After Hasselbeck whines of being shut out, White House invites her to Christmas party.

hasselbeck.gifDuring yesterday’s live taping of The View, conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck whined that she hadn’t received an invitation to the White House Christmas party. “Maybe I didn’t do enough for the Republican party this year,” she said. “I love Christmas cards I love getting them. … No invitation this year.” Soon after the show ended, the White House called to apologize and issued her an invitation:

“Following today’s live show, Elisabeth received a call from the The White House, and they both had a great conversation,” Karl T. Nilsson, the executive publicity director of The View told Usmagazine.com. “The President’s office apologized and explained that she and her husband were indeed invited to the White House for Christmas and were sorry that it did not arrive. It was simply an oversight.”

Is that an updated Devo Spud Collar she is wearing?

  2. stateofthedivision says:

Dang, Elizabeth! Wasn’t Dover Sole with Queen Elizabeth alongside 37 high dollar Bush donors enough?

Journalist, my arse… Lizzy dined in George Bush’s version of the Clinton Lincoln Bedroom and said not a peep.

  3. tomcat27834 says:

A Hasselbeck…does that come with its own batteries or wind-up?

With this dinghy chick….”whine” up would be appropriate.

  4. Razor_Boy says:

Only this DUMBO from The View was invited?
Bush won’t have someone smart like Joy Behar.

  5. kasinca says:

This bottled blonde bimbo is as newsworth as the PTA Mom from AK. What do you have to say about the thugs robbing Wall Street?

  6. calavzma says:

oversight…. at least no one got invaded.
    hahaha

  7. misshusseinmolly says:

This is hardly an earth-shattering news story, but it kind of serves as a reminder to those who have invested all their networking energy in the GOP that this is their last chance to schmooze with the powerful. If you didn’t get an invitation to the White House Christmas party this year, you’d better speak up — next year it will be an entirely different crowd.

  8. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

I heard that every time a Hasselbeck whines, a fallen angel gets a right-wing.

  9. jeblucas says:

oversight…. at least no one got invaded./blockquote>
    That’s great.

I’m going to have to go with the crowd here though–this hardly raises my hackles. People whine all the time about this kind of stuff and get what they want. Big deal.

  10. Leftside Annie says:

    Oh, fer the luvva Jebus!!

    QUITCHER WHINING, LIZZIE!!

  11. dbadass says:

For real is that like one of those Victorian collar things you have to put on the dog to keep it from knawing at the stitches?

The Bush administration isn’t even competent enough to send out all the invitations to a party.

Heh…Lizzie was/is the poisonous snake on survivor. She just hid her fangs only to rear them on the View.

Oh goody, let the scattered brained peroxide blonde join the rest of the turds at the bottom of the bowl.

  17. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Just wondering, At the end of the White House Christmas party do all of the guests get to throw their shoes at little king pissypants??

  19. Jackie says:

She did do her best by campaigning with bimbo Sarah and of course she cried on the Show in hopes of getting votes for McCain/Palin. Now let’s see if Elizabeth and her lam duck husband get an invitation to the Bush War Crimes Trial at the United Nations. It’s good to have corrupt friends it tells alot about you.

  20. pax says:

I really don’ like the rhetoric that she shouts from her mouth as the next person but i really think some of the above sexist remarks are uncalled for! Grow up boys and watch your “Girls gone Wild” tapes in the privacy of your parent’s basement!

  21. paleolib says:

I can’t believe anyone would be upset about being left off the guest list for Team Titanic Failure’s last Christmas party. That is like complaining that Bernie Madoff refused to manage your life savings.

  22. ElBruce says:

“Did enough for the Republican party?” You mean other than making them look like histrionic morons on TV?

  23. Zooey says:

Forcing an invitation to a party is just sad and desperate — and SO junior high.

  24. rmwarnick says:

The definition of dumb as a box of rocks: anyone who wants an invitattion to Bush’s White House now, after eight years of misrule.

Figures the repugs would lie like the devil concerning Christmas invitations. It’s so fitting.

How appropriate, considering that it will be a sad and desperate party.

  28. Art says:

    HEY!! I WASN’T INVITED EITHER!!

