I doubt that he was ever fully on the wagon to begin with but it was very apparent that he was sloshed most of the time that he was in Beijing for the Olympics for one thing. Add to that, Darth Cheney and his drunken hunting accident and you have a couple of alcoholics who have run wild for eight years. It’s no wonder this country is in the mess that it’s in.
One comforting thought, however. After January 20, both GDumbya and Darth Cheney will retire to their respective hide-outs and quickly drink themselves into a stupor. That will probably be enough to do Darth Cheney in before next summer. In GDumbya’s case, it will take a little longer.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:28 pmObviously this is part of the Bush administration’s war on Hanukkah.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:34 pmSpeaking of GDumbya, I am reminded of my favorite “turkey pardoning ceremony” picture from a previous year –> http://wonkette.com/images/thumbs/b860e00d80a24619f698a75ef69ed455.jpg
Clinton may have had his Lewinski but GDumbya had his turkey.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:36 pmTom, that is a priceless picture!
November 26th, 2008 at 7:02 pmIn some ways we know this really symbolizes the Bush presidency. I worry though that Bush is losing it and could be a very bitter man in private life. He has to wonder how he could be so inept in almost everything he did? But, he managed to get reelected twice so that says something about Americans as well. Politics of fear, hate and race baiting all worked twice and McCain even tried it and and now he finds out that people have removed the blinders. He can’t help but wonders what happened. You have to wonder how many times Laura has really cussed him out! Read the article in the NYTimes re Bush being a lame duck. It says it all.
November 26th, 2008 at 7:05 pmA few things going on in the world a bit more important than a stupid mistake make by the White House (is there any other kind?)
Iraq Delays Vote on Security Pact

NEW DELHI — Coordinated terror attacks struck the heart of Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, Wednesday night, killing dozens in machine-gun and grenade assaults on at least two five-star hotels, the city’s largest train station, a movie theater and a hospital.

The New York Police Department deployed extra officers and stepped up security measures in the subways and other mass-transit stations on Wednesday after learning of al Qaeda discussions to coordinate a wave of explosions in the subway system over the holidays, the authorities announced.

Damn,
That’s one heck of a Hanukkah tree…
Merry Commerce to every one!

November 26th, 2008 at 9:02 pmGET IT RIGHT!!
The “Christmas” Tree dates from an early PAGAN Germanic tradition.
November 26th, 2008 at 9:27 pmAmericans got what they deserved for having to put up with an idiot to be their chief executive. The whole Bush presidency was predicated on repaying his billionaire and millionaire backers while he preeches about his care for the common people and his protection for Americans and the American homeland.
Check it out that he has been unable to do either nor does he care despite his rhetoric.
In the meanwhile, he has thrown the great American Constition overboard and now not only do the American people suffer but the whole damn world.
How can the Congress which is supposed to be the watch for the people be so cowed and bullied that it can approve anything, just anything that Bush wanted? Are you such a nation of spineless sycophantic corrupt people that you will just go like lemmings where the president go just because he told you so!
November 26th, 2008 at 9:41 pmThe Bush Administration – Insensitive to the End
November 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pmInteresting that this is what TP has reduced itself to.
I will place a wager that TP will not even be around in two to three years.
What will you whine about not that Obama is president and congress virtually has a filibuster proof majority.
The fact that Obama got elected is probably the best thing that could have happened to conservatives. Liberals will quickly run out of things to piss-and-moan about and will no longer be able to blame conservatives on their own misery.
Ohh, what will you blame your pathetic misery on now?
November 26th, 2008 at 11:08 pmWhere’s The Nativity scene?
November 26th, 2008 at 11:26 pmtimmy, you repugs leave us more than enough.
How does it feel to be “different and wrong?”
November 26th, 2008 at 11:29 pmyour conservative compassion overwhelmes me in this Christmas season. Happy holidays….
Have a drink, relax. Life is good and the nightmare has ended.
November 26th, 2008 at 11:34 pmYep gol, it’s interesting that timme has been reduced to this isn’t it?
Being wrong isn’t just a gop goal, it’s a principal.
November 26th, 2008 at 11:36 pmThey should be damned grateful they got an invitation. If they don’t like the Christmas tree then don’t attend. Ballot boxes in Israeli elections have menorrahs on them. Our White House holidays have a Christmas tree in them. Which one is worse?

You are boring us to death with your stupidity
November 27th, 2008 at 3:42 amChristmas themed ?!? The tree is a Winter solstice themed pagan symbol. Doesn’t have much to do with Christianity.
Besides it was a Hanukkah sapling.

They’ll probably issue a bland statement on December 8 for Eid al-Adha as they did last year. But I wouldn’t expect them to commemorate the Night Journey on the 28th.

well, timmeh, if we were to take a page out of your piss n moan playbook, we’d whine about dumbya ruining the country for at least eight more years like you did for clinton. but, unlike you assclowns, we’re more worried about what needs to be done (the future) as oppossed to what cannot be undone (the past).
November 27th, 2008 at 10:18 amThis really doesn’t surprise me in the least.
November 27th, 2008 at 1:26 pmWhere respect for all races and creeds are concerned, this subpar version of the Whitehouse is a sieve!
Isn’t it amazing that our first President who owned slaves and passed them on in his will was better at tolerance, gentility and manners than the 43rd, who will be succeeded by a black man?
