To mark World AIDS Day, Saddelback Pastor Rick Warren is hosting a Civil Forum on Global Health at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Warren will present President Bush with the first “International Medal of PEACE” from the Global PEACE Coalition in recognition of his unprecedented contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS and other diseases. The “International Medal of PEACE” is given for outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness. The Bush administration reports that its AIDS initiative helped treat two million people this year living with HIV/AIDS.
Rick Warren is giving GDumbya a “Medal of Peace”?
Hell has frozen over!
December 1st, 2008 at 9:53 amIn light of Shrub’s germ-phobia, I wonder if he called the hazmat team to scrub him down after that photo.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:54 amYeah, let’s just make up an award and give it peaceiness name and nobody will remember that bush attacked a nation without provacation. While we’re at it, I’m going to give Jeffery Dahmer the first annual Vegetarian of The Year award for his work in turning people away from eating meat.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:55 amBush deserves a trial and a jail cell, not an award!
December 1st, 2008 at 9:56 amConservatives really do create their own reality, don’t they?
December 1st, 2008 at 9:57 amWhat does it mean when a recipient of this medal is the direct cause of extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness? I guess in Pastor Rick Warren’s warped sense of reality one out of five ain’t too bad.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:58 amReminds me of the quote from Tom Lehrer: “political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Prize”
December 1st, 2008 at 9:58 amWhat?? Really?? An award made up out of thin air.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:58 amThey finally figured out what to make with the slugs people keep dropping into the collection plate.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:58 amWhen I first saw this, I thought that I was reading The Onion.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:06 am…self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness.
I can see why Bush is being awarded this nominal prize…
December 1st, 2008 at 10:07 amThe “International Medal of PEACE” is given for outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness.
Self-centered is certainly apropos, but ‘leadership’ is not a word I associate with Bush.
Rick Warren is all saddled up for peaciness…
December 1st, 2008 at 10:07 amThe Bush administration reports that its AIDS initiative helped treat two million people this year living with HIV/AIDS.
Considering how the Bush “Administration” likes to play with numbers, the real number is probably 2, and they were mostly certainly relatives of his staff…
December 1st, 2008 at 10:08 amThe message I just sent to this “Civil Forum:”
“Exactly how did “shock and awe,” “Uphold the notion of the sacredness of human life?”
While your goals are laudable, you send a horribly mixed message, by giving George Bush a humanitarian medal. This man has killed thousands of innocent civilians. So, what have you to say for them? With this presentation, you appear to sanction killing, while praising the saving of lives. Doesn’t one cancel out the other?
I just have a hard time taking this medal seriously, when you award it to a mass-murderer.”
December 1st, 2008 at 10:09 amIt would be far more significant symbolically if they gave him HIV, not just some fuuk’n medal…
December 1st, 2008 at 10:09 amObviously the Saddleback dolt is being ironical. I am still supposed to believe he didn’t clue grandpa McCain in on the questions at McCain’s only win
December 1st, 2008 at 10:11 amA make believe medal from a make believe religion for a make believe president.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:14 am“…Afterward, President Bush will receive the Fiscal Responsibility Award from Alan Greenspan, and a lifetime membership in MENSA from Sarah Palin.”
Just another day on Planet Bizzaro.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:14 amThe “International Medal of PEACE” is given for outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness.
Well, the invasion of Iraq did NOT alleviated pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, and illiteracy for Iraqis. Nor, do I believe, that an illiterate president should be awarded a medal for alleviating illiteracy.
Self-centered leadership? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The Bush administration defines self-centered.
Spiritual emptiness? Well, totally disregarding what Jesus stood for and taught would be “spiritual emptiness”. False prophets, anyone?
And Warren, whom I used to respect, how’s the war on abortions doing? I mean, we had 6 & 1/2 years of Republican rule. Shouldn’t abortions have ended?
Happy Holidays, everyone!
December 1st, 2008 at 10:16 amNevar Says: A make believe medal from a make believe religion for a make believe president.
Good one!
December 1st, 2008 at 10:16 amIrony, thy name is Booosh.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:18 amMaybe they can give Osama the medal next year because of all his great work to spay and neuter stray pets in the hills of Pakistan???
WHAT A JOKE!!!
Didnt bush already cut the funding for that program ??
December 1st, 2008 at 10:19 amDRxJ Says: And Warren, whom I used to respect, how’s the war on abortions doing? I mean, we had 6 & 1/2 years of Republican rule. Shouldn’t abortions have ended?
