Bush at portrait unveiling: ‘Welcome to my hanging.’

Today, President Bush presided over the unveiling of his presidential portrait, at the Union League. “Welcome to my hanging,” Bush joked to the crowd. The portrait “shows Bush staring straight ahead, looking comfortable but not quite smiling, against the backdrop of the White House’s Treaty Room.” Bush said the painter, Mark Carder, “did a really fine job with a challenging subject.”

Bush staring straight ahead, looking comfortable but not quiet smiling,…

I might be wrong, but didn’t he make the same lame joke when his official Governor’s portrait was unveiled?

  10. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Can we see the portrait? I can’t even find it at the official White House website.

Ironic, since there are few if any treaties, Bush and his minions honored.

“From the very beginning, the Bush-Cheney administration has dismissed international law and disregarded domestic law. They began by either repudiating or refusing to honor the United States’ international commitments and obligations, thus showing indifference, if not outright hostility, toward international law. They opted out of five important international treaties and commitments: the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change, the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty and the International Criminal Court. In so doing, the United States, under the Bush-Cheney administration, has betrayed its international commitments and has moved away from being a moral state, and more and more toward the status of an international rogue state.”

And there of course, there were the Geneva Conventions…so “quaint.”

Let’s not forget the U.S. just refused to sign the Treaty against the manufacturing and use of cluster bombs.

Gallows humor might not have been the best choice of words for Bushie considering that he still may have to face The Hague.

How is Botch dressed in this portrait?

Is he nattily attired in orange jumpsuit, w/ matching shiny bracelets?

It has got to SUCK big time being that man, and knowing probably more than half the country just doesn’t want your presiduncy over with, but would be truly delighted to see your sorry Cheney hauled off to the Hague and put on trial as a war criminal.

The joke about hanging would indicate he’s aware of this at some level, even thru that murky alkyholic daze he’s rumored to be spending his final weeks in office in.

Can’t say I feel the least bit sorry for the vicious, incompetent, delusional corrupt, bullying, arrogant, little dry drunk from Hades.

How bored is this Mark Carder dude ?

Why in the world would anyone waste their time painting a portrait of a pile of shit ?

  29. wizard2000 says:

Hee, hee, hee, gallows humor. Bush is such a card.

Unfortunately, the evil and corruption our nation has experienced over the past eight years under evil and corrupt Republicans is no laughing matter…and with Republicans planning on blocking every Democratic Party initiative in the Senate, initiatives meant to right the Bush wrongs, meant to set our nation once again on the path to peace and prosperity, meant to guarantee liberty and justice for all Americans, things aren’t going to change very soon.

And with die-hard Blue Dog Democrats siding with culture of corruption and corporate greed Republicans all the time, probably things aren’t going to change at all.

    Can you feel the excitement?!!!

  31. Game of Life says:

chimp is such a weird, psychopathic ignorant imbecile. “Welcome to my hanging.” he thinks making a joke out of hanging is funny, he knows people really want to hang him. he also knows that he hung Hussein and a few contractors/private army, blackwater, were hung on a bridge.

I see nothing funny in his ignorance.
GO AWAY YOU SADIST OLD FOOL!

  32. Wayne A. Schneider says:

His portrait features a grandfather clock. Is this a tribute to his grandfather, Prescott Bush? We all know how he began the family fortune.

  33. thirdparty says:

This is a beautiful portrait. Very well done.

  34. APEC not OPEC says:

Thank you TP! Yesterday (see post #11) I put a link to what I felt was the only portrait Bush deserves. It went through with no problem. Today at Huffington Post I tried to post it again as a reply to a commentor asking “Where’s the picture”. They dumped it twice. So I tried again, this time linking to the one they had AT THEIR OWN SITE! Poof! gone. Way to go HuffPOO!

We have grown stronger and WE WANT YOU DEAD! lOSER FREAK!

  38. MapleStreet says:

Considering that anyone else making a similar joke could be accused as incitement (especially that there are a lot of folks out there who don’t like the guy):

Is there anyway we can charge Bush for incitement for saying this ????

    Well I can dream can’t I ?

  39. TexasVietVet says:

I’d pay my last dollar to watch that idiot hang.

I hope he drinks the rest of his lousy life away.

It couldn’t happen to a more deserving a$$hole.

    Buck Fush!

“When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag carrying a cross.” Sinclair Lewis.

  40. TexasVietVet says:

( WMR ) — With less than two months remaining in office, George W. Bush, witnessing a devastating defeat for the Republican Party,
worse favorability ratings than those of Richard Nixon at the height of the Watergate scandal, and the most devastating economic situation since the Great Depression, is reported by a number of well-placed sources in Washington as drinking heavily.

I hope he is drinking. This is the first time in his spoiled rotten life he’s been held accountable for his failures. At least in public opinion. I hope he walks down the street and people spit on him.

    POS.

  41. nycbassist says:

He’s drunk, during this “hanging”. There’s just no doubt about it. If he leans any further he’ll fall off the podium, and check out the slurred speech.

One would think that he’s drinking out of misery for the complete and utter disaster his 8 years have been. I beg to differ. I believe he’s celebrating. Disaster is what this man has been, and always will be about. He is a complete sociopath and these 8 years have been more than any of his kind could ever dream of. Chaos, destruction, death… and he’ll get away with everything he wanted. Heckuva job, Bush.

  42. Leftside Annie says:

    Hanging?!?!?

    They’re gonna HANG Bush?!?!? COOL!

What? You mean a PICTURE hanging…?

    Oh.

    Never mind.
