In an interview with CBS today, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was asked how the U.S. image has fared under President Bush. Rice acknowledged that there were “some negative perceptions” but added that the U.S. is still quite popular:
But I’m always a little puzzled to find the two most populous countries in the world — China and India – even if you want to take the test of popularity, which by the way, I don’t think is the issue, but even if you wanted to take the test of popularity, the United States is very well regarded.
“Among several of America’s traditional allies, support has fallen steeply since 2002,” Pew noted in 2006. An April 2008 BBC poll of 17 countries found that views of US influence in the world are “predominantly negative”:

A November National Intelligence Council report predicted that U.S. influence will decline over the next two decades as China and India gain clout.
What’s depressing is that Condi Rice will likely live another 40 years, and be–for ALL that time–able to claim the honors accorded to a former “US Secretary of State.”
This entirely mediocre, chicken-legged slag will be fuukin REVERED (think Mad Albright), will be honored as a paragon of accomplishment for future generations.
GAWD!
December 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pmThe U.S. started being well regarded again around 10 p.m. EDT on Nov. 4.
December 9th, 2008 at 6:47 pmOver cooked and stale rice need’s to be thrown out with the rest of the criminal’s and put in jail….Blessings
December 9th, 2008 at 6:49 pmCondi is also the one who said, “Who would have known” that a terrorist attack might happen, even though she had a memo that was clearly marked BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK US and it was all laid out.
And it was an inside job.
So many posts about bold-faced liars today:

December 9th, 2008 at 6:51 pmNothing like wishful thinking to advance delusion.
December 9th, 2008 at 6:53 pmWhen the truth comes out let’s see Connie’s rating then. She is nothing more then a messager and piano player and her time as Secretary of State shows it. Must we not forget the famous statement Connie gave at the 9/11 hearings. As she couldn’t remember anything about Bin Laden but read the head of the memo that Bin Laden planed to attack the USA, which Connie was made to look like the liar she is. The rating much be for Fox news.
December 9th, 2008 at 6:56 pmUS popular? Why is it so embarrassing to admit you are an American while in another country? If traveling to other lands, it is best to pretend being Canadian until the horrors of the Bush administration wears off.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:05 pmI was standing in line to clear immigration and customs in Trinidad in late August. Standing next to me was a guy from Suriname. He saw the cover of my passport and said, “You know the United States is hated when even Barbados is pissed off at you.” I’m sure that had he said that to Condi she would have immediately spun it into everyone loving us. Rational people, however, are capable of hearing the message. Hopefully in 43 days when an adult takes over the White House the world’s disgust with us will come to a halt.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:05 pmeven if you want to take the test of popularity, which by the way, I don’t think is the issue
If the US WAS popular then it wouldn’t be an issue. But, alas, Condi doesn’t want to acknowledge the damage caused by what she was part of.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:31 pmWhat she won’t acknowledge is how unpopular throughout the world George W. Bush is.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:32 pmThis administration has simply lost all touch with reality. They reside on Planet Wingnut and any slight connection with the reality based universe anyting they say has is purely coincedental
December 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pmi got a size ten men’s prada shoe for condinasty…now only if i could get close enough to give it to her
December 9th, 2008 at 7:38 pmWell, afterall, a 32% approval rating is a good one in the Bush administration.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:52 pmI note they didn’t ask her about the August 6th PDB–”I thought it was a historical document”.
The facts are that Rice as NSA ignored not just ‘the’ terrorist threat, but a particular terrorist threat.
Then she became a propagandist of the worst sort.
She was just a functionary regarding Libya.
Then as Sec. State she didn’t produce one iota of progress in the Israeli/Palestinian ( to be fair its a difficult task, but she did nothing but accept the Israeli position. all the time.
She granted the Israelis complete freedom in their war with Lebanon, supplied them with cluster-bombs and didn’t say a damn thing when they were being used against civilians.
Any progress with Iran and Korea has been made due to leadership by other countries, not the US.
She’s had no influence in Iraq or Afghanistan
No relevant efforts were made regarding Darfur.
She’s ignored Mexico, despite the immigration issues.
She’s done nothing about toxic Chinese imports.
She jumped on the Bad Russia bandwagon when even to the civilian observer it looked like Georgia went to wart against civilians (a reprise of the Israeli/Lebanon war).
Once this administration is over, see how many invites from other nations Bush, Rice, Cheney, et cetera get to contribute their ‘wisdom’ and ’skilks’ to international issues.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:55 pmThe best they can hope for is some crappy junket in Tel Aviv or Azerbaijan.
On we go with the “rewrite-history” project. It ain’t gonna work and they might as well give up trying. Americans have awakened and they are no longer prone to accepting the lies that come from Republicans.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pmrice is another repug do nothing blow hard.

December 9th, 2008 at 8:45 pmWhat a wonderful reunion it will be when Bush and all his deceitful minions are crowded around the defense table at their trial in The Hague. Then the world would hold the US in high regard.

December 10th, 2008 at 1:27 amDumb Question: the 2008 showed a little upswing (statistical significance not indicated).
How much of that had to do with Obama’s candidacy ?
(Similar to the Market recovering as Obama showed that he was already gearing up for the economy )??????
