A new poll commissioned by the LGBT advocacy group GLAAD found encouraging news for supporters of gay rights:
– Three-quarters of U.S. adults (75%) favor either marriage or domestic partnerships/civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. Only about two in 10 (22%) say gay and lesbian couples should have no legal recognition.
– Almost two-thirds (64%) of U.S. adults favor allowing openly gay military personnel to serve in the armed forces.
– About six in 10 (63%) U.S. adults favor expanding hate crime laws to cover gay and transgender people.
– Nearly seven out of 10 U.S. adults (69%) oppose laws that would ban qualified gay and lesbian couples from adopting children.
Though conservatives criticized the poll for being funded by an advocacy organization, some of its results are actually more tempered than other polls. For example, a Washington Post poll in July found that a full 75 percent of Americans support gays serving openly in the military.
That’s because most people are more liberal than they would like to admit.
ADMIT IT!! Liberal is not a dirty word.

Liberal:
a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
Nope, not a dirty word at all…..
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:03 pmI predict the trolls will be here soon to claim that the poll is slanted. However, Harris is a pretty fair, independent organization and can be trusted to put forth a fair poll, regardless of who commissioned it.
These numbers really aren’t all that surprising. I have seen similar numbers crop up in other polls.
So why then, do ballot initiatives defining marriage as between a man and a woman always pass? If the recent Prop 8 in California is any indication, I would imagine that quite a few of the 75% who claim to support some kind of legal recognition for gay couples tend to get swayed by the propaganda coming from the right. They believe the myths about how “homosexuality will be taught in schools”, “clergymen will be required to marry gays”, etc., etc.
The right won’t be able to maintain the fear forever, though. There will come a day when not only are gay couples given all the marital rights straight couples enjoy (as well as the burdens), but reasonable people everywhere will wonder why there was ever a fuss about it at all.
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:04 pmUsually when Daryll comes into a gay thread, he will condemn the person who’s the subject of the thread — a judge, a politician, a gay rights advocate — and claim that person is going to h*ll for his position (unless, of course, the person is taking a stand AGAINST gay rights, in which case that person is exalted).
But who will Daryll condemn here? The entire Harris organization? For reporting the results of their poll? Stay tuned.
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:08 pmWith the majority of Americans in favor of all equal rights for gays, why do these issues continue to get beaten down?

Daryll seems to have missed alot of “teh gay” threads lately. Maybe he is having trouble getting it up any more since Huckabee didn’t actually get elected by God. His posts, when he does post, just don’t have the same enthusiasm any more since the election, heh.
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:14 pmForget Daryll, it is bit who will appear to discuss choice which is something bit doesn’t seem to like
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:14 pmIdiot conservatives “criticize” anything that doesn’t reflect the stupid shite they already believe.
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:22 pmWell – I’m sure that by tomorrow morning there will be about 200+ replies on this thread. Why is it that anything that refers to “gays” brings out the Daryll’s of the world en mass?
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:29 pmviolence based on sexual orientation is discriminatory and is definatly a hate crime. The first people hitler tried to eliminate were homosexuals….maybe second after the mental patients…..sick mo fo’s.

Daryll is like a skipping record, repeating his mantra without regard to the facts.
Bitbit, on the other hand, seems to assume that any sexuality other than heterosexuality is “chosen”, which is demonstrably false.
Interesting how that works in the land of Bitbit:
You’re gay? Why did you make the wrong choice?
You’re straight? That’s how God made you!
See how Bitbit’s “logic” seems to work?

I have always supported the stupidest people on the Planet, like YOU, coming here to make complete fools of yourself. Your ignorance and cluelessness make for a fine free clown show. I love to laugh at people like you who are SO stupid you think you are funny and clever when in fact you are just sad and pathetic
December 4th, 2008 at 2:24 pmI don’t get it. If these polls are true, then why do gay marriage bans keep passing all over the country, even California?
Telling a pollster you’re okay with it is one thing, but too many people are reluctant to really speak out when push comes to shove.
