Giuliani Lauds Obama’s Election: It Makes America ‘An Honest Nation And Not A Hypocritical One’

In an interview with Sky News, former NYC Mayor and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani said the election of Barack Obama will help America’s image abroad.

“Even those who voted against him, like me, say ‘We’re very thankful this has happened. This is the consolation prize’,” he said. “If you look at America – which I believe is a great nation… one of the terrible marks against us is slavery and racism, and I think that’s a great thing for America to have overcome.” He said of Obama’s victory:

I believe that will gain us a tremendous amount in the world community. We can now be an honest nation and not a hypocritical one.

Watch it:

Giuliani also lauded Obama’s early personnel selections. “I think he made very good choices for his Cabinet. Very bold choices,” he said.

Giuliani’s new laudatory tone is a surprising shift from the ferocious attack dog he played during the campaign:

He worked as a community organizer. (Laughter). What? I said, ok, ok, this is maybe the first problem on the resume. He worked as a community organizer.

After first claiming to “respect” Obama for his honesty in discussing his past drug use, Giuliani later attacked: “God forbid somebody would do some reporting on Barack Obama’s use of drugs.” Giuliani also criticized Obama on the anniversary of 9/11, claiming Obama would take “softer” approach to terrorism. And he ripped Obama as being “too close to the presidency not to have formed views about” Israel.

Indeed, Obama’s election has helped reveal hypocrisy — the hypocrisy of Giuliani’s baseless and shameless fearmongering during the campaign.

good for you rudy, thats the first thing you’ve said in 8 years that has made sense. you are still a dick though.

  2. LiberalVoter says:

Rudy must be in therapy as he did not mention 9/11 once in this article, although TP did mention it.

  3. blue state bob says:

Giuliani is a pathetic loser, really nothing more to say about this huge d-bag

  4. unbelievable says:

The Cons have nothing but lies, slander and fear-mongering.

It was probably hard for Guiliani to attempt, miserably, to be contrite, but we all know it’s simply political pandering and not a genuine statement, otherwise he would have had to call the will of 65 million voters a ‘consolation prize’….

  5. barfly says:

No, the real hypocrisy comes when Guiliani and Assoc’s tries to lobby the Obama administration for government contracts.

  6. stewarjt says:

“It Makes America ‘An Honest Nation And Not A Hypocritical One’”

    Says the hypocrite.

  7. barfly says:

And getting government contracts is the main reason Guiliani is acting all magnanamous, and shit.

  8. KayInMaine says:

Wow, Guiliani is in a good mood, huh? He must have gotten another $100 MILLION no-bid contract from George Bush again. Spit.

  9. Fred says:

the election of Barack Obama will help America’s image abroad.

He’s admitting that even the republicans are embarrassed by bush.

  10. katy says:

    holy crap, rudy…

just the headline made me L O L…

and he really thinks america has now “overcome” racism???

hoo boy… now, back to read the rest…

  11. katy says:

oh yea… and consolation prize ???

    fook you, rudy.

  12. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Actually, the world is not necessarily happy about Obama’s election because he is black, but more because he is a grown up and the world is fairly sure that he is not going to continue any of the Bush Crime Family dictates like torture and rendition.

  13. barfly says:

Giuliani also lauded Obama’s early personnel selections. “I think he made very good choices for his Cabinet. Very bold choices,” he said.

The same people who will be in a position to advocate for (or against) Guiliani and Associates, when those government contracts are let.

Cynical, down to his taxpayer funded socks.

  14. katy says:

Indeed, Obama’s election has helped reveal hypocrisy — the hypocrisy of Giuliani’s baseless and shameless fearmongering during the campaign.

    not just rudy’s hypocrisy…

    good one, faiz.

pretty obvious that’s what this is all about…

  17. Another Joe says:

    This from NOUN-VERB-9/11?

  18. KayInMaine says:

It’s very possible Rudy is in-the-know about the next 9/11 attack on our nation via the Bush Regime and wants to go on record as loving the new president, Barack Obama, when really, he’ll be making another fortune off the backs of dead Americans because of the new attack. Spit.

  19. Another Joe says:

Kay – sounds like you too understand that the first one was an inside job.