Excellent point. In fact, for the first time in any election I’ve ever witnessed, Obama used his pro-choice stance as a strength, and McCain’s anti-abortion stance as a weakness, and the American people agrred, forcing McCain to be defensive on his anti-choice platform. Even the media seemed to follow suit. I thought that was an understated moment of progress for America, to recognize and accpet a woman’s choice as a strength.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:22 amBingo!
December 1st, 2008 at 10:25 amWTF?
December 1st, 2008 at 10:25 amJust make up an award and present it to the chimp in chief — to soothe Bush’s ego? to support Bush’s false assumptions about himself? to embarrass yourself as a well known pastor who has reduced himself to a pandering masseur of Bush’s well deserved bruises?
What a useless award for a useless person.
For HIV-AIDS???
December 1st, 2008 at 10:26 amIsn’t this the administration that refused aid to countries who provided contraception?
The “International Medal of PEACE” is given for outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness.
Translation: Atheism.
Cause we all know that athiests are self-centered, and spiritually empty.
Way to be inclusive, “Reverend” Warren.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:27 amBush can keep the medal on his nightstand, next to Saddam’s pistol.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:29 am“International Medal of PEACE” from the Global PEACE Coalition
But…but, it’s all in CAPS! Not just “peace,” but “PEACE.” That adds far more legitimacy as everyone knows…
Warren is a simply a huckstering poseur and a bush apologist. Any authentic “christian” would denounce this circus and reprimand Poseur Warren for his pandering. Warren’s flock are obviously not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Collectives are the last ones to figure it out….
December 1st, 2008 at 10:29 amI have to wonder about the “purpose” which has “driven” this decision to give this medal to someone who has exacerbated, not alleviated, the noted “five global giants” of international problems.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:30 amPerhaps Warren should read the tenets of the PEACE movement.
Some very unchristian things going on there.
Ahimsa?
Try explaining that to your parishners.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:34 amWhat a freaking travesty. This man doesn’t know the first thing about anything including peace. The group bestowing this “honor” on the Chimp must not have considered the credibility gap in making their selection.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:34 amI would like to award Rick Warren the first ever International Medal of WTF?!?. Awarded to the person who has most contributed to confusion, Orwellianism, and Comedy Central scripts.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:35 amWhy not also give him the “Smartest Person in the World” award too? He is just as qualified for that.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:36 ambarfly Says: Translation: Atheism. Way to be inclusive, “Reverend” Warren.
Fastest growing ‘religious group’ in America and Canada is ‘no religion’. These sorts of people are one reason why.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:36 amGood point, hanshiro. Perhaps PEACE is an anacronym:
Promoting Error ,Averice, and Conflict Everywhere
Bush would deserve this award, in that case.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:37 amNevar Says: A make believe medal from a make believe religion for a make believe president.
Perfect
December 1st, 2008 at 10:37 amIsn’t Massingil giving him an (obvious) award too?
December 1st, 2008 at 10:38 amavarice
**slapping head**
December 1st, 2008 at 10:40 amUnphuckingbelievable,he starts a WAR,displaced millions of people, wounds and cripples our soldiers and not to forget those who gave thier lives and cuts AIDS spending and he gets a Medal for Peace, what the hell is going on here. The man is a warmonger and is still signing legislation that is ruining this country and it`s standing in the world today.January 20th can`t come soon enough.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:47 amTo my way of thinking, awarding Bush any sort of medal associated with the word “peace” is about on a par with awarding Phyllis Schlafy a medal for her efforts on behalf of women’s liberation…
“The International Medal of PEACE is given for outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness.” That’s rich — considering that self-centered leadership has practically been the Bush administration’s stock-in-trade!
December 1st, 2008 at 10:48 amThe Coalition is a network of churches, businesses and individuals cooperating together to solve humanitarian issues through the PEACE Plan, an effort to mobilize 1 billion Christians to Promote reconciliation, Equip servant leaders, Assist the poor, Care for the sick and Educate the next generation.
By referring to atheism as two of “the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness,” they attempt a theological pivot; most of this suffering can be laid at the doorstep of organized religion.
Did they really think we wouldn’t notice?
December 1st, 2008 at 10:53 amBush’s contribution to peace has been the silencing of the voices of kids playing soccer in the street. Dead kids don’t disturb one’s sleep with their incessant laughing and shouting.
