Beck: No one is talking about ‘real issues’ like Sarah Palin’s church being burned down.

On his radio show today, conservative talker Glenn Beck complained that the media is not talking about the “real issues.” To make his point, Beck wondered allowed about why the media isn’t “leading every news cast” with the apparent arson incident at Gov. Sarah Palin’s church. He concluded with a plug for his new network, Fox News Channel, saying that in comparison to other morning news shows, Fox and Friends is like a “think tank.” Listen here:

Mr. Beck, we know think tanks…and Fox News is no “think tank.”

    – - If Beck means “think tank” as in a mastabatory, self-aggrandizing, vapid sort of way, well, yeah.

  2. The Republic of Stupidity says:

    Beck misspoke.

he meant to say, “Stink tank…”

  3. rmwarnick says:

Maybe Beck would like us all to hold a good, old-fashioned witch hunt to find the culprits.

  4. StratRat says:

Speaking of churches, will anyone ask Beck if Mormons really believe that Christ and Satan were brothers? That man and the dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time? That mormons must wear funny underpants?

  5. Badmoodman says:

    mastabatory

    – - I think I made up a word. Ahem, masturbatory.

Lay off of the meds, Beck, and quit trying to get attention from the public.

  8. RWeSafer says:

    Oh jeez…

    Think Tank???

    That’s too soft a softball pitch…

Boy, the right is in trouble.

  9. MontereyDean says:

What’s next? Hourly updates on what Michael Savage has to say?

  10. dbadass says:

When I think of the “real issues” the imaginary war on christmas is the first thing that comes to mind…

    ALLOWED = ALOUD

  12. lokidog says:

Fox and Friends is like a “think tank.”

Why, yes, as in “GW Bush is like a Rhodes Scholar”.

    Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……………

  13. Bob says:

Septic tank, maybe, but I don’t think beck knows what a think tank is. It isn’t an organization that tells people what to think, not something out to destory free thought.

  14. raynman says:

well, he’s sorta right…. Thinking is definitely in the tank at Fox News

  15. tom says:

Fox & Friends is a think tank, GlennyBoy?

    Yup . . . a washed-up sportscaster, a has-been weatherman and an over-the-hill beauty queen. Some think tank, cupcake.

  16. misshusseinmolly says:

Is Beck completely nuts? Granted, any act of arson is a concern — locally, if nothing else. It’s true that people who intentionally burn down churches or other houses of worship because they disagree with the doctrine taught within are hate criminals. And setting a building on fire when there are people in it is unconscionable.

However, all we really know about this case is that it was an act of arson. We don’t know who did it, or why. The case is under investigation, and until the investigators have a chance to do their job, we really won’t know any more than we do now.

The only possible reason to keep this as a “lead story” would be to fill the vacuum caused by a lack of factual information with speculation, presumption, and pompous indignation to satisfy a political agenda. Oh, and to keep Palin in the news past her sell-by date.

  17. pete says:

“Think tank”? Are you effing kidding me? If the IQ’s of the entire cast of FAUX and Friends were added together, then multiplied by Becky’s IQ, they would still be lucky to reach double digits.

  18. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Gee, if I didn’t know better, I’d say you people have no respect for Glen Beck whatsoever… nada, zilch, zip, zero… hehe…

  19. willc says:

WHAT IS UP WITH YOU SHEEP ON THINKPROGRESS? I check this site out all the time to get info. This headline is so misleading… I’m not backing up Glen Beck because i personally do not think he’s that great either but He SAYS!!! ‘I do not think this should be the top news story…” Yet all you sheep come on here and make comments like Thinkprogress.org didn’t just spoon feed you some propaganda.

    Yes.
    That was an easy question.

You must be exceptionally socially intuitive. :D

  22. ICEMAN says:

Where’s NAACP?? Sarah is the wrong color for anyone to care about who burned down her church. The race baiters get no publicity for white church burnings.

  23. Tired of being lied to says:

Glen – not ‘think tank’ but toilet tank.

  24. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

“Beck: No one is talking about ‘real issues’ like Sarah Palin’s church being burned down.”

First I’ve heard of it. And I was so ready to be DONE with Palin.

  25. Leftside Annie says:

Think tank? Don’t you mean “Fink Stank”…?

As for Sarah Palin’s church, who gives a tiny rat’s azz?

  26. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

    Where’s NAACP??

I don’t know what the National Association for the Advancement of Clothing for Palin has to do with this story.

    Priceless!

  28. lokidog says:

    ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!

And who is the first to bring race up?

A rightwingnut who whines about and plays a poor lil’ victim over race. So predictable.

    What a dumb f***.

    ICEMAN Says:

Is this troll really so stupid he does not know the church’s preacher is black?

I guess it is that dumb….

  30. MapleStreet says:

A think tank comes from the head.

I think Beck meant septic tank which comes from the other end.

  31. Jim says:

I just listened to the clip, and I haven’t a clue what Beck is arguing. First he suggests that the church arson story should lead off every news report (and this is apparently why Fox is supposed to be better than NBC), then he says at the end that the story shouldn’t lead off every news report. What’s his point? No idea. He has no idea.

  32. Shayne says:

Sarah Palin, “Why does Governor Blagojevic get all my attention? Maybe I can sell Ted Stevens seat.”

  33. Bobwurst says:

Nothing to see here folks, the church’s Christmas witch burning got a little out of control this year, nothing more.

