Court to Larry Craig: You’re still guilty.

craig.jpg Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) will not be allowed to withdraw his 2007 guilty plea to “disorderly conduct after he was arrested last year in a bathroom at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport by an undercover policeman.” The court ruled that Craig’s rights had not been violated and that his guilty plea was “accurate, voluntary and intelligent.” Additionally, the “court upheld the government’s power to ban ’sexual solicitations’ in a public restroom, rejecting Craig’s claim that the law violates freedom of expression.” Craig issued a statement of his displeasure in response.

Amazing. All it takes is a global financial crisis to turn Republicans into Socialists, and all it takes is a wank in an airport bathroom to turn them into performance artists.

And it couldn’t happen to a nicer (?) guy. ;o)

  3. paleolib says:

Well, the plea was accurate and voluntary anyway. Intelligent? Let’s not get carried away.

  4. A Patriot Acting says:

Just another Repugnant Repub attempting to rewrite history. Nothing to see here….move along everybody!

  5. Game of Life says:

Freedom of expression means not to violate one right to privacy.

craig hand had no business rubbing the underside of the stall and he had no business clicking shoes with a man doing his business in the next stall.

    will he go away too?

  6. lokidog says:

    …and still gay.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Deal with it, Larry. Quit denying your very being.

  7. Jackie says:

Will tap tap Larry take his case to the Supreme Court? Look it’s over and now Larry can live his life and go to all the men’s rooms he wants to find what ever. Let’s home he learned how to select his date next time. Maybe with the corrupt money he can buy a second home and not have to deal with men’s room.

  8. raynman says:

I can understand Craig’s attempt to invalidate is initial guilty plea. After all, as a Republican, he’s been conditioned to accept that no matter what he says, the assumption is that he’s lying… especially in a court of law.

  9. rastaman says:

i said it from the beginning…..if this guy could overturn a voluntary guilty plea……then the whole judicial system in the USA may as well be thrown out.

  10. Leftside Annie says:

Say, Lar, old boy – why don’t you don your gay apparel – you know, considering the season and all…?

Love him? Hate him? How do YOU feel about our soon to be former President? Take part in a chance to immortalize your views in book form by visiting http://goodbyegeorgew.com/ and letting your opinion be read!

Check out the following article about http://goodbyegeorgew.com/:

GOODBYE GEORGE W. WEBSITE STARTS NEW MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRACY
With the whole world watching the Obama transition kick in it’s easy to forget about the outgoing warmongerer-in-chief who rode to political power on his daddy’s coat-tails. Without so much as winning the popular vote the first time around George W. Bush took the White House in 2000. In 2004 he stayed the course for a second term thanks to classic Klan-style intimidation tactics in battleground states that squeaked the Bush /Cheney team back in for a total eight years on Pennsylvania Avenue. Surprisingly enough some semblance of Planet Earth survived and in retrospect we will miss the factual misstatements and grammatical blunders of the Presidential Poster boy for “No Child Left Behind” education.
Before he leaves office U.S. citizens and people form around the world are finally getting their chance to tell President Bush what they think. The new website http://www.goodbyegeorgew.com is building the democracy that the Bush Administration has worked so hard to erode. While welcoming sarcasm it is providing a general forum to write to the soon-to-be-unemployed President and give him your candid opinion by speaking out.
Letters are actively being sought to put the democracy and free speech back into America despite the hard work of the Homeland security team to eradicate it forever.
Of course this Goodbye George W. site comes replete with great political memorabilia on sale for the “historical” collectors. But what caught my attention is that the founder, Kate Wheeler, who I recently spoke with, is not making a hard sell on her goods but is more interested in putting the participation back into democracy and American politics.
This farewell to Bush will later be published into an e-book so anyone leaving their comments will be a part of this historic catharsis and collector’s item in itself.
I hope that the incoming President will get a hint from this as well and seek his own avenues to stay in touch with the opinion of the people that he was elected to represent. Once in office it wouldn’t be a shock if he gives his ears principally to the likes of Citigroup and J.P. Morgan, who were among the 10 biggest donors to the Obama campaign, (despite his “no strings attached campaign” propaganda).
The real change America needs is a White House and Government that listen to the people and http://www.goodbyegeorgew.com is a step in the right direction. It gives ordinary space for people to send our opinions to Washington. Of course, in this case, we’re giving our opinion to the man who is packing his bags (hallelujah), but it’s a good start on bringing back real democracy.
Anyone interested in setting a new course for democracy in this country should click over to this website and write their own heartfelt send off to the man who stole the presidency and steered a course into the diplomatic dark ages.

I think you’re partly correct, raynman. I think what Craig is thinking is that, as a Republican, he can say anything he likes and then later claim that he did not say it.

Unfortunately for him, the court system operates on a different levels of reality than the mainstream media does.

Thank God the Bush War on Justice didn’t get that far.

  15. upside99 says:

Larry Craig, the Repug gift that keeps on giving.

Zooey, what’s the scuttlebutt in ID?

  16. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I’ll never forget how he greeted the reporters who showed up to hear his denials that he was gay (did they ask if he was bi-sexual?). His first words were, “Thank you for coming out today.” Too bad he didn’t.

Larry plead guilty to soliciting men in a public restroom for sex… which is not gay, nope, never has been gay.

The Court to Larry “Bend over, Larry”

Craig issued a statement of his displeasure in response.

Soooooo, it wasn’t good for him…?

    :-D

  21. fletc3her says:

The notion that a sitting U.S. Senator would claim that he did not understand his guilty plea and was denied access to adequate counsel is just impossible to believe. He was basically trying to use the same defense that might be used by an inner city youth who was given bad advice from an overworked public defender! I honestly lose more respect for Larry Craig for these absurd legal machinations than I do for the actual charges. Not that I had much respect for him to start with.

  22. Peter C says:

Listen to him scold the court:

“I am extremely disappointed by the action of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. I disagree with their conclusion and remain steadfast in my belief that nothing criminal or improper occurred at the Minneapolis airport. I maintain my innocence, and currently my attorneys and I are reviewing the decision and looking into the possibility of appealing. I would like to thank all of those who have continued to support me and my family throughout this difficult time.”

It sounds like he thinks he’s still an authority figure! Hah!

Back to obscurity for you! You aren’t in a position to scold an appeals court anymore!

  23. Wayne A. Schneider says:

It’s not like he was forced to sit in a police station until he finally agreed to plead guilty to the charge. The entire process took weeks, and he was free to go back and forth to his home in Idaho and to his job in DC. He told a judge he was guilty. That should pretty much be the end of it right there.

  24. Nevar says:

Would he still be able to get a liquor license?
He could open up a bar in Pocafello, call it the Tinkle Tap.

  25. Chocolate Jesus says:

My police suggestion to the Senator would be to try a more discrete form of gay dating, like Ebathroomstall.com

  26. dsmith says:

I still can’t forget the story told by the male escort Craig took into his own home, while his wife slept upstairs, sodomized him and then hustled him out of the back door, warning him that he was a very powerful man and that the young man should never try to tell anyone about what happened.

The escort went on to tell of the fecal matter smeared in his underwear after the sexual encounter. CRINGE!!!

  27. MrSquirrel says:

He’s right, you know. The law denies him the freedom to express his inner woman.

  28. kpaul says:

How many times must these guys who get caught doing this go before a judge to hear “Nope, still gay” before they stop the humiliation?
