Beck: ‘I Was The Most Well-Researched Show’ On CNN, ‘They Forced Me To Document It’

beck.jpgDuring an interview with Time magazine’s Kate Pickert regarding his move to Fox News Channel, conservative talker Glenn Beck claimed that while he was a CNN, his show was “the most well-researched show on CNN”:

PICKERT: You gave up your show on CNN Headline News to launch a new talk show on Fox News in January. How will it be different?

BECK: I liked being over at CNN. … I also think they made me a better broadcaster because, believe me, I was the most well-researched show on CNN. They never let me get away with anything. At the time, it was like, come on guys, cut me some slack. But in retrospect…I know what I know because they forced me to document it.

In the intro to her writeup, Pickert appears to take Beck’s claim at face value. A cursory Google search, however, reveals that during his tenure at CNN, Beck’s show was fraught with exaggerated claims and outright falsehoods. In fact, it seems that no matter what politically-relevant topic Beck chose to discuss, we could count on Beck to get it wrong:

On Taxes: Falsely claimed the U.S. is the “number two” highest taxed country in the world.

On Energy: Falsely claimed “drilling in ANWR alone would yield 100 million barrels a day.”

On Global Warming: Falsely claimed that “the globe was the hottest” and “America’s temperature peaked” in 1934.

On Sub-prime Crisis: Falsely claimed that the sub-prime lenders were “blackmailed” into lending to the poor and minorities by community organizers.

On The Iraq War: Falsely claimed that the U.S. “went into Iraq…to prevent World War III.”

On the Middle East: Falsely claimed that Palestine is “being run now by Hezbollah,” President Abbas is an extremist.

On Obama: Falsely claimed that Fidel Castro endorsed Obama’s candidacy.

Given Beck’s principled disregard for the facts, it’s no wonder that Sean Hannity recently welcomed beck to Fox News Channel saying, “You’re a perfect fit, a great addition to family

    Beck is a liar’s liar.

Fox ‘not’ News is a flight of steps down for old Beckiboy – but he’ll feel right at home.

Yes Mr. Beck I never question a alcoholic and druggie just listen to the lies they tell and move on.

When ever I hear quotes from the likes of Hannity, Beck, Malkin, O’Lielly, etc., I often wonder if fetal-alcohol syndrome plays a bigger role than suspected.

  8. Chuck Feney says:

It must have been the rigors of his research that drove him into the fawning arms of FUX News. Hehe

  9. Robt says:

I’m sure Beck felt very strongly that CNN was stern on him to document and that made his imagination cause him to fell that he “was the most researched show”…….

I always had tolerance for the mentally sparse.!!
    Poor guy…………..

  10. katy says:

went to a movie, while in chicago recently… there was a preview of a movie with this idiot… not sure what it was about, but he had some statement about his own history/life the sounded so full of shite, it must be a fantasy…

    Those taskmasters!

  13. Mr. Evil says:

Yeah, Beck will be a perfect fit at Fox. No research required. No fact checking to worry about. All he has to do is to make sure his misinformation flows regularly from his rectal database.

  14. kasinca says:

I would accuse him of drinking again but it is obvious from his claim, he never got sober.

judging by that shit/tie combo he’s sporting in the picture, i’d have to agree with you.

At first I was thinking these are going to the best 8 yrs of my life. Peace, unity, compassion, tolerance, 21st all the way. I knew it will take my part, but hey. I really believed that the nasty stupid repugs would go far far away in shame.

I forgot about the “liberal” msm, they love to keep this bs flowing. No wonder The Sun tabloid outsells the best msm rag.

I’m expecting them to write about turd falling into a pond and is now having a frog baby. faux/drudge/WSJ/limpydic and the limphettes say it’s so.

“Beck: ‘I Was The Most Well-Researched Show’ On CNN, ‘They Forced Me To Document It’”

Next to whom? DJ Hughley’s show is more researched than your money losing “show.” How is CNN forcing you becky? making you color within the lines?

Well at least you don’t need your research skill at faux.

  22. jb says:

Is Beck married to Malkin or do they just pull “facts” from each others butts? Why aren’t there any thoughtful, informed Conservatives? ….never mind.

  23. curious says:

He is a perfect fit. Like all of Murdoch’s army of liars. He does fit in. Fox will need a bigger shovel to put the mess aroung. No sewer could boast such a roster of low life.

  24. Buckie Boy says:

Beck, you are a total sub-human sack of crap…buh bye…you can continue giving Sean those under the desk action he so enjoys.

  25. KayInMaine says:

Glenn Beck was also the guy who said Bill Ayers is scary, but then took a call from a guy who said he was scared of the Fairness Doctrine and suggested to Glenn that it’s time to form armed militias in this country to which Glenn agreed.

Oh the irony and ridiculousness of the republics of America!

  26. MapleStreet says:

I’ve seen this before in students. The poor students who turn in papers riddled with error, remark on the stringent requirements imposed on them to document.