How many voices are silent because of the Chimperor? Ahhhh, it’s so peaceful.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:55 amAnybody can stand around giving each other medals. Unless there’s a reason for your medal program to gain credibility, it’s as meaningless as buying yourself a trophy at a shop. Having the first medal go to someone who is among the worst i history on four out of five of your criteria is an easy way to make your medal a laughingstock.
If you’re going to call it a “peace” medal you might not want to give it to people who start wars. See, that’s the opposite. But then again, Republicans do live in opposite-land, where the only way to make sense of their words and actions is to take it as meaning the reverse.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:56 amJesus wept.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:57 amBow bow bow… Hee hee hee hee… what da ya want for nothing? … a rubber biscuit?
December 1st, 2008 at 10:57 am…and I award myself the Greatest Blog Poster Ever for never having no grammatical errors!
December 1st, 2008 at 11:02 am(snark)
I realize many racist and now I see even church pastors are still angry the stealing and lying couldn’t continue the Bush/Cheney mission but his is a joke. A man who killed thousands of innocent Iraqis, kidnapped innocent people all over the world and tortured/raped/killed them. Caused and stole so much of the US Taxpyers money we’re in a recession. He has made the US the most hated/untrusted countrry. This suck up fake award by Warren is an example of how low the church as gone from God and the Bible teaching.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:03 amIs that happening today? The same day Obama is holding a press conference to announce key members of his staff. including HRC as SoS?
Quite the coincidence, I’d say.
“Hey, ‘Mer’ca! Lookit me! I’m over here! I’m gettin’ me a medul! Look, I kin stand on my hands underwater! Hey! ‘Mer’ca! Lookit what I kin do! Yer not looking, ‘Mer’ca! COME ON!”
At what point does this dry-drunk sociopath realize every accolade he’s ever received is a self-promotional sham, that every achievement he’s ever made has been through major acts of assistance from his old man’s cronies or the people pulling his own strings. and he finally finds the shame necessary to blow his brains out? Can’t come soon enough for me.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:06 amRick Warren is a liar. During the Obama-McCain debate that he hosted, he claimed that McCain was in a sound proof room during Obama’s appearance. He and McCain even exchanged a joke about it when McCain came on (”How was the sound proof room?” “I had my ear pressed to the wall.”). In fact, there was never any sound proof room—McCain was in his limo on the way to the studio when Obama was on and could have very well heard it on the radio.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:14 amBush has waged a lifelong struggle against illiteracy, and may learn to read someday soon. Too bad he couldn’t read the August 6, 2001 presidential daily brief.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:19 amSelf-titled ‘War President’ to receive first-ever International Medal of Peace.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:19 amYou have got to f—-in’kidding me!!
Are these the same guys that nominated Rush Limbaugh for the Nobel Peace Prize??
Good Lord!!
December 1st, 2008 at 11:21 am“Conservatives really do create their own reality, don’t they?”
I love this line from an earlier poster!
December 1st, 2008 at 11:25 amHow convient, on National Aids Awareness day and after Bushit stated he would like to be remembered for his work in Aids– whatever it was he supposedly did for Aids.
Those Christians Crack Me UP!
I only wish the MSM had enough balls to puke-up all of this crap and bring our country back into reality.
Ibett
December 1st, 2008 at 11:37 amUm…if “christianity” is so effective….why do they have to create a SPECIFIC coalition specifically for PEACE?
Shouldn’t that be redundant, “prince of peace” and all?
Unless, that’s not what they’re about…
December 1st, 2008 at 11:42 amWhat a joke!!!!!!!! Medal of peace for Bush???????????!!!!!????!!!! What the F……!!!!!!
December 1st, 2008 at 11:59 amHey if Bush can get one, it must be easy or cheap! I want one too!!!!
December 1st, 2008 at 12:01 pmAt peace with what? The aids virus? This is ridiculous.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:03 pmGiving Bush something for PEACE is as bad as naming an airport after Reagan after he destroyed the Air Traffic Control Union – just a giant, arrogant, slap in the face to anybody that is capable of a thread of thought and understanding (which, obviously, excludes those doing the actions and naming of the recipients!).
December 1st, 2008 at 12:05 pmFECKTARDS, all!!!!!
Looks like Dubya is eminently qualified on three of the five criteria: Illiteracy, Self-Centered Leadership and Spiritual Emptiness.