  29. liberalinaredstate says:

Apparently little miss Elizabeth receives Christmas cards from Cheney…That in itself speaks volumns. After all, the poor woman/child whined incessantly about the unfair treatment her friend Palin was getting……and she’s a favorite of Hannitys…..Connecting the dots anyone? or should I say dolts

  30. LibertyLover says:

Maybe they only invited her so her husband could show up? Does hubby share her Republican views?

  31. IanBarton says:

Wow… the sexism is pretty thick in this thread. Nice and progressive!

  32. LibertyLover says:

Don’t know why anyone is surprised by this woman’s views. After all, she went on a reality show called “Survivor” in which the object is to work together only long enough until you can screw everyone else. Sounds like Republican values to me.

  33. WaltinTexas says:

    She’ll definitely drink the punch.

  34. dbadass says:

lighten up Ian. You know as well as I do that that thing would look stupid on him too…

  35. Michael Lafferty says:

    Really?

I haven’t gotten a White House Christmas Card since the Nixon days, and you don’t see me complaining…

MEMO TO: the producers of The View

Please toss this whiny, little partisan hack. Please? And, Elisabeth: for God’s sake, STFU. That is SO middle school…

  36. Uncle Ho says:

Damn! They didn’t invite me either, though I can’t imagine why. I would thoughtfully bring rotten eggs, vegetables, and shoes(after stepping in dog shit) to hurl at my host.

  37. Zooey says:

    December 17th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Really? Please point out any sexism on this thread.

Or are you just a pantywaist dump & run troll?

  38. DvlsAdvocat says:

This is the administration that is doling out billions of dollars in bailouts, and they don’t even have enough oversight in their Christmas party invitations to avoid missing “important people” like Lizzie?

  39. motorfingaz says:

It will be the last White House party her dumb ass will be invited to for a long time!!

  40. APEC not OPEC says:

The WH watches The View? Why,to make sure Elizabeth got the talking points memo? That big fight with Rosie happened right after another visit to the WH just after Rosie was taped talking to the audience about World Trade Center Building 7’s collapse. Hmmmm.

  41. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

If I were Elisabeth, I wouldn’t be caught dead at a Bush Admin. Christmas Party!! I wouldn’t be able to wrap my beautiful mind around the neocon rhetoric.

  42. Bozo The Neoclown says:

why isn’t her old man fighting the good fight in iraq? he looks able bodied, although kinda “swishy” in the picture

  43. marlow says:

Enjoy it, hag. A final celebration with the Man Who Broke America. Someday you’ll tell your grandchildren about it; hopefully they’ll have the good sense to pelt you with something nasty.

  44. IanBarton says:

    Zooey says:

Really? Point out any sexism in this thread

    Alright, then.

Post number six described her as a bimbo, a truly lazy insult given all of the horrible things she stands for. I mean, seriously, given her inability to put forth political arguments that aren’t conservative talking points, shouldn’t the commenters at ThinkProgress be able to express contempt for her without reducing her to a sexual object?

Poster number fourteen wonders whether ‘I wonder if I get her drunk,,,,will she show my her tits?????‘ to which poster number sixteen responds ‘Probably; and just think what those thick lips would do for you.‘, as if getting someone intoxicated with the intent to take advantage of them sexually isn’t, at the very least, sexual assault, if not rape. Considering that one in six women will experience sexual assault or rape in their lifetimes, and I know and care about well more than six women, the fact that such situations are joked about in a progressive blog is reassuring.

Poster number twenty called Sarah Palin a bimbo, and considering the almost innumerable reason to find her an altogether disreputable human being, the fact that yet another poster couldn’t come up with something better than an insult intended to reduce the target to a sexual object is highly sexist.

Finally, in trying to claim that the thread had no sexism in it, you used a term that is supposed to be derogatory by implying that I am effeminate, as if being feminine was something to be ashamed of.

That about sums it up for this thread, I think.

  45. dbadass says:

I suppose if you are trying to force your case, you could claim that5 or was it 6 comments out of close to 50 sums up a thread. I smell agenda….

  46. Zooey says:

Gee whiz, Icy. Thank for going to all that trouble.

Sorry about the “pantywaist” comment. I’ll amend that statement to read, “Or are you just a chafed, piss-soaked, dump & run troll?”