  20. greenpagan says:

  21. labman57 says:

The guy is actually trying to convince people that he is HAPPY that Obama won? Give me a break! He is one of these smug, self-righteous right wingers that went out of their way to contemptuously spread manure, attacking not only Obama’s policies but his character and ethics, and now they claim that it was just “typical politics” (you listening, Sarah Palin?).

Essentially, he is admitting that most of what he was spewing during election campaign was a pack of lies. So why should be believe him now? Sounds like more “typical politics” to me.

  22. CParis says:

Either the Rudester is lobbying for contracts for Guiliani & Assoc, as other posters have noted, or he’s backtracking off the rightwingnut cliff in preparation for a run for the Senate or NY governor in 2010.

  23. Another Joe says:

More likely, CParis, he is just helping the MSM send his previous lies down the memory hole so that he can be a more effective liar to attack and lie, allowing the same MSM to “catapult the propaganda.”

  24. Buckie Boy says:

Is Trudy now trying to say that he has a “Black Friend”?

  25. timm553 says:

Hey, Another Joe. You can add me to that particular list also. What some people will do for money. It’s criminal, at least.

  26. YogaforCynics says:

Wow–can you imagine if a Democrat implied that, until a month ago, America was hypocritical and dishonest?

  27. Zooey says:

Shorter Rudy: Noun, verb, 9/11, hypocrisy

  28. KayInMaine says:

    Another Joe Says:

Kay – sounds like you too understand that the first one was an inside job.

Yep. It was either an inside job with forces such as Dick Cheney helping the attack to go smoothly on the morning of 9/11 or the attack was allowed to happen with the likes of Dick Cheney helping the attack to go smoothly. See?

Just like 9/11/01 and the anthrax attacks, the next 9/11 on American soil won’t be a surprise thanks to 8 years of the Bush Regime and will come directly from them! How many nukes have they stolen over the years in addition to stealing TRILLIONS?

  29. Marie says:

Everytime he opens his mouth to speak, he shows us what a hypocritical, exploitative, loathsome person he is.

  30. Badger says:

Kevin Phillips just called George W. Bush a “Nitwit” on c-span 2.

Mr. Phillips is Live and taking calls. Check it out.

  31. realspear says:

These post-election-only fans of Obama are all scared. They realize that he has the public’s support and the ability to make things happen. If they don’t get on the bus, they won’t be able to do anything for the next eight years.

I expect they will have trouble actually getting on the bus, the record before the election will continue to come back as proof of what they really believe.

  32. Another Joe says:

MUST SEE VIDEO of giuliani telling a reasonable group of constituents that they are all a bunch of morons!

    LOL

Please scroll down, video is embedded near the top of the page.

  33. SWBob says:

Sorry Rudy, no job for you.

  34. Zooey says:

OT, but there’s no Pearl Harbor Day thread…

Read the Story of a Great White Ship, the USS Solace. nwmuse has posted the story, with her mother-in-law’s photos, taken while she served on the Solace after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

  35. Daflava08 says:

Wow…the ignorance of this guy….consolation prize, America has overcome rascism. Who actually takes this man seriously?

  36. Another Joe says:

Daflava08 – please don’t kid yourself, you bring up good points. Remember, the mainstream media shapes perceptions today in ways many would never have imagined years ago.

Noun-Verb-9/11 Rudy has some utility to his masters because his image is permanently associated with that tragic event.

Please don’t underestimate the ability of the media to flush things down the memory hole and “catapult” a whole new set of lies.

IMHO, we are just seeing rudy setting himself up to be an “objective” voice in the future. His lies from the past will be forgotten.

This will allow him to spin an entire new set of lies when it serves his and his master’s purpose.

Yes – we will probably see him run for office again. The neocon/repugs cannot afford to write off this “asset”.

  37. NewYorkIndependent says:

I am an independent in New York City, and have always been an independent. This gives me vantage point of seeing hypocrisy wherever it may be, rather than from only one ideological perspective.

Yes, Rudy Giuliani is posturing. But so are all of you phonies who lambast him, but FAIL to mention the hypocrisy in all the things Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama said to each other vis-a-vis where we are now! Ditto for ALL the other candidates on both sides.