Thank You, Rick Warren, for more of your nothingness.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:06 pmOh MY GOD. What they couldnt posthumously give it to Idi Amin?
December 1st, 2008 at 12:22 pm“Bush to receive first-ever International Medal of Piece of Sh_t Award”
December 1st, 2008 at 12:33 pmTo show the true worthlessness of this award, subsequent nominees should refuse acceptance. After all, of what value can an award like this have, when the first recipient received it on such a hypocritical basis.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:45 pmThis is such a joke. Why doesn’t Bush just give himself a Medal of Freedom times Infinity and be done with it.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:52 pmMerely an attempt to legitimize what’s left of this failed presidency…
December 1st, 2008 at 12:59 pm” awarded for alleviating pandemic disease and extreme poverty ” hmm, well maybe, but WTF ? “illiteracy, self centered leadership and spiritual emptiness ” ?? Is this a joke ? Is he so stupid he cant see the irony of this ? Oh thank God for President elect Obama.
December 1st, 2008 at 1:05 pmTHIS IS THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS, DISGRACEFUL, DIGUSTING AND REPLUSIVE AWARD IN HISTORY. Bush’s first act upon assuming the Presidency was to stop funding to reproductive clinics Worldwide! His insistence on faith based alternatives, including absence programs and especially the use of non-generic drugs, the reduction in condom availability and his lack of funding have contributed to the loss of tens of thousands of lives of mothers and babies. For the Truth read this article! http://archive.salon.com/news/feature/2005/06/02/aids/index.html
December 1st, 2008 at 1:20 pmIf this “award” doesn’t prove the irrelevance of religion in general and Christianity in particular then I’m a Neo-conservative.
December 1st, 2008 at 1:22 pm‘Just goes to prove that one can make one’s religion anything one wants it to be. Kill a hundred thousand Iraqis in pursuit of ones manliness? No problem–one’s god will forgive (or encourage) one (especially if the victims are of the “wrong” religion). Unabashedly poke fun at globgal warming? No problem–one’s god thinks it’s funny, too. Read and live by Leviticus while disregarding the rest of the Bible? No problem–”And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.”
Give out an award to a Christian who would feel more at home during the Tenth Century Crusades, the Reformation, the Inquisition and the era of the Conquistadors? No problem! After all, the Christian god is of the forgiving sort . . .
PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

Bush would deserve this award, in that case.
How about:
Pandering to
Evangelical
Anglo-Saxon
Christianistas
Everywhere
I may not know my bible very well, but I’m fairly certain that “Blessed are the War Profiteers” wasn’t one of the Beatitudes.
No wonder Jesus wept.
PEACE (yes, the word, just as it appears)
December 1st, 2008 at 1:33 pmThis cannot even be real. I have really gone off the deep end AGAIN!! How can anyone think of honoring this man with ANYTHING?? He has caused the death of hundreds of thousands of people and has caused so much misery in the world. Surely I am not a well man. I need to get off this ride. It’s making me sicker than I ever thought possible!
December 1st, 2008 at 1:41 pmOT:
I went to a bed and breakfast this weekend for a little getaway and I was walking with friends on the beach and I noticed this little girl with a play machete.
nice “peaceful” gift.
December 1st, 2008 at 1:43 pmI’m very happy that so two million people received treatment for Aids. I also recall that Bush, as a condition of giving the money, forbade distributing condoms or instructing people in their use as a condition of organizations receiving the money. How many more people have Aids this year because of the Great Ideologues confused religious views? How many more people NEED medicine for Aids this year because his largess came only with the condition of stupidity? I hope that we never have another president who makes national and international decisions based entirely on his personal religious beliefs. What a lot of suffering the world has known because of George W. Bush’s religious beliefs.
December 1st, 2008 at 1:44 pmshe was with her parents. (it looked like it)
December 1st, 2008 at 1:44 pmBush to receive first-ever International Medal of Peace.»
Is this a joke? The torturer bring em on guy associated with peace?
December 1st, 2008 at 2:01 pmI am terribly, terribly confused on a few issues:
What global standing does Saddleback Church have to deliver a “global” award ?
Didn’t Bush do a slight of hand act with funds to be used against AIDS ? Which seems to negate their statements.
While I’m much against AIDS, aren’t they confusing AIDS and PEACE ?
Didn’t Bush introduce quite a bit of poverty and disease in Iraq by bombing it into the stone ages ?
