Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that employers slashed 533,000 jobs in November, “much higher than the 320,000 economists forecast.” BLS commission Keith Hall presented his report to the Joint Economic Committee this morning, and said that it was “one of the worst jobs reports” in the agency’s 124-year history:
HALL: If I were to characterize this jobs report I would say it’s very dismal jobs report. There’s very little in this report that’s positive. This is maybe one of the worst jobs reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics has ever produced.
CUMMINGS: Ever?
HALL: Yes.
CUMMINGS: And how long has the Bureau been around?
HALL: 124 years.
CUMMINGS: 124 years. And so that means we’re sliding down the slippery slope fast.
Watch it:
Don’t confuse me with stats. I know for a fact that tax cuts for the rich and deregulation cause the economy to boom.

December 5th, 2008 at 5:56 pmAnd we know things aren’t that bad cause Dana Perrino says so and she gets her stuff straight from the horse’s ass I mean mouth
If I wasn’t working at a community college whose enrollment has been steadily increasing over the last 5 years, I’d be scared to death I’d lose my job because of the economy. I personally know 5 people, who have always been full-time workers, 3 highly educated, who are struggling to find employment or a second job to make ends meet.
In my financial aid office, I hear sad stories from desperate parents and students on a daily basis. I pray we start to recover quickly from this economic debacle.
December 5th, 2008 at 5:57 pmBut..but the fundiementals are strong in California.
December 5th, 2008 at 5:57 pmIf this is the worst report in 124 years for the BLS, that means we lost more jobs in November than were lost during the Great Depression in a single month!?!?! Jeez…I’m speechless.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:01 pmHeckuva a job, Chimpy!
December 5th, 2008 at 6:03 pmI guess that means all those cheap-paying service sector jobs President Bush takes the credit for creating have joined our manufacturing jobs over in China and India.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:03 pmI guess that’s 533,000 more new cars that won’t be sold.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:06 pmIt’s scary. Several people at my job were laid off. I work hard and my job seems secure… but you just never know.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:12 pmGeez….and who was “president” when this report came out? Oh, yah, Chimpy was. And his political party? Oh, yah, the compasionate conservative party. Now it makes sense
December 5th, 2008 at 6:13 pmWORST.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:15 pmPRESIDENT.

It is not just outsourcing to foreign lands that has the workforce in a Tailspin.
It is also CYBERNATION. All those much tauted gains in Productivity are because MACHINES are allowing those lucky enough to have jobs ,to produce lots more stuff with lot less people.
This started in Agriculture where one Farmers with modern tractors and equipment can do the work formerly done by hundreds of people and scores of mules. About 6% of the population now feeds America.
Now , with computers, Cybernation has moved into the white collar workforce. Press #1 to talk to an actual human.
All this was supposed to give workers more free time, and less drudgery….but what it gave was Million dollar Bonuses for the CEO’s and a falling standard of living for Workers.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:17 pmDon’t worry, folks. Wall Street is OK.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:39 pmHi, Zoo.
Nice reading you. Like old times. ;)
December 5th, 2008 at 6:50 pmSome interesting but troubling stats that distinguish Bush II from Nixon-Ford. We all thought we had it bad over 30 years ago.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:53 pmAnd still, can you believe how many idiots still voted for the corrupt Republican criminals this last election….shear stupidity, voting against your own well being.
December 5th, 2008 at 7:21 pmWolf Blitzer on CNN’s Situation Room today said that 1.9 million people have lost their jobs this year, but that is false. There are 1.9 million fewer jobs, but you must also add the approximate 1.4 million increase in the working population and say that about 3.3 million people have lost their jobs this year. Someone please explain how I am not correct and CNN is right.

Like watching them clap and sing and drink Kool-Aid under the Guyanan sun.
December 5th, 2008 at 8:25 pmDid you hear the joke about when a monkey was voted into office and started making policy decisions?
Yeah, I didn’t believe Republicans were such big fans of Planet of the Apes either until I saw how f-ed up the concept was in-practice!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:48 amWhat else is to be expected from 8 years of the worse unelected president ever!
