White House finally admits the U.S. economy is in a recession.

Yesterday, ThinkProgress noted that despite the National Bureau of Economic Research determining that the U.S. is in a recession, the White House still couldn’t bring itself to use the word. Today, however, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino appeared to finally recognize that relying on strained euphemisms is not an effective way to hold an informed discussion about the nation’s struggling economy. Instead, Perino acknowledged reality and finally used the word “recession.” Watch it:

Uh-oh, now it has to be explained to W. I hope he is sorry for the economy as well. It makes things so much better. PFFFT

  4. madstork123 says:

And then she added: “But it’s a really really mild resession. Why don’t you all go shopping”

  5. jakedogman says:

In the ABC interview Charles Gibson ask GWB if he would do any “do-overs”. GWB said no. Charles then called up Bush Sr and asked the same question. Withdrawal was his answer. Or maybe a condom.

  6. RantingTommy says:

Later she admitted that water was wet, gasoline was flammable, and grass is green.

No word on if she intends to admit that Republicans follow a failed ideology.

  7. raynman says:

at least she didn’t add, “isn’t it a coincidence that this all happened just as Obama is about to assume office?”

  8. kasinca says:

I really believe that this little doll mouth piece doesn’t know about which she speaks, on any given day.

  9. DaTruth says:

It took a while for her to finally cough it out! We’re looking at a long painful recession that has been going on for about a year now. Finally, they have no choice but to admit it!

Gather all kinds of seeds : orange, lime, cherries, apples, peaches, whatever. Grow all kinds of trees in your backyard. It is fun, rewarding, and it’ll help you and your family become more self-sufficient. A long deep recession is under way!

  10. Wayne says:

Wow, she said recession and her head did not burst into flames? Wonders never cease.

‘Don’t believe in anything until it is officially denied.’

Everything they have deniede during the last 8 years have turn out to be the case:
    The US does not Torture…
We are not in a Recession…
‘I’ve spoke with Rove and Chenney and they assure me that they have nothing to do with the outing of Valerie Plame…
we are not in a recession…
    Few bad apples…
To say that this administration has anything to do with 9/11 is absurd…

  14. had enough says:

Isn’t the WH a year late on this statement?

They so wanted to hold off on this reality in order to protect their arse and blame the dems.

  15. Fred says:

bush White House finally admits the U.S. economy is in a recession

    the “bush recession”

  16. wisedup says:

Sorry, but if her lips are moving….she’s lieing.

  17. Nevar says:

It’s hilarious to watch her quickly blurt out the word, and then do a mumbling backpedal in her response to the reporter who has to bite his lower lip to keep from cracking up…

  18. AshtabulaDem says:

    The Bush Recession.
    The Bush Recession.
    The Bush Recession.

How many times will the right-wingers need to hear those words before they concede it was on their watch and under the lackluster leadership of George W. Bush that the American economy went belly up?

My guess it that it probably is the same amount of times it has taken them to concede there were no WMD’s in Iraq, Iraq was not involved in the 9-11 attacks on America or the Clinton’s did not kill Bill Foster.

All I can conclude is that those who cannot accept responsibility for the actions they solidly supported or for the falsifications and prevarications they have spread, are nothing but lily-livered cowards and liars. The right-wing’s self-styled “patrioism” and moral values crumble in the light of truth.

  19. Shayne says:

NOW … they going to work on ending the recesssion. NOW. Dirtbags.

  20. Zimzone says:

I’m sure not going to miss Barbie Peroxide’s lackluster reasoning or limited intelligence.

Any guesses on who Obama will choose for Press Sec?

  21. Zimzone says:

Thanks, Nevar; I don’t know Gibbs, but I guess I will soon.

  22. sectionop92 says:

I’ve heard Secret Service agents have been posted by the emergency exits. Suddenly the White House has become Alcatraz to Bush.

  23. SP Biloxi says:

“White House finally admits the U.S. economy is in a recession.”

Well, gosh, darnit, was that hard to say that horrible R word, Dana? A year too late. Interesting the White House can finally admit the word “recession” but still will not admit that they lied to the American people for 7 1/2 years.

  24. cargod says:

If Dana airhead is admitting it’s a recession, then the whitehouse has probably already figured we are heading for a depression, it certainly depresses me to look at her.

  25. the brown acid says:

“White House finally admits the U.S. economy is in a recession.”

Which really means it has become a depression now.

  26. the brown acid says:

    The Bush Recession

  27. dbadass says:

sure but the foundations of the economy are strong.

  28. Leftside Annie says:

Yeah, and it’s only a MENTAL recession anyway – you know, it’s all in our whiny heads.

  29. curious says:

Let me say it for the White House. Recession, Recession, Recession, Recession. See how that works?

  30. Casual T says:

I’m sure that Hannity, O’Reilly, and the rest of the Fax Noose talking rectums will claim everything was fine until Obama’s election, which immediately propelled us into a recession. Oh yeah, and IF ther ever was any torture of prisoners, it was undoubtedly Bill Clinton’s doing.

  31. dickdata42 says:

Uh, NOW she says “recession”. If Congress and the White House let the big 3 automakers fail, we could be in a “depression” by January 20th. Bet you won’t hear that word until the AFTERNOON of January 20th.
