Bush gives a rare shout-out to Rumsfeld during West Point speech.

bushrums.jpg Today in a speech at the West Point Military Academy, President Bush further defended his legacy on national security, saying that the U.S. military is “stronger, more agile and better prepared” than it was in 2001. He also gave a “rare shout out to his former defense secretary, Donald H. Rumsfeld, for leading the charge for a more nimble military”:

Finally, we are transforming our military for a new kind of war that we’re fighting now, and for wars of tomorrow. This transformation was a top priority for the enterprising leader who served as my first Secretary of Defense — Donald Rumsfeld. Today, because of his leadership and the leadership of Secretary Bob Gates, we have made our military better trained, better equipped, and better prepared to meet the threats facing America today, and tomorrow, and long in the future.

Record numbers of PTSD and TBIs are better?

  2. LiberalVoter says:

Here’s hoping they shout each other out at the defense table at their trial in The Hague. Rumsfeld is one arrogant bastard that needs a dose of reality. My contempt for Rumsfeld is on a par with the sociopath Cheney.

  3. Curlew says:

I wonder what this bastard smokes each day?

  4. Game of Life says:

    U.S. military is “stronger,
Yeah they are stronger, because they are sent to Iraq over and over again.

    more agile
Yep, ducking bombs like a ballerina.

    and better prepared
Yep thanks to generosity of US citizens, chimpy doesn’t believe in the basic protection for the soldiers’ themselves, for their vehicles or for soldiers taking showers.

legacy my ass. chimpy’s legacy is my ass.

he brings up rummy because President-Elect Obama hired Shinsiski. (sp) What a double dipped shidhead joke.

  5. jb says:

The military seems to be nimble i9nto WAR but not so nimble back out. Why is Rumsfeld still alive?

  6. 5th Estate says:

“This transformation was a top priority for the enterprising leader who served as my first Secretary of Defense — Donald Rumsfeld.”

Who had his transformational ass handed to him by an outnumbered underequipped General Riper during a showcase 2002 exercise.

Funny how all that transformational stuff has worked out in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dubs and Rummy can reunite as Cellies and stroke each others’ egos for life

  8. galmud says:

Transforming the military in Iraq into a force of 50% poorly equipped, constantly neglected American young men and women in uniform, and 50% expensive, dangerous triggerhappy American and foreign guns for hire, operating without oversight, without proper rules of engagement, without any respect for Iraqi civilians and without fear of the rule of law since they are above both Iraqi and US law

    Heckuva job Rummy

  9. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Finally, we are transforming our military for a new kind of war that we’re fighting now, and for wars of tomorrow.

Yes. A war fought with private contractors, unbound by any International Treaty or Rules of War.

  10. Wayne A. Schneider says:

This transformation was a top priority for the enterprising leader who served as my first Secretary of Defense — Donald Rumsfeld.

Yes. It was a top priority to privatize virtually every support service of our military, to the point where our troops were getting killed in showers, poisoned by rancid meat and water, and the people at home, for whom they were giving their lives, were being defrauded out of billions by unscrupulous private contractors. I don’t know what his plans were for after that, and I’m not sure I want to know.

  11. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Today, because of his leadership and the leadership of Secretary Bob Gates, we have made our military better trained, better equipped, and better prepared to meet the threats facing America today, and tomorrow, and long in the future.

Yes. As long as those threats do not involve natural disasters at home, anthrax attacks at home, IED attacks in Iraq, or coming home missing limbs.

  12. BobKincaid says:

[W]e are transforming our military for a new kind of war that we’re fighting now, and for wars of tomorrow

One thing is sure. As long as we dream of “wars of tomorrow” we insure that there will be wars of tomorrow.

I guess it’s too much to hope that Dim Leader would even attempt to imagine the peace of tomorrow. No money in that. Peace is boring.

  13. tbone says:

Completely off topic, but Jon Stewart just slaughtered Huckabee on gay marriage. I am not sure I have heard a better rationale for gay marriage than what JS just offered.

    BTW BobKincaid: very well said.

Heck of a job, Rummy. Way to destroy a country, an army, an economy.

  15. sectionop92 says:

Can someone for once definitively point out the differences to our Retard in Chief between battle ready, battle tested and having our military being picked apart in needless conflicts, just because you didn’t happen to like the leader of one nation!

Your legacy, Mr. Bush is as solid as the concrete that Jimmy Hoffa is entombed in at Giants Stadium.

  16. 5th Estate says:

I concur with all the above comments. It’s yer standard issue smart TP crowd covering all aspects of the issue. Good comany to be in.

    Good night.

  18. Perry logan says:

It’s always fascinating to watch the Right fabricate their Bizarro World version of reality, in which the Right is always Right and the left is always wrong. The think tanks cook the stats for them, the media makes up the news for them, and the winger troops repeat the memes endlessly. In this way, a delusional reality is constructed.

Quick example: Reaganomics was supposed to pay off the deficit. Faced with such a breathtaking failure, normal people would be ashamed and abashed. Republicans, by contrast, have forgotten all about the utter failure of their policies. They even prattle on about how Reagan (whose administration was charged with more crimes than the cumulative total of all other Presidents of the twentieth century) was a great President.

You’ve gotta love these guys. We’ll soon be hearing about what a great President George W. Bush was, and how everything that went wrong during his administration (i.e. everything) was the Democrats’ fault. I think parts of their brains are missing.

This man has simply lost touch with what any of the rest of the People of this nation could possibly stretch into accepting as being within the ball park of REALITY!

  21. CageyCretin says:

This retard can’t tell the difference between battle-ready and battle-weary. Our troops fall into the latter category at this time.

He was enterprising — using the U.S. government to expend and sacrifice for private profits, which you know will be funneled to Bush/Cheney/Rummy.

That’s a heck of an enterprise. They spend our money to make theirs, tons for no-bid contracts and doing a crap job.

  28. MapleStreet says:

saying that the U.S. military is “stronger, more agile and better prepared” than it was in 2001

As the “Related Posts” imply, so how come the military brass (who are known for putting positive spin on the military) don’t say the same ?

I thought Bush listened to his Generals ?
