Following President-elect Obama’s morning press conference announcing his national security team, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews praised the diversity of Obama’s cabinet, comparing it to a Benetton ad. “Clearly it has the picture we’re looking for, the many faces of Benatton or whatever you want to call it,” Matthews said. Watch it:
Is Matthews right? You be the judge:

I don’t see an Asian in the picture. Benetton usually has at least one Asian.
December 1st, 2008 at 5:47 pmThat’s dumb.
I guess Tweety is getting back to “normal.”
December 1st, 2008 at 5:55 pmand they’re not in a big huggy pile. can we have a big bipartisan pile-on? just don’t tell lieberman.
December 1st, 2008 at 5:56 pmWe now have the parameters of Tweety’s visualization skills.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:11 pmOh man; is it just me, or is that embarrassing??
December 1st, 2008 at 6:14 pmIt seems to me Matthews was actually trying to compliment the choices Obama is making.
Although I am not too sure about the implication that these choices were made mainly based on skin color or ethnic background.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:16 pm“Benetton”?
Cripes, can these clowns get outa the 80s finally?
December 1st, 2008 at 6:18 pmI’m sure he was making an attempt at a compliment, it is just a sad commentary on the intelligence of this particular talking head that he can’t see beyond gender and race.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:19 pmTime’s Joe Klein praised President Bush’s “Benetton-Ad Presidency” for having “the most diverse Cabinet in American history.”
What’s diverse about a cabinet full of neocons?
December 1st, 2008 at 6:19 pmBesides all that, hasn’t Benetton been implicated in war profiteering scandals?
December 1st, 2008 at 6:22 pmHere we go, take your pick…

Whoa! Watch what y’all are saying about our possibly next senator from here in Pennsylvania.
Seriously, I have to wonder about this state sometimes. Any idiot could have beaten Rick “foamy” Santorum in 2006, and Bob “no stem cells, sorry” Casey proved that. Now Matthews for US Senate?
PEACE
December 1st, 2008 at 6:26 pmLet’s not be so quick to say of Obama’s coalescing Cabinet, ”It’s Full of Stars!” Let’s also be especially circumspect of his nominating Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:29 pmReason No. 4,815,162,342 Tweety will NOT succeed in any effort to capture a Senate seat in Pennsylvania. The man has hand-delivered thousands–nay, millions–of soundbites from Hardball to his political opponents.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:30 pmLike Ralph above says, Benetton ads are SO Eighties. Despite being out-of-it, what a superficial insult. Matthews is boggled at not seeing all old white men?
“Wow, look at those different skin colors”. Pathetic.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:30 pm#11 Ms. Mom,
Can you imagine Senator Tweety Bird going on and on all day long on CSPAN2…as a clueless RePugniScum…and showing up on every TV show all over the cable and broadcast as a US Senator…yeeechk! Puuuck!!
December 1st, 2008 at 6:31 pmDixie, if Matthews runs, he runs as a Democrat. Which blew me away when I heard.
PEACE
December 1st, 2008 at 6:33 pmIf Tweety runs for that Senate seat, they’ll have to put a spit guard on the Senate lectern. Ick.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:50 pmOh man, now I am gonna have all kinds of bad 80’s flashbacks. How many colors of those stupid sweatshop scarves did they have again?
December 1st, 2008 at 7:07 pmGet over it you old fart. If you ain’t talking about some long ago election or war you talk about long ago ads/media. Try out for Jeopardy, already. tweedy is Silly as hell. he wants to run for office HAHAHAHAHA as a dem, HAHAHAHAHAHA
President-ELECT Obama cabinet looks like the sane face of the US. Get with that.
December 1st, 2008 at 7:20 pmshoeless Says:
Time’s Joe Klein praised President Bush’s “Benetton-Ad Presidency” for having “the most diverse Cabinet in American history.”
What’s diverse about a cabinet full of neocons?
Jolly good one mate.
December 1st, 2008 at 7:22 pmBah hahahaha! Funny post. ;-)
December 1st, 2008 at 8:10 pmTweety just can’t come face with reality that we have the first African-American President. Instead of being an intelligent journalist and given intelligent questions, he has to feed us the stereotype, clownish, and non-sense news and comments about President-elect Obama and his selected cabinet members. Not one word from Tweety on the current Booze and Blow-in-chief’s incompentent cabinet members for the past 7 1/2 years. Tweety Matthews sounds more and more nauseating on his TV shows.
December 1st, 2008 at 8:14 pmSo what? They’re contractually obligated to talk off-the-cuff and fill up airtime between commercials. If Barack had chosen all white men, they’d comment on that, too. “It’s like a (now-defunct) WaMu banker ad, with a black guy ordering them around!”
December 1st, 2008 at 10:36 pmLooks more like the Many Faces of AIPAC to me.
