Is Norm Coleman under federal investigation?

Last month, Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) came under fire in a lawsuit alleging that a donor, Nasser Kazeminy, used an insurance company that employs Coleman’s wife to pass money to Coleman illegally. After a watchdog group requested a federal investigation, Coleman’s office gave an “unequivocal ‘no‘” on whether he was being investigated. But TPM notes that now, Coleman’s office curiously won’t say whether he is under investigation:

Both the FBI and the ethics committee have declined to provide any information about whether they’re looking into Coleman. So we’ve been calling Coleman’s office to ask whether he’s heard from investigators. In fact, in the last few weeks, we’ve left at least ten detailed voicemail messages for Leroy Coleman, the senator’s Washington press secretary (and no relation) asking exactly that question. And we’ve received no response whatsoever.

Clearly they haven’t figured out which blatant lie to tell. You guys are so mean to demand an answer to a question that ol’ Norm would prefer not to answer!
    (Here’s to Mean!!)

    Republicans? Ethics?

  3. spencers mom says:

Let’s just hope that Franken wins or Gov. Pawlenty(R) will get to appoint a replacement if/when Coleman is indicted and convicted.

As of today, Franken is up by FOUR votes. Yes, four as in one, two, three…

    PEACE

  4. konchster says:

How can they not be investigating this blatant violation. The protection of the Bush administration is evaporating quickly and will be nonexistent shortly

  5. Marie says:

And if Coleman wins the election, then what?
I heard Franken is up by 4 votes, but Coleman says hes up 200+ — depends on who’s counting which ballots.

  6. SKdeA says:

    Go, AL FRANKEN!!!!

I really want him to win.

  7. dasm says:

I’m hoping to be elected, so of course we have no comment on the investigation…. maybe afterwards.
Ah, Republicans. So forthright, ethical, honest, in their own minds.

  8. LiberalVoter says:

Is Norm Coleman under federal investigation? Well, there is an (R) after his name so it would make sense. After all there is a major trend of corruption with the ‘right’.

  9. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Does this mean the answer isn’t “no”?

  10. sectionop92 says:

Norm needs to Google “Nixon + SLUSH”.

Then again, I do think G. Gordon Liddy is managing a 7-11 now-a-days. I wouldn’t put it past him to take from the charity jars or yell at Salvation Army volunteers.

  11. Casual T says:

“I WAS under investigation, but I called Dana Perino and she debunked the charges for me!”

  12. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I think this was is pretty open and shut case. If they can trace the money from the originator, to her company and then to her, that’s a pretty clear case. I don’t think he can get away with saying, “But, the money was given to my wife”.

  13. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I really want AL Franken to win this one. If Coleman is indicted and found guilty he will probably be sent packing. Then the Republican Governor will appoint another Republican to the seat.

  14. roscoe says:

Our state deserves better that Norm Coleman. As Garrison Keiller describes him, “an empty suit”. This man calls himself “a 99% improvement” over his predecessor, the late Paul Wellstone, what an outright lie & joke.

He has no ethics or class. He advanced in Minnesota politics as a Democrat & when he found out there were too many superior Democrats seeking state office; he decides to be a republican. Then he lost to Jesse Ventura for Governor & was hand picked by “Shooter” Cheney & Dumbya to run for senate. Now I hope he loses in the recount to Franken

Either way I hope he goes to prison; with his goofy chicklet tooth “real pretty mouth” smile he should be a popular target in prison.