Isn’t starting wars, de facto, somewhat different than “PEACE” ?
December 1st, 2008 at 2:02 pmThe irony of it all is after reading some of the most succint and thoughtful posts about this subject from the posters, we see who really does and does not deserve a medal.
Rick Warren and his band of merry christians has once again sunk to a new low….giving this murderous moron a medal for screwing the country and the world.
December 1st, 2008 at 2:19 pmMy Mother’s Altered Reality Universe. My mom started attending Saddleback Church a couple of years ago, and she has turned into a mean, judgmental, narrow-minded, hate-filled bigot.
December 1st, 2008 at 2:39 pmIs that really what Christianity has become?
Well, Bush did bring more financial assistance to Africa.
If “peace” you mean bringing the world together to support an inspirational presidential candidate (Obama), then yes Bush deserves an award.
December 1st, 2008 at 3:04 pmAnything like those awards that Sun Myung Moon hands out?
Cheers,

in a word:
Yes.
December 1st, 2008 at 4:56 pmso confused over this one I don’t know whether to scratch my ass or wipe my head!
Let’s give out some other well-deserved awards while we’re at it: Scooter Libby for best protector of national security; Duke Cunningham for the senator upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct; Jack Abramoff for outstanding contributions to the cause of Native Americans. . . . All would be just as rational as the award given to The Moron.
December 1st, 2008 at 5:04 pmThe purpose of this award is really the self-advancement of Warren. He positions himself as the one who hands out recognition and approval.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:01 pm2 words: “constant gardener”…its a movie/book , read it or watch it sometime. meethinks its very likely this AIDS “initiative” means something like tax breaks for big pharma for giving away thier expired drugs to 3rd world countries, OR, possibly worse, testing experimental vaccines on patients who won’t ever know the meaning of “informed consent”. nothing is free in this world, and what is publicly portrayed as charity is often a wolf in sheeps clothing in this world..
December 1st, 2008 at 6:03 pmAnd Rev Warren will receive the well tarnished “Medal of Freedom” from Dubya.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:04 pmcan someone form an organization with a fancy sounding name to award Rick Warren the first ever International Medal of Christian Hipocracy? Does waging pre-emptive war under false pretenses lose you any points in Rick’s book?
December 1st, 2008 at 6:08 pmThis is like giving Cheney a medal for hunting.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:25 pmWe can only assume that the “Global PEACE Coalition” is a Zionist front group. Such trash.

December 1st, 2008 at 9:29 pmMaybe they really said that he tends to mettle with his peas. If they are right, who wants to receive the second medal?
December 1st, 2008 at 11:19 pmPEACE is an acronym and is DECEPTIVE, just like BUSH. Read about it here: http://www.thepeaceplan.com. P.E.A.C.E stands for Promote reconciliation, Equip leaders, Assist the poor, Care for the sick, Educate for the next generation. “PASTOR” Warren points out, this award is being given for Mr. Bush’s contribution to the “fight against HIV/AIDS and other diseases,” not specifically for the cause of peace. The PRESS almost uniformly fails to clarify this horrible and deceptive acronym and even more deceptive award.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:05 amDoes this have anything to do with Rick Warren and George Bush’s collaboration , The Purpose Driven Death?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:21 amAt least it wasn’t that marxist, socialist Barack Obama… God I am so worried about this country with this dipsh*t coming into office…
December 3rd, 2008 at 12:27 pmYou folks are amazing. I doubt if any of you could have done half as well as this man, considering the challenges he faced. He came into office in the midst of the Clinton recession/DotCom bust, then came the 911 attacks. He then got his tax cuts through and for the next 6 years presided over the strongest U.S. economy ever. After the Dems got control of the government in 2006, it only took a year for them to crash the economy, and now the un-thinking blame Bush for it. Back to the topic, NO government in the world has done more to fight HIV/AIDS world wide than the Bush administration. NO government has been the champion of the people of Darfur, Sudan except the Bush administration. Do some research. I don’t agree with all his policies either, and I am not a Republican, but give credit where it is due. He deserves this award.
December 5th, 2008 at 1:02 pmJim
Funny how you never saw or heard or read much about this from most of the news agencies. Political POV’s aside, when someone takes an active role in saving human lives, I don’t care whether or not they get the award, so long as their act doesn’t go unnoticed, because everyday people can make a difference not just Presidents.
December 31st, 2008 at 3:26 am
