The New York Times reports today that shortly after 9/11, the White House met several times with “a delegation of high-level media executives, including the heads of every major studio,” in order to discuss how “the entertainment industry could play a part in improving the image of the United States overseas.” Karl Rove attended at least one of the meetings. One of the participants in the meetings, former RIAA chairwoman Hilary Rosen says Rove “put pressure” on them to “produce propaganda”:
Hilary Rosen, the former chairwoman of the Recording Industry Association of America, who was also present at the post-9/11 meetings, said that Mr. Rove and other White House officials were looking for the kind of support Hollywood gave the United States during World War II.
“They wanted the music industry, the movie industry, the TV industry to produce propaganda,” she said. “Rove was putting a lot of pressure on us.”
Hey, I know a movie for Rove…
“HANG ‘em HIGH”

December 1st, 2008 at 9:06 pmIs there anything that this sneaky fart didn’t get his chubby hands into?
December 1st, 2008 at 9:08 pmI lived in Washington DC at the time of 9/11 and remember seeing a lot of dogs wagging all over the city afterward. Now I know where they originated.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:10 pmHowever well intentioned such an idea might be, there is no way that the entertainment industry could pitch in the way that they did back in WWII.
Mainly because in the years since then, people like Rove have successfully demonized Hollywood as unworthy to participate in national or international politics.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:18 pmAnd it sure worked, didn’t it? I can’t think of a movie that had quite the same impact on me as did Farenheit 911. But I’m guessing Michael Moore wasn’t one of his target moguls.
Rove is a pig-eyed sack of sh!t and I have as much use for him as I do Palin.
‘nough said.
PEACE
December 1st, 2008 at 9:19 pmAfter 9/11, Rove pressured the entertainment industry ‘to produce propaganda.’»
– - Rove lobbied Miramax and for his troubles they ended up releasing Fahrenheit 9/11.
Mission Accomplished, Turdblossom.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:28 pmreally? no wait, REALLY? isn’t that a bit far-fetched??? i mean really now… hollywood and the CIA working… together?
karl rove is the biggest “conspiracy theorist” of them all.
pfffft.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:44 pmFolks – 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB!
That’s why they needed to do everything they could to “catapult the propaganda.”
But don’t take my word for it – check out what one of the original “dream team” member from 2000, Morgan Reynolds, has to say about bush, cheney, rummy, and the rest of that criminal cabal.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:48 pmreynolds posits something to the effect of holograms crashing into the towers and space beams melting the vertical supports. reynolds supports blatant disinformation.
the 9/11 truth movement has distanced itself from crackpot speculation anti-science “theories” and has focused on forensic evidence; as well as pointing out the blatant omissions, distortions, and contradictions embedded in the official narrative. 9/11 truth is about evidence, not holograms and “tv fakery.”
December 1st, 2008 at 10:02 pmAt the same time that Rove and the corrupt Bush White House were pressuring Hollywood and the music industry to produce propaganda, someone sent lethal anthrax through the mail to two progressive/liberal U.S. Senators, after which there were tens of thousands of copy-cat mailings involving non-lethal powder, but still just as much an act of terrorism, and also targeting progressive/liberal individuals and organizations around the country.
And the U.S. news media, by and large, and unlike the tepid response to Rove/Bush pressure by Hollywood and the recording industry, followed Rovian/Bushian orders, pumping up the volume (and the fear) to prepare (roll out a new product) for Bush launching an invasion of Iraq…while at the same time the news media downplayed (by not reporting) on the true extent of the right-wing terrorist mailings occurring in the United States.
In December 2001, I saw a CNN news blurb scrolling bottom-screen that stated that the FBI was conducting 15,000+ investigations into terrorist mailings…just over two months following the initial lethal terrorist mailing.
This CNN news blurb ran for only about 15 to 20 minutes, then disappeared. Yanked, on orders of someone in the Bush administration?
Has anyone since seen anything reported by our news media (or the Bush administration) on how many total terrorist mailing incidents there have been over the past seven years? I thought not.
So, while the U.S. news media has served as a propaganda outlet, by and large, for the most corrupt administration in American history, they’ve also suppressed information concerning domestic terrorist events that number in the hundreds of thousands by now.
Way to go U.S. news media. By and large, you’re giving the old Soviet Union’s Pravda and Tass a run for their totalitarian money.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:08 pmWhat kind of pressure, seriously????
A power-fart to the face at point-blank range followed by a flying-ham-sandwich courtesy of the porcine Turdblossom.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pmHad the Bush Administration been honest with the American people from the beginning, they would not have needed Hollywood to produce propaganda on their behalf.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:19 pmWhat! Rove trying to influence people to see reality through his eyes? I can’t believe it!
“That’s not the way the world really works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act we create our own reality.” – Karl Rove
December 1st, 2008 at 10:29 pmoh help. help get this creep in dicted. he’s been begging for it.
December 1st, 2008 at 10:30 pmI want to criticize, but the reality is that this has happened during every period of conflict, hence the war cartoons of Bugs Bunny. Some media chunks resist, others don’t.
Rove is a dispicable waste of flesh, and this is one more bit of proof, but I don’t see anything unique in this at all.

