Fox News shut out at Obama press conferences.

Fishbowl DC notes that Fox News has not been allowed to ask a question at any of the four press conferences that Barack Obama has held since winning the election.

Update Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs insists that there's "nothing nefarious" going on. "I would tell them, get a good question and stay tuned," Gibbs said of Fox News.
Update The Washington Times reports that Obama has granted "an unprecedented bit of access for reporters who have grown accustomed to President Bush's infrequent moments taking questions and already surpassing the last four presidents-in-waiting."

  2. Chris L says:

Wonderful. I was hoping we would see this. I was afraid that Obama would be elected, and there would be a lot of rhetoric about “let bygones be bygones.” After all of Fox’s propoganda over the years, they deserve to reap the consequences of their actions.

They deserve it. Faux News selectively edits what they cover, has a reputation for cutting off reasonable guests, and is nothing more than an extension of the conservatives with no credibility. They deserve every ounce of rejection.

  8. hussein toasterhead says:

I hope that the Obama administration will also restore the tradition of giving the first question at every press conference to Helen Thomas.

  9. hussein toasterhead says:

I think the real question here is – why is Fox News even allowed to cover these press conferences? Shouldn’t press credentials be given out to legitimate journalists only?

  10. Badmoodman says:

    – - That’s a change we can believe in.

  11. tom says:

Are you sure that a FoxSnooze reporter was even present at the press conference? I mean, after all, there was an outbreak of high-speed car chases in LA and a raft of new celebrity scandals to dig into. And, of course, they can always rely upon RoverBoy and Little Seanie Insanity to interpret the President-Elect’s statements after-the-fact.

I doubt that they even bothered to send anyone to the press conference.

  12. misshusseinmolly says:

Great! Shut them out! After all, that’s what the current administration has done to Helen Thomas for years. Journalism will be much better served when these tables are turned.

  13. Gregor Samsa says:

I don’t understand why Fox News would even want to be at the press conference.

It’s not as if they pay attention to pesky little details like facts and evidence anyway. Those people truly reject objective reality as we know it, and replace it with their own version.

  14. flex says:

    Yes! Yes! Yes!
Fox News are criminal liars of Wingnut propaganda. They should be exposed and treated as such. They are the mouth piece for the extremist lunatic fringe AND SHOULD BE RIDICULED.

  15. krystalviews says:

If only we had a Bush administration third term: Prison, my thanksgiving would be complete !
I’ll have to settle for a non-fox news world – for now !

  16. misshusseinmolly says:

I suspect this is because Obama likes to use his time efficiently. And answering questions asked by an entity that will broadcast whatever they want regardless of what Obama says, is a definite waste of his time.

  19. SwedishSkinJer says:

Aye, Misshusseinmolly. Fox News has an utter disregard for the “facts” that they are supposed to present to Americans. As long as they can sustain the interest of their deluded viewership with more conservative “trick reporting” and blatant lies, nothing else matters to them. Obama is smart enough to realize this and speak with more reasonable network representatives.

  20. Marie says:

It would be only fair to let the Fox reporters sit around and stew for a while.
They have brought themselves to this point with their own self-serving mischaracterization of Obama’s positions (among other things).
If he never calls on them, it would serve them right, however I expect Obama will give them a nod now and then; but if they sandbag him, or try to embarrass him, as is their wont, they will find themselves out in the cold.

  21. Dumb Fox the Average Golfer says:

I would tell them, get a good question and stay tuned

Funny. Obama’s been elected for 3 weeks already and Fox haven’t yet asked a good questiuon.

  22. Marie says:

Actually, the usually reasonable Ed Henry asked Obama a pretty challenging question today, to which Obama gave a great reply.
Legitimate questions, while they irritate some, are not out of line, and serve the purpose of reflecting Obama’s critics — what is important is the answer, and Obama has shown patience, gravitas, knowledge and magnanimity.
I believe the best way to deal with the reporters who are more interested in themselves than in Obama is to demonstrate leadership as Obama has already shown.

  23. alphainfinityomega says:

But, but, but why would FOX even want to interview or ask questions to someone who “pals around with terrorists”?

  24. OBAMA IMPERSONATORS TO REPLACE ARMISEN ON SNL says:

After Hannity’s hatchet job on Obama, as well as all the other slanderous attacks from the likes of O’Reilly and others, I hope they are shut out for the next 4 years.

  25. SwedishSkinJer says:

Although I do hold a fair portion of the media in contempt for favoritism above a balance between fair criticism and due praise, Faux News is a repeat offender where honesty is concerned. Do they have nothing to offer but their slander and unending lies?

Honestly, they are a cancer in the media world.

  26. WATCH US EXPLODE says:

There’s a reason why Olbermann refers to them as “Fix News” as opposed to “Fox News.” Can we even call them a reputable news organization? I think propaganda machine suits them best.

However, I think Obama will give them a nod every now and then. Although, if the questions asked are repeatedly out of line, or obviously meant to push their agenda, then I can see Obama shutting them out almost entirely.