And btw, I hate to disabuse some of you nitwits, but the fact is that Giuliani happens to be extremely bright … just not as smooth as Clinton or Obama.

But PUH-LEASE don’t moralize here … not with the ample crop of parasites in both parties … unless you dish it out fairly … or unless you just like hearing the sound of your own voice.

So instead of highlighting hypocrisy by spreading even more of your OWN hypocrisy, why don’t some of you braintrusts have the guts to call all of them for what they truly are … opportunistic weasles … and try tohonestly, rather than along the myopic view from your party line.

Ginger Guiliani is beyond nauseating. And how is his BFF indicted Bernie Kerik doing lately?

  39. rogerD says:

Mr 911 must need some insider government contracts. That’s the only way his recent statements make any sense. He’s heavily invested in the “security” business and realizes there’s gold to be made if only one makes nice with the new guys in power.

  40. katy says:

do you feel better now, NYindy? … good… now run along back to your rudy doll…

we’ve heard it all before… didn’t take long to figure out the facts and the truth…

and the fact is, truth – and reality – has a liberal bias.

    thanks for the reinforcement.

  41. sledgehammer916 says:

OH BOY! That’s all Obama needs is the approval of Riccochet Rudy. Everything Rudy touches turns to s__t!

  42. MapleStreet says:

And the reason Ghooliani still gets airtime is ??????

And is there any chance that his statements may be tied to trying to make income for his consulting business ?

  43. motorfingaz says:

No, Trudy Juliannie. Obamas win makes you a liar and a loser!!

  44. boilerman10 says:

    Mr. Giuliani,

Thank you for your kind comments. I would reassure you sir that yes the sun will continue to do its appointed duty and the moon will certainly continue to do its too. And I think that you will find President Obama as reliable as the aforementioned physical phenomenon.

Now Mr. Giuliani, kindly GO AWAY!

  46. Alecto says:

    OH Trudy,
Please sir, tell us again…Why did you put your Emergency Command bunker up 15 stories int he sky in Building #7 of the World Trade Center AFTER the first WTC bombimg? ANd against ALL emergency command personnel’s reccomendations? Oh regale us again with your egotistical self-deluded feelings of self-import you stupid fcuking fascists pig. Please please tell us of your relationship with the Felonw Bernie Kerick/
We all need a good laugh and cry thinking that you were actually responsible for millions of lives on 9/11. You sorry excuse for a package of protoplasm.

    F UCK YOU RUDY!
ARREST, TRY AND HANG THE TRAITOR!!!

  47. Alecto says:

I am sure he would wear a nice dress for the hanging.

  48. bigmacha says:

Rudy should join with Sarah and just ride off into the sunset. I cannot stomach hearing any more of their idiocy. Please, please Rudy (and Sarah) go away – far, far away to a place more deserving of your talents – the Arctic perhaps.

Yeah, politicians really need to be careful about slamming opponents in campaigns, then turning around a few weeks after the election and saying just the opposite:

    Peter Baker:

    “Thank you, Mr. President-elect.

You talked about the importance just now of having different voices and robust debate within your administration. But, again, going back to the campaign, you were asked and talked about the qualifications of the — your now — your nominee for secretary of State, and you belittled her travels around the world, equating it to having teas with foreign leaders; and your new White House counsel said that her resume was grossly exaggerated when it came to foreign policy.

I’m wondering whether you could talk about the evolution of your views of her credentials since the spring.”

PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA: Look, I’m in — I think this is fun for the press, to try to stir up whatever quotes were generated during the course of the campaign…”

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/12/7/123444/498

The “heat of the campaign” is a poor excuse no matter who uses it.

CageyCretin [comment: December 8th, 2008 at 9:07 am} ... btw, the screen name says it all.

I don't know who you narrowed-minded bigots have in mind, but I for one AM an independent and have been my entire life. I have voted for people running under nearly every party banner.

    So don't lecture ME, morons.

Why don't you read my post and take it in the spirit in which it was said ... A HOPE that we as a nation can call things fairly all the way around - hold ALL our leaders responsible - and not be so quick to condemn only those we despise, for whatever reason.

Too libertarian for you neurologically challenged goons?

That's a rhetorical question - Katy and [the aptly named] CageyCretin.

    The answer is: Apparently so.
