Economists on both left and right now recognize the need for massive government spending to dig the economy out of its current recession. The Wall Street Journal notes that states that are coping with big budget deficits may now have to “either propose or accept tax increases.” Right-wing ideologue Grover Norquist – who once famously quipped “I simply want to reduce [government] to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub” – sees an opportunity to turn his dreams into reality:
And there is no better way to alienate the base of the Republican Party than to push for, or acquiesce to, tax increases.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to separate the sheep from the goats,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “The guys who turn around and say ‘I can’t rein in spending, I must raise taxes’…are going to have a hard time.”
Adopting Norquist’s neo-Hooverist suggestion of cutting spending would only deepen the recession.
How many times must this dolt be handed his hat and told to take his reagan crap with him? Norquist is still insisting our current economic troubles are because Democrats were elected in 2006. What a load of crap. Trust nothing that comes from this moron.
December 4th, 2008 at 10:59 amHey. Grove. NO ONE listens to you anymore. The only people that do are people like us so that we can make fun of you.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:01 am“This is a tremendous opportunity to separate the sheep from the goats,” said Grover
I think it was done early last month, Grover. The majority of Americans decided to quit being sheep.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:03 amSorry, grovie, we drowned the GOP elephant.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:06 amGrover, you were so much more appealing as a blue muppet on Sesame Street. Whose hand is currently up you butt?
PEACE
December 4th, 2008 at 11:08 am“This is a tremendous opportunity to separate the sheep from the goats,” said Grover Norquist
He oughta know since his last 10 dates were with sheep.

December 4th, 2008 at 11:11 amI;m convinced that Conservatives think that if what they are doing isn’t working, it’s only because they aren’t doing enough of it, not that they are doing the wrong thing.
I’m so happy we just marginalized them in government.

December 4th, 2008 at 11:20 amLet’s just save ourselves from all this sturm und drang - and drown Grover in that bathtub instead.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:21 amForgive a bit of hyperbole …
Republicans got everything they asked for in the past 8 years and they RUINED THE ECONOMY! It is time for Grover and all his pals to just shut-up and sit down. When we’ve completely run out of ideas, we might ask, but don’t hold your breath. In the mean time, find yourselves good lawyers and thank your lucky stars that liberals believe in the value of a rigorous legal defense.

___________
Well, that’s one name crossed off the short-list for a State Department undersecretary…
December 4th, 2008 at 11:22 amI suggest one way to cut spending is to stop paying Norquist for his blather.
It’s alway those out of touch with reality that espouse this stupid ideas. We have had jerks that tout their conservative rhetoric and their personal responsibility, and everyone should pull themselves up by their bootstraps, but when they make greedy decisions and tank their companies or screw up their banks, to whom do they run?
The American Taxpayer, that’s who.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:22 amTheres a nice libertarian utopia where the government has been “drowned in a bathtub” that he can move to today. It’s called Somalia. Some other places lacking a strong central government include afghanistan, iraq, and on and on and on.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:30 amWell I hope all those Republican goats stay loyal, cuz goats become Cabrito served on tortillas with a nice sauce.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:31 amGrover, you moron, it failed. Reaganomics failed big time and you are a fool to continue to preach the virtues of a failed policy. You had almost thirty years to prove it’s worth and you failed. Now get a freaking job.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:36 amIt is his ilk that have assisted in the destruction of the middle class, while the rich got richer. If Grover had his way, his ideal society would be equivalent to the middle ages era of surfdom.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:47 amFew people knew that Grover Nerdquist has cloven hooves…
December 4th, 2008 at 11:53 amDick Dale is my favorite troubador serfer.
December 4th, 2008 at 12:03 pmBring back firing squads.
December 4th, 2008 at 12:10 pmOkay, the jury is in. And, the verdict is that Grover Norquist is not guilty by reason of insanity.
December 4th, 2008 at 2:13 pmGrover should just drown himself in that bathtub and save us from having to listen to his deranged drivel any longer.
December 4th, 2008 at 2:18 pmGrover has a lot of nerve (and ignorance) using that phrase, “to separate the sheep from the goats.”
This is the biblical scripture that phrase is derived from. Grover is on the wrong side.
The text of the passage appears in Matthews Gospel, and is the final portion of a section containing a series of parables. From Matthew 25:31–46 (NRSV):
31 ‘When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and He will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at His right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” 40 And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,* you did it to me.”’
41 ‘Then He will say to those at His left hand, “You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.” 44 Then they also will answer, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?” 45 Then He will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.” 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.’
December 4th, 2008 at 2:54 pmHa ha. He’s name is Grover. No wonder he is so pissy all the time. I wonder how he feels about Jeb’s shadow government. Two governments? You know what that’ll mean for your taxes!!!!
December 4th, 2008 at 4:23 pmGrover Norquist should be in a mental institution…or in a military brig for treason because of all the damage he has done to our nation.
Norquist, and Karl Rove, and Ralph Reed were all College Republicans together, and all should have to pay for what they’ve done in their coordinated attempt to destroy our democracy.
We’ve all seen what crazed Republican tax-and-spend policies have done to our nation over the past eight years, driving the federal deficit up from $5 Trillion to over $10 Trillion, while getting our nation into unnecessary wars and giving tax breaks/cuts to the wealthiest while shafting the middle class and poor. Furthermore, by their attack on our federal government, they’ve shifted the monetary burden to state governments, which has driven up huge budget deficits at the state level, too. And while they’ve been doing all this, they’ve directed the remaining taxpayer money toward crony right-wing Republican individuals and companies, trying to freeze-out anyone viewed as “not one of us,” through the illegal awarding of no-bid contracts.
Crazed. Criminal. Republicans.
December 4th, 2008 at 9:39 pmOh that we could drown Norquist in that same tub.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:07 pmHey, why is there a dead elephant floating upside down in my pool?