  27. shoeless says:

What, Carl Cameron hasn’t had a chance to ask Obama if he still beats his wife?

  28. Curlew says:

Keep it up Barack. They’ve had the run of the roost for 8 long years. Its about time that Fixed Noise is relegated to the minor leagues.

  29. Tired of being lied to says:

Obama has high standards. He is calling on all qualified, credible, news organizations.

If someone isn’t being acknowledged, well…..

This is a little OT but NPR is going to allow Bush to have a touchy-feely interview about life after “presidency”. And I’m pretty p!ssed off about it.

That is not surprising at all.

Despite the commonness of such claims, little evidence has ever been presented for a left bias at NPR , and FAIR’s latest study gives it no support. Looking at partisan sources—including government officials, party officials, campaign workers and consultants—Republicans outnumbered Democrats by more than 3 to 2 (61 percent to 38 percent). A majority of Republican sources when the GOP controls the White House and Congress may not be surprising, but Republicans held a similar though slightly smaller edge (57 percent to 42 percent) in 1993, when Clinton was president and Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. And a lively race for the Democratic presidential nomination was beginning to heat up at the time of the 2003 study.

Wait, wait – lemme guess: Juan Williams is doing the interview. Am I right?

  32. jpopphan says:

Faux News actively campaigned against Obama in the election. They did not hide their bias for McCain. They also gave airtime to many people who were telling lies about Obama and his family. Faux News has had a nice run during Dubya’s terms in office but it’s time to pay the piper.

If Faux News were indeed “fair and balanced”, then they would probably not find themselves in the situation of being ignored by the president-elect. It is a new day in America, guys, and it is time to get on board.

    Whew. That felt good. ;o)

  34. A Patriot Acting says:

They may have to change many of the White House telephone numbers, as the tools at FAUX News have had a hot-line to the Administration for too long:

White House secretary, “Mr. Obama, it’s FOX News on the line Sir.”

Obama, “Ah shit…tell them I’m in a meeting”

WH secretary, “It’s Bill O’Reiley, Sir. He wants to know “where his damned iced tea is, mother effer.”

Obama, “Tell him to go Cheney himself, again. And get maintenence up here and tell them to rip that God damned phone out allready!”

  35. MapleStreet says:

    Dumb Question:

Out of all the reporters there, what are the odds that any one reporter gets to ask a question. And then as a lot of smaller papers were snubbed in the past, doesn’t it make sense to give them a chance to ask a question.

I’m just saying that it sounds more like Faux is whining that they aren’t getting more than their fair share any more. No evidence of snubbing (although they would deserve it).

    An overinflated sense of importance

  36. Buckie Boy says:

  37. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Has anyone watched these press conferences? Is he calling on Helen Thomas?

  38. Shayne says:

He’s still in Chicago and I don’t think Helen Thomas is here. He has been calling on many Chicago reporters while he’s here since some of them won’t be moving on to DC.

  39. Buckie Boy says:

Was just thinking, do you think that Sean, Bill, Rush, Ann, Micheal will be invited to have one on one interviews with Obama?

    Hahahaha…hahahaha….hohohoho…buh haw….sides….hurt….can’t…hahahaha… quit…..laughing…….hahahahahahaha…..can’t breath……hahahahahahah!!!!!

Man it feels to good to hurt.

    Gibbs:

There is nothing “nefarious” about not taking questions from Fox.

  41. gus smith says:

I commented on the Obama website, change.gov that I do not want Obama to snub anyone. We have had enough of news coverage directed by the decider. Obama is big enough to face the issues and questions head on. We don’t expect Obama to have all the answers yet, but we expect him to face all the questions. Change is the message, change from the last eight years.

  42. Badger says:

Obama is actually being Kind to Fox News Reporters.

He is very well informed on the issues, he thinks fast on his feet, and he listens carefully to the questions.

If Fox News asks a Dumb or Loaded Question, he is Very Likely to Embarass them with his answer.

  43. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

What’s the matter with this new elitist President elect? Is he too arrogant and high and mighty to allow the lowly, meek, and mild FOX News people to ask a question ahead of all the hundreds of other, obviously liberal elitist media types?

    /snark off

  44. Jackie says:

Once Fox News get’s real Journalist then they will be questions asked. Right now Fox News has drunks, insane people and even drug addicts posing as Journalist. BillO is the insane fake reporter and needs medicial help fast. Beck is a drunk/druggie faking his way on air.

  45. 5th Estate says:

I’ve noted that so far Obama has identified reporter by both their full name and which news organization they represent. rather than calling on “Stretch”.

I hope this continues as that such information is transferred to the WH transcripts which otherwise under Bush have simply attributed questions to “Q”

( the onl;y reporter I’ve ever been really able to identify from such transcripts has been Les Kinsolving, because he asks things that no-one lese gives a damn about)

Hey AbleCluster. I haven’t forgotten your stupid ass just yet. Better keep watching…

  53. kasinca says:

If they continue to ignore them, they will go away. They are nothing but phony noise anyway.

What was that GOP staged organization? Jeff Gannon of Talon News? FAUX was just as phony.