December 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pmThis doesn’t surprise me. Karl Rove = Joseph Goebbels.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:16 pmHilary Rosen, the former chairwoman of the Recording Industry Association of America, who was also present at the post-9/11 meetings, said that Mr. Rove and other White House officials were looking for the kind of support Hollywood gave the United States during World War II.
“They wanted the music industry, the movie industry, the TV industry to produce propaganda,” she said. “Rove was putting a lot of pressure on us.”
************************************************
The question which leaps unavoidably to my mind is…why did they wait so long to tell us this? While the entertainment industry might have shown some resistance to this pressure from the Bush administration — which I have no doubt was real, given that other media figures have likewise reported being subjected to similar pressure whether directly from the Bush administration or indirectly from others acting on its behalf — they also chose to keep this a secret from the American people until after the election was over.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:21 pmWhat about a remake of “A Weekend at Bernie’s” set at Gitmo ?
December 1st, 2008 at 11:26 pmIs this why movies have sucked since 9/11?
December 1st, 2008 at 11:36 pmAnyone who is surprised by this has been asleep for eight years. More evidence of the legacy of filth.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:42 pmIt worked very well for 7 years Americans had no idea the lies were coming from every side. We see the results of today on how well the Bush Administration tricked people.
December 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pmkarl is now returning
to his former career as a “fluffer”.
^
that’s entertainment!

December 2nd, 2008 at 12:03 amWhy didn’t those being pressured speak out at the time? So many reasons the 2nd bu$hco term could have been prevented…
December 2nd, 2008 at 12:18 amMore proof that The Republican Crime Syndicate have been in charge for eight years.
Now America unfortunately is reaping the whirlwinds!!!
December 2nd, 2008 at 12:42 amA lot of people watch “24″ and that is propaganda. They believe torture works just from that fiction they think is real.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 am.
We’ve seen this before …
“See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda.”
—George W. Bush
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
- Joseph Goebbels
“Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.”
- Adolf Hitler
“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
- Hermann Goering
… Now how is it supposed to play out?
.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:38 amWasn’t a big-wig media anchor targeted with anthrax? And the National Enquirer?
December 2nd, 2008 at 3:09 amKarl Rove is and always will be the best little American Taliban member of all time. His constant catapulting of the propaganda has made him a star in his own right with al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:22 amReynolds does not speculate anything – in fact, he is cautious about any speculation.
His points are:
(1). He worked directly with these people and they are criminally minded and as corrupt as they come – capable of anything.
(2). The official story does not make any sense and cannot stand up to scrutiny.
Rather than sticking his neck out on speculative alternative, Morgan Reynolds promotes the fact that if any piece of the 9/11 lies cannot stand up to scrutiny, the entire lie falls down.
Americans need to know the truth.
The civil litigation process and the resulting “discovery” would provide an opportunity to show the inconsistencies in the lies of the bush administration.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:40 amFor an explanation of what drives Karl Rove, I suggest the book, Evil Genes, by Barbara Oakley. In it she gives a scientific reason for the neurological disorder behind borderline personality disorder and narcissism, both of which are responsible for what laymen could easily call evil behavior.
Those at the top of their professions and those scrambling up the ladder often have this gene that dictates a need for power and money and gives them the ability to attain them. They use as their means whatever is at hand: religion, business, or politics, for example. Child and spousal abuse also frequently come from such a disorder of the brain. I would add that pedophilia could be included.
Then there is psychopathy, which is higher on the scale of malevolent behavior.
Oakley also explained gas lighting, which is a method of attempting to slowly drive another insane. As one might guess, the victim seldom is believed and the perpetrator seldom suspected. How often have we seen such a victim dispensed with, never to be heard of again in any meaningful way, and the perpetrator moving to greater heights and often applauded?
In my opinion, it is plain to see federal administrations, as well as those at a lower level, are filled with persons with one of these disorders. We certainly see gas lighting as a method of punishing whistle blowers or ones who are not mindlessly following the leader.
So now we have it. Rove is the exemplar par excellence of one with gene-driven behaviors that our society labels criminal and imprisons for the safety of all. And why don’t we? Likely because a majority of those around him have the same gene.
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:39 ammorgan and his band of no-planers. blatant disinformation.
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 amThe simple fact that the RIAA was capable of feeling pressure of this sort from a White House politician should scare the hell out of Americans. Why were the folks in this meeting not able to simply say, “No thanks!” to Rove and leave the room? Were there tangible repercussions to refusing BushCo’s request? If so, isn’t that a fundamental problem in our form of government?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:10 amOK…. can we please, PLEASE, do something about Karl Rove? I mean, the GOP impeached Clinton over a little hanky panky in the Oval Office. Can’t we come up with SOMETHING on Rove that would put him down for good?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:21 amOf course they had to “catapault the propaganda” — they were selling Americans a bill of goods and they needed every available outlet to help them pull it off.
Was Sutherland’s “24″ part of that effort?
How long will we have to endure hearing from Karl Rove.
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:06 am911=Inside Job
December 2nd, 2008 at 2:06 pmNice of the New York Times to comply with Rove’s wishes…..
December 2nd, 2008 at 5:46 pmTO “We are change”,
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:35 pmthe only people and or group you should distance yourselves are the ones and few who are saying things like “911 was a zionist job” etc…I don’t know what kind of bullshit you are trying to prove, or what kind of scientific evidence you may have?? But try pulling your asses out of Alex Jones’s snow-hole for a few minutes and quit sucking on his limp ass dick. It is unfortunate, that you have lost many supporters because accusing everyone who believes in “alternative theories”, aka , other than the “Loose Change” that’s become “Gospel”..is certainly damning in itself. One of my favorite movies that I believe Karl Rove would get a kick out of is September Clues.
I find artistic expression very sexy. However one comes to finding the truth, is fine with me. If it’s through holograms, space weapons, TV fakery, and missiles.
All this adds up to 9/11 being an inside job.
