Palin Recycles Old Stump Speech In Georgia, But Replaces ‘McCain’ With ‘Chambliss’

palin-mccain-crazy.jpgToday, Gov. Sarah Palin traveled to Georgia to campaign for Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R), who faces a tough runoff election tomorrow against Democratic challenger Jim Martin. In the first of four stops today, in Augusta, Palin told the crowd, “The eyes of the nation are on you,” adding, “The stakes are so high” and that “America is counting on you.”

Yet despite Palin’s insistence on the importance of the Chambliss race, she apparently couldn’t bring herself to write a new stump speech. Instead, she recycled many of her favorite lines from this fall, substituting Chambliss’ name for Sen. John McCain’s:

Palin On Washington:

On CHAMBLISS: Too many politicians forgetting why they were sent to Washington. Well, Saxby has not forgotten and he has not forgotten who it is that he is serving. He is serving you, residents of Georgia, and he is serving all of America. He knows we must put government back on your side.

On McCAIN: In Alaska, we went back to basics. We put government back on the side of the people, and John and I will use the same approach to reform Washington in our administration. We will never forget the people who hired us. We will be there to work for you, the good people of America.

Palin On Government Working:

On CHAMBLISS: He knows you do not have to feel you are working for your government, but your government must be working for you.

On McCAIN: John and I…we don’t think you should be working for government; we think government should work for you.

Palin On Independence:

On CHAMBLISS: Saxby has not forgotten why he was sent to Washington. He has stayed true to his principles. Today those principles are needed more than ever. Senator Chambliss, he has such a strong, independent spirit. And that’s another reason I really like him.

On McCAIN: John McCain and I, what we represent is that maverick independent spirit that will not let the self-dealing and excessive partisanship get in the way of what’s right.

Palin On Herds:

On CHAMBLISS: Saxby doesn’t just run with the Washington herd.

On McCAIN: John is his own man. He doesn’t run with the Washington herd.

Yesterday, Palin’s home-state newspaper, the Anchorage Daily News, sharply criticized her for campaigning for Chambliss, citing Chambliss’ dirty campaign tactics against renowned war hero Max Cleland in 2002. “As a justifiably proud military mom, she might ask herself why she is using her conservative star power to support such a reprehensible Republican chicken hawk,” the editorial said.

Palin is an incompetent tool of the machine. She is an extremist where social conservatism is concerned, represents an outdated "hawkish" stance on foreign policy, and was dishonest about her opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere. Let her fade into political obscurity.

OY, those speeches worked so well the first time around... NOT.

Maybe she likes to see 'em get big and fat then cut their heads off and bleed 'em in a bloody vat.
That's the only thing that I can figure; that or no political morality.

Max Cleland is an American hero.

Chambliss is a racist good 'ol boy that used the Rove machine to warp, distort & lie about Max, a triple amputee. It may have been the dirtiest campaign in the last century.

I don't know much about Martin, but I know enough about Chambliss to encourage any Georgian here to vote for Martin.

I think she should be the front and center face of the Republican Party as it falls apart at the seams. It will be a true winner to have her represent the Republican Party, winner for the Democrats that is.

  10. paleolib Says:

Be nice. She doesn't know that many words to begin with. Besides, given her inability to speak in anything resembling coherent sentences the audience presumably isn't listening to the text anyway.

    Yea,
a speech pattern that matches her audience, especially in the backwoods of Georgia.

  12. misshusseinmolly Says:

Hmmm...has she accused Jim Martin of "palling around with terrorists"? Has she told her audiences they are "real Americans"? Has she accused Jim Martin of being a socialist? A traitor? Not patriotic enough?

That will probably be next. Once you memorize a stump speech, you want to get as much mileage from it as you can.

I'm sure that there are 'traditional' Republicans who cringe everytime they see Palin's name attached to anything Republican. But, in all honesty, I have no sympathy whatsoever for those 'Republicans' that have allowed their party to be taken over by the neo-cons and the Religious Right.

Because she really isn't a leader. She's a follower, and still takes orders from the GOP machine. It's the GOP machine who wants Chambliss to win in the worst way, and they're pulling out all the stops (including their wind-up doll) to do it.

I just hope nobody asks Sarah what it is a Senator actually does -- although that might be a good revealing thing for the voters if she demonstrates as much knowledge of a Senator's role as she knows about what a VP does.

I'm not going to criticize Palin that much for this one. Obama also recycled parts of his speeches.

The only difference is Obama's speeches, whether recycled or new, are infinitely times better than Palin's. Obama's speeches are definitely worth listening over and over again.