  47. IanBarton says:

When I made my comment, it was a smaller thread. I was also not the only person to recognize the sexist nature of the comments.

As for an agenda, if you were to see a commenter praising the Iraq war, or raving against homosexuality, wouldn’t you call them out on it? Feminism is part of progressivism, so when I see sexism in a place that is supposed to be progressive, I call it out.

  48. Zooey says:

Sorry again, Ian. I got your name wrong. How terribly rude. Y’all just look so much alike, ya know?

  49. Zooey says:

It’s called “humor,” Ian. I understand you may not be familiar with the concept.

Although I am a lifelong feminist, I have retained the ability to tell the difference between blowing off steam, and an outright attack on feminine sensibilities.

Now, what do you think about Ms Hasselbeck’s support of the criminal Bush administration (i.e. corruption, torture, etc.), and palling around with, and support of, the stunningly inept Alaska governor?

  50. IanBarton says:

Truly, Zooey, the power of your words and the level of your discourse have left me stunned. Your skillful refutation of my post leaves me without any possible way to respond.

Also, Icy? Who are you talking about?

  51. Zooey says:

Sarcasm, Ian? How very unlike you.

I’M supposed to be the rude one here.

  52. dbadass says:

    Ian:
Is it sexist to suggest that outfit is silly at best?

  53. Zooey says:

    db,
I think it’s ok, as long as you suggest that her escort’s outfit is silly as well.

    Fair & balanced, dontcha know?

  54. IanBarton says:

Ah, yes. Rape is a very hilarious subject.

Regarding Ms. Hasselbeck, I find her at the very least horribly ignorant, and her inablity to provide anything to the discourse of The View beyond simple talking points is an embarrasment to the show, in my opinion. I only started watching it a couple of months ago when I started going to the gym shortly before it comes on, when the focus of the political section was on the campaign, and I don’t really know about her views beyond how she responded to whatever topic came up about it then. That she blindly defended McCain and Palin on just about every subject, in not all, makes my opinion of her poor. Her obstinacy regarding Obama and his ‘palling around with terrorists’ was particularly galling.

I don’t know about her positions regarding many of Bush’s policies, but I am against torture and corruption as much as every other reasoning person. I voted proudly voted for Barack Obama, as little good as it did in Texas, I was horrified when it looked like Ted Stevens might retain his Senate seat even after being convicted of corruption, I’m shorty going to become a card-carrying member of the ACLU, and all that.

  55. dbadass says:

Rape? Did I miss something? The plant or the act?

  56. roscoe says:

If she dances with chimpy she better look out for Michelle Bachmann or she might get a smack down from the ding bat.

  57. dbadass says:

Oh jeez, ding bat is certainly gonna cost us…

  58. Zooey says:

Yeah, it is funny that canola used to be called rape, but I’m not sure why you’re bringing it up in this context, Ian.

Seriously, if you are accusing me of making some sort of rape joke, we can no longer be friends.

  59. IanBarton says:

I was referring to the ‘joke’ between NOLIESPLEASE and Razor_Boy at 14 and 16, not accusing you. I think that this conversation is getting muddled by my slow response time.

  60. curious says:

This woman is an example of just where and who in the media have had access to the White house.I case anyone has forgotten, remember when the administration invited every right wing talking head to the White house?

All of Fox and many others of right wing print as well. And not one progressive or liberal. Why? Because the right have always been the Propaganda arm of this government. Another law broken, the one that does not allow propaganda by the government on American soil. The sound of another law long ago broken.

She really is a mess. Whiner.

  61. dbadass says:

It’s all good Ian. Just passing time…

  62. darladooner says:

why is TP covering such nonsense? can we move on to more important matters, please?

  63. calavzma says:

    ian is awfully sensitive.

sense when does calling someone a bimbo mean you’re making them a sexual object. It certainly means you’re calling them an idiot, but sexist? please. If this is the case then my female friends are some of the most sexist people i know.

you have a case of sexism on a few posts… but only if you can’t take a joke, part of being an effective promoter of feminism is knowing when to pick your battles and not nit-pick, otherwise even people who agree with you will think you’re being ridiculous… which you are ian, you’re being ridiculous.