The youth group was singing “chestnuts roasting on a burning witch” and the elder turned his back for a minute to get some more marshmallows, and poof! the witch’s blackened soul went up in a ball of rightous flame and the whole building went up.

If only they’e used traditional eskimo building materials this would have never happened…

  34. gummitch says:

Beck is still convinced he can score with Sarah. He probably sent her a copy of the audio so she could hear how he’s got her, er, back.

  35. jpopphan says:

While I don’t condone the burning of churches, the arson story in Wasilla is not national news. Palin’s 15 minutes are up, and so just because it is her church does not make it newsworthy outside of Alaska.

Beck is trying to spin this into a “Christians are being persecuted” story. As if. Turns out, many “Christians” are the ones dishing out most of the discrimination!

Fox and Friends = think tank? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

    Give me a break, Beck.

  36. dbadass says:

ICEMAN=little white guy afraid of the black guy…

  37. Bobwurst says:

Yo ICEMAN, you had a superbad fro back in the day. How was it playin with that red white and blue ball?

  38. dasm says:

Uh, Glenn, it didn’t burn down. It was damaged somewhat by fire. As usual facts don’t get in your way.

  39. Bobwurst says:

    jpopphan Says:
While I don’t condone the burning of churches…

What’s your opinion on the burning of cults? palin believes in witches, not the wicca kind, the wicked witch of the west kind. What if it’s a self-inflicted burn, they could have been burning books ya know. Wouldn’t that be a hoot. If they burned down their church because of a bonfire of Harry Potter books.

  40. wisedup says:

Gee…your right beck, the drunk on the street corner told me that turkeys with matches were seen running away from the fire.

  41. wiley says:

Then they could spend hours nattering on about the war on Christians and the Republican party. It is getting harder for them to find empty events to fill with empty banter. Next—

    “Hey look a chicken!”

  42. Bobwurst says:

it’s not Fox’s fault that there’s been a dearth of missing blonde girls lately…

  43. shoeless says:

    Surely he meant “stink tank”.

  44. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Fox and Friends is like a “think tank?” Those three people don’t have a complete brain between all three of them!! Beck claims to be a recovering alcoholic, but I sometimes wonder if he hasn’t been back on the juice for some time now. As for the arson at Palin’s church, it’s hardly a national story just because that nitwit attends there.

  45. Bozo The Neoclown says:

i agree with glenn beck one million percent, let’s talk about this issue. it was reported on the cnn website the church held services at a local middle school. yes, glenn, let’s talk about whole serperation of church and state and how the north slope whore overlooked it so her store front charismatic cult had a place to speak in tongue to snakes.

  46. had enough says:

No media attention to Palin’s church burning down?

Because Palin is such a nut job sociopath liar, my first impression of that story is

“Maybe Palin had something to do with it for insurance money or for media attention”

From what I have read, Bristol Palin’s baby is due Dec. 18… If no baby happens, Sarah will once again get her media attention.

  47. dbadass says:

How come no one ever gives a shit when my santaria shrine burns down or my neighbors weird satanic shit goes all haywire?

  48. dumbstruck says:

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if FOX News or Republicans or Neocons or Palin herself or even all of the above didn’t have a hand in bombing that church to keep palin in the limelight.

  49. wizard2000 says:

I believe a polar bear and Alaskan wolf were seen near Palin’s church just before the fire started…with the wolf carrying some firewood in his jaws and the polar bear holding a big box of matches in his paws.

  50. republicanSScareme says:

Faux News is a think tank if you think like a rat.

  51. Chocolate Jesus says:

Sorry ScaryStalinSarah, nobodys buying your little “reichstag fire” please for attention..while i highly doubt the governess set it herself, I can imagine one of either her freakiskly fanatical followers or paid goons doing this to try and get her sympathy..

  52. Anthony Look says:

Beck is bizarre, anxiety driven and intellectually maybe possible\y about average; but, he sure tries to prove that he isn’t par to even partisan talking point liars. He’s seems to be on his own tangent and apparently genuinely just weird.

  53. ElBruce says:

Sounds like he said “drink tank” to me.

  54. cd says:

    December 15th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

And I can imagine that some dick atheist did this hoping to start a trend but unlike you I don’t pretend to know who did it or why.

  55. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

It was an act of God.

  56. Chocolate Jesus says:

    >We don’t know who did it, or why.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstag_fire

Some of the behind the scenes powers are DESPARATE, ABSOLUTELY DESPARATE, to make a martyr out of their dear lady sara, as she is asbolutely an empty, “charismatic” puppet who could be so easily manipulated by behind the scenes power brokers that she would make dumbya look like a thoughtful and independent leader…

  57. GL2814 says:

A church burned down in my hometown just last week. Where is Glen Beck’s uproar over that?

Oh, that’s right. It was an African-American church. Pay it no mind.

  58. cd says:

    December 16th, 2008 at 4:52 am

You mean you’re speculating based on your paranoid delusions.

BTW has it not accured to you that the point of a black flag attack is to gain power hence if that was the goal the church would have been burned in the days leading up to the election and not month(s) afterwards?

PS sorry to hear about your towns church GL2814.

    Where did this happen?

  59. SPQR says:

Apparently Beck hasn’t heard the follow up.

Palin’s pastor was trying to ’smoke out’ an unrepentant, int he tank, gay, marxist witch, and ended up burning the whole church down! Oops.

  60. Cal Malenky says:

The church wasn’t burned down. A fire was set in the office. Aside from the smoky smell, the rest of the church wasn’t affected.
    Get some perspective, Beck.