    Palin On Herds:
On CHAMBLISS: Saxby doesn’t just run with the Washington herd.
On McCAIN: John is his own man. He doesn’t run with the Washington herd.

Thus becoming their own little herd.

All three soon to be turned out to pasture.

  21. Tired Of Fighting Says:

“As a justifiably proud military mom, stop!!

That right there should have been pause for cause for Mrs. Palin to NOT support a man who would denigrate the service of a man who gave his body up in combat. But what do you expect from a group of people who wore Purple Heart Band-Aids during their convention in 2004. As a three (3) time Purple Heart recipient, and the leader of Men who also received this award who lived and died, Saxby Chambliss and the "herd" are a disgrace to ALL of wear or have worn the uniform, and Mrs. Palin will find out how it feels if or when her son gets his.

Do I sound "bitter" I damn sure do, I am tired of the Chicken Hawk Brigade. Period. Mrs. Palin you should be ashamed to be associated with someone who would disgrace a man like Max Cleland and Tammy Duckworth all because of politics, POLITICS!!!

And you wonder why the Repuppetcans are on the way out, we're ALL tired.

  24. BrianFL Says:

Thank you John McCain and the McCain campaign for setting the Republicans up to fail in 2012. Bush/Cheney/Rove set them up to fail in 2006 and 2008, but 2012 will have more to do with McCain picking Sarah Palin. She is now the de facto leader of their party whether the "Wall Street Republicans" like it or not. McCain could have set up someone like Romney or Pawlenty to be the next generation GOP leader, but instead he picked Palin, making her the GOP's most famous name and front-runner for 2012.

It almost makes you wonder if the Palin pick was a subconscious F-You to the Republican establishment by McCain.

  25. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

Yet despite Palin’s insistence on the importance of the Chambliss race, she apparently couldn’t bring herself to write a new stump speech.

I don't think that Sarah Palin has ever in her life written a speech. If she had, it would have been incomprehensible. I think that one of the McCain campaign speech writers simply took an old speech and put in Chambliss' name where McCains' name was previously. We can only hope that the recycled campaign speech works as well for Chambliss as it did for McCain.

  38. gummitch Says:

If Chambliss doesn't run with the herd, does that make him a maverick? Hmmm, better check with VoteSmart . . .

Senator C. Saxby Chambliss repeatedly refused to provide any responses to citizens on the issues through the 2008 Political Courage Test when asked to do so by national leaders of the political parties, prominent members of the media, Project Vote Smart President Richard Kimball, and Project Vote Smart staff.

    Huh.

Oh, here's a sample of interest group ratings:

Fall 2004 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Conservative Index - The John Birch Society 90 percent in Fall 2004.

2007-2008 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Christian Coalition 100 percent in 2007-2008.

2007-2008 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Concerned Women for America 93 percent in 2007-2008.

2007-2008 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Conservative Index - The John Birch Society 52 percent in 2007-2008.

2007 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the American Conservative Union 92 percent in 2007.

2007 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Americans for Prosperity 91 percent in 2007.

2007 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Conservative Index - The John Birch Society 70 percent in the Spring 2007 session.

2007 Senator Chambliss supported the interests of the Eagle Forum 94 percent in 2007.

You don't get much more mavericky than that.

  56. tarazan Says:

It is naive to think that Sarah Palin is really campaigning for Chambliss. She is in fact campaigning for herself to be the next president.
Her plan is to stay in the limelight until she announces her bid for presidency in 18 to 20 months from now.
She saw a nice opportunity to go to Georgia, and Chambliss is looking for any help he can get.
It worked for both of them.!

  59. Steaming Pile Says:

@EugeneDebs - I second that. Maybe if we stop reporting, she'll go away. Or maybe she'll double down on the crazy talk.

I happen to believe she's a useful idiot, same as George W. Bush. Chambliss will win with or without her, but she'll claim credit and that will further embolden her. I think it will take a truly devastating defeat in Iowa and New Hampshire in 2012 to put her over the shark once and for all.

As soon as she stops being useful, she will find herself under the nearest bus. You can bet on it. No more Fox Noise, no more Charlie Gibson, no more nothing. I bet there are lots and lots of Republicans out there right now who are cringing at the idea of Sarah Palin once again running for any office that involves moving to Washington, and really, really wishes she'd keep her ass in Alaska where nobody heard of her before John McCain thought disgruntled Clinton voters might shift allegiance to anyone with a vagina, even if she didn't have anything of value between her ears.

At least Hillary Clinton is smart. Can you imagine Palin at the State Department? (shudder)
