Lieberman contributed to GOP Senate and House candidates.

The fact that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) supported Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the presidential election is well-known. However, the Washington Post reports today that Lieberman was also supporting at least four Republican lawmakers. His Reuniting our Country PAC gave $5,000 to Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) and another $5,000 to Rep. Peter King (R-NY) in October. He wrote an op-ed in the St. Pioneer Press defending Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN), and publicly endorsed and contributed to the re-election of Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). More recently, Lieberman has said that he fears “America will not survive” if Democrats receive a filibuster-proof majority.

Can we just not talk about this jerk?
He got what he wanted – he coerced the Democrats into it. Can we just ignore him now?

Washington Post reports today that Lieberman was also supporting at least four Republican lawmakers.

In that case, the Dems will make him majority leader.

  3. DidHeJustSayThat says:

    Don’t sweat it, it’s cool!

It would be interesting to know what would cause democrats to grow a backbone.

    Just to know.

  4. Namtillaku says:

The Democrat leaders could care less about this, it’s not even worth reporting.

  5. Jackie says:

Lieberman has and will always be supportive of the GOP. Nothing will change and the voters of his State now know he lied and is taking their money and giving to Republicans.

  6. SP Biloxi says:

“Lieberman contributed to GOP Senate and House candidates.”

Gee, ya think? Zellieberman practically gave his right arm to the clown President and the GOP party. He laid down with the GOP dogs and woke up with fleas.

  7. Max-1 says:

    .

    It’s O.K….
… Obama hugged Joe and forgave him.

Welcome back into the fold, Joe. You can turncoat on the Democrats anytime because the Democrats are desperate enough to be liked that they will accept being stabbed in the back knowing there is no spine there to hit.

  10. stjack says:

what galls me is that the whole reasoning behind keeping him is that he’s with us on a lot of issues. but if we’re *close* to a filibuster-breaker on any particular, doesn’t his comment suggest he’s more willing to work *against* democrats in such a situation rather than *with* us? what *is* the value of lieberman to the democratic party now?

i mean, i can appreciate, if not agree with, the justification. but if we’re not even getting the votes that would justify keeping him, what the hey?!

  11. Thomas M says:

We all know Lieberman is a scoundrel; that is not the issue. The question is why the Dems won’t touch him.

  12. abarts says:

LIEberman could threaten to rape Pelosi with her gavel, and Reid would just send him a sternly worded letter.

  13. Another Joe says:

Yeah – LIE-berman gave them cash and he said that the country wouldn’t survive if the dems took over.

But the dems gave him a free pass on all of this – even the democratic leadership supported him over a REAL democrat that won a primary fair and square.

Who should we really be bloggin’ about – the lying liar that gets away with this crap or the lying liars in the dem party that enable little joe.

Please – enough already. If the dem party backs down on these issues, we have bigger problems than joe.

  14. Marcus Aurelius says:

Lieberman must have pics of someone in a compromising position (with a goat).

Got to be something like that for certain.

  16. SwedishSkinJer says:

Lieberman attacked Obama, implied that he could be a Marxist, and shamelessly served as a mouthpiece of the very party that we progressives hold in contempt. I would ask that the Democrats ensure that Lieberman does not walk away unpunished.

  17. Mr. Evil says:

Like we didn’t already know. Please, TP, limit yourselves to more pertinent issues.

  22. dumbstruck says:

Lieberman reminds me of those sniveling, pathetic, weasely, little characters in the old WWII movies who are licking the Nazis’ boots until the Americans run them out of town. Then he’s leading the parade waving the American flag knowing he’s ready for another taste of German leather if need be…

He’s on the side of whoever will feed him.

  23. the brown acid says:

fairweather friend. How the hell did he get re-elected in the first place?

  24. singe_101 says:

Well when you’re an incumbent and lie about what you’ll do in the next term, you can get a lot of votes (and then break all the promises).

The Democrats in CT did not vote him in, he should be expelled from the party. I would also say he fails to represent anyone in the state other than rabid, first strike Zionists, but I digress.

I don’t think people in Washington understand they’re citizens first and being representatives is their entrusted function, not birthright or inseparable claim. They should be in office to serve temporarily. The people are sovereign, it’s just unfortunate Senate terms are 6 years, this year he would have lost by 40 to Lamont. Of course he would have swept his record under the rug, again.

It’s also tragic how the Iraq War, and the doctrine of military action around it, is seen as just a factor, one of the issues, etc. like it’s transportation funding or banking regulations. No, such an abuse of the Constitution and our society, including the troops, is a dealbreaker if not treason.

  25. eyesopen says:

    Judas Lieberman (R-Tel Aviv)

I don’t worry too much about the rat now.

When my children were of an age to be disciplined with a spanking, it was, of course, out of the question for the spanking to be administered with any real force. It was also ill advised to give it immediately while I was angry. So what I would do is to take them aside and tell them what their offense was and how many licks it had earned for them and then I would tell them that I’d call them when it was time.

The punishment was not in the cursory spanking they would receive with each lick being counted aloud. The punishment was nearly all contained in the wait for the sentence to be executed.

So it is with our wayward reprobate, Joe. The blood could have been allowed to flow, but it was not. Implicit in that condition is that it still may. But the short term appearance is one of charitable mercy, and their is no martyr’s corpse to clean up. As time passes the question of martyrdom becomes moot.

Joe, with the sword hanging over his head, knows that nothing he does from here out will pass unnoticed. Joe knows that it is his option whether to end his career with a chairmanship that may have some influence on events or as a disgraced back bencher. The Dems keep his vote for the length of time that they want it, which will be until they have a clear sixty on their own.

Of, course, this leaves Joe free to do whatever he wants, or whatever he thinks he can get away with. The pain level control is in his hands. I’m betting he wastes himself with it.

  26. jb says:

    That turkey is NOT kosher.

  27. river says:

should never have let him keep his position.

  28. Musk says:

This is starting to get funny. Lieb’s absolutely reeks LOSER!

  29. kasinca says:

Joe may sleep with the GOP but his voting record is with the Democratic Party just as McSame’s voting record is with Dubya. Joe owes the Democratic administration a ton now. Joe must run for re-election in Connecticut someday and the people there hold a hammer.

  30. motorfingaz says:

If the Dems had kicked Lieberman out the wicked traitorou$ media here in America would’ve made him out to be the victim.

It was smart move by Obama to keep him on. It keeps him in the spotlight as the jerk and the pressure on him will likely cause his inflated head to ((((explode))))!