The good students who turn in good papers see documentation as simply part of the process. A pain in the neck, but part of the process.

    Which one is Beck ?

  27. Liberal Kelly says:

Why is there not some sort of seal of approval for newscasters and/or news programs that certifies them as responsible, ethical and reliable? I only ask this because you all know as well as I do that millions of people listen to the “news” on the various programs on Fox News and they believe it to be absolute truth. I don’t think any form of media should be allowed to use the word “news” unless they are certified as responsible. And when I say “responsible” I mean TELL THE FRIGGIN’ TRUTH!

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I believe the republicans have secretly let our education system free fall so as to create a generation of idiots that will actual believe the shit they hear on Fox News.

    Sadly, you’re pretty close.

  29. dasm says:

Beck is an absolute idiot, a “sucker born every minute” showman, who cares nothing about facts or research. With Beck, it’s all his totally undocumented, bigoted opinions. He’s perfect for Fox. Also his smirks, giggles, sneers, eye-rolling, childish behavior will fit in with Fox so well. Fox – where the non-journalists, non-reporters, non-researchers, and non-fact-seekers go to retire.

  30. questioneverything says:

Give me a freaking break. Ted Turner should have known this would happen. I used to check headline news when I got home late and just wanted the headlines. No more. Headline news is no news, only fluff, crap (like Beck), and missing white females. CNN is an abomination waiting to implode.

  31. jb says:

I agree with Questioneverything. I too used to turn on headline news to catch the latest events, but no longer. It was on at the gym tonight and though the sound was down, they kept showing two young women embracing. Sick soft porn fluff, the Inquirer of TV.

  32. dbadass says:

Turn the tv off Lush…You’d be amazed how much clearer the mind is if you get rid of the cable…

  33. ElBruce says:

FAUX news is becoming the concentration camp for all wingnut media. Put them all there, then skip that channel. Problem solved.

  34. sectionop92 says:

Beck and Pinocchio both have stunning similarities in common.

You can automatically tell when they lie, one by their nose and the other by the excitement or heightened dread in their voice, usually about Democratic figures and/or related subjects. They both had loving parental figures, but one got swallowed by a whale and the other got swallowed by booze, drugs, Jesus and then took a ride on a magical do-gooder white elephant that hasn’t stopped. Last but not least, that they should both stay away from fire because one is made of wood and the other is entirely made of straw and looks like his grandmother dresses him to this day.

  35. Chocolate Jesus says:

    >Sadly, you’re pretty close.

Yep, stupid people are much, much easier to control. They dont question thier beleifs and when someone says something they agree with, they don’t have the mental capacity to even contemplate questioning that. Thats why they are disdainful of pretty much the entirety of higher education. They’d rather try and peddle thier BS to people like Tim Vacuouslick who thinks hes an expert on the “technological economy” because he made it out of high school and works at a coal plant..

  39. Lora says:

Bozo, re. #8, please do not insult the various women who served as Tokyo Rose by comparing them to Michelle Malice. First of all, Philippina-American Michelle wrote a book supporting racial profiling and the internment of innocent Japanese-Americans during WWII. Secondly, the only person among the various women who broadcasted as “Tokyo Rose” and was actually prosecuted by the US government after the war was a Japanese-American woman named Ida Toguri, a US citizen who happened to be visiting relatives in Japan when the war broke out. She apparently was not even particularly fond of Japan but was forced to broadcast as “Tokyo Rose.” To compare her to Michelle Malice is a great injustice.

I’m sure Glenny had piles and piles of research CNN forced him to do. It’s just that he used it for toilet paper, not to inform himself of the facts.

I always knew Beck was a moron, the dumbest thing on a newschannel next to Hannity. I didnt know he was THIS delusional though. No wonder LushMoron is a fan.

Ha, ha. The man is a ten dollar Nazi thug who continues to spew hatred every day. He should be in jail, not on the air.

  45. TheWatcher says:

I have a couple friends who like Glen Beck. They listen fairly often. When I complain about his outrageous falsehoods they claim to have never heard those particular statements, but they think he makes good sense most of the time. His biggest audience is white males, and the wealthy who feel they are repressed by minorities.

  46. hateful-left says:

Why doesn’t anyone on this website concentrate on real news rather than just bashing everyone who isn’t progressive or liberal? Are we all so blind to this as a huge distraction? This country is in a recession, in a war, moving towards socialism (bailouts) and has politicians becoming more and more corrupt everyday (not to mention the complete disregard for the Constitution by this administration and probably the next). All we can focus on is a guy who misspoke 7 times? The funny thing is when Beck makes these mistakes he almost always corrects them on the next airing of his show. We don’t all agree but there is no reason to hate each other so damn much.

and I mean come on every news anchor whether it is Hannity, Olberman or Cooper make mistakes, that is why we should all think critically and not just get our news from one source.

  47. villageatheist says:

This is what happens when you give a Mormon a microphone and their own show or spot on a show.
