Blagojevich: ‘I will fight, I will fight, I will fight until I take my last breath.’

In his first appearance since being accused of engaging in a “political corruption crime spree,” Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich defiantly rejected the many calls for him to resign from office. Blagojevich insisted that he would “fight” the “political lynch mob”:

I’m here to tell you right off the bat that I am not guilty of any criminal wrongdoing, that I intend to stay on the job, and I will fight this thing every step of the way. I will fight, I will fight, I will fight until I take my last breath. I have done nothing wrong. … And I’m not going to quit a job that people hired me to do because of false accusations and a political lynch mob.

Watch it:

“I am dying to tell you how innocent I am,” he said. “I am absolutely certain I will be vindicated.”

Update Blagojevich cited Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” in his defense. Perhaps another of Kipling’s works “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” -- story of a mongoose who defeats a snake -- would have been more appropriate.

G-Rod might have a point as right now Bush is blackmailing Congress to get another 350 billion to bring the grand total of bailout money to 1 Trillion dollars. Yes G-Rod was taught old school politics that most Law Makers are using right now. Ask Pelosi how her husband got his big contract. Yes she was told to keep the impeachment of Bush off the table and she did. Feinstein’s husband got his contract for her cooperation in pushing threw the current AG. Dodd now has idea that getting 200,000 dollars in cash from the subprime fraud was wrong he just thought they were giving him money. Harry Reid got his land and sold it for big profit and now doesn’t want to talk about it. Most of these Law Makers were at Duke Cummingham’s sex/card parties to seal corrupt deals with the famous pay to play.
Obama said DC would have to change but not body listened. Jackson Jr. didn’t want to play the old school games and others don’t play but those old timers play it well.

AG Lisa Madigan filed a complaint with the court that a first year law student knows wouldn’t be allowed. Now one can only ask is she that dumb or was it show boating time. Her Father Michael Madigan and old school politicial player rushed in for the fix in hopes of pushing his daughter in the Govenor’s office. Even the Court refuse to answer AG Madigan’s complaint it was so stupid and gramer school. If the AG doen’t know law how did she get the job. Yes the old fashion way pay to play. No problem as the Ashcrof refuse to handle the case of campaign fraud and it just disappeared like other things have over the 8 years of crme wave.

Sounds like a protege of Joe Hunt, a la billionaire boys club. I saw he still maintains his innocence.

Rod says “I am dying to tell you how innocent I am.” ‘’I will fight, I will fight, I will fight until I take my last breath.’’

So, how soon will this last breath be?

  7. ElBruce says:

Yeah, go ahead and keep quoting John McCain from his miserably failed campaign. That’ll help ya.

  8. Keltoi at Night says:

    Wow….let ‘er go, G-Rod!

Thanks for smearing feces on what would otherwise be a great national moment. Hope Fitz nails your ass to the wall, rugboy.

    – - Kudos Rod, you’re this year’s winner of the Herman Melville Award and the Star Trek 2; The Wrath of Khan quote:

“To the last, I will grapple with thee… from Hell’s heart, I stab at thee! For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee!”

Do us all a favor Blago… find a brick wall, put a bag over your head, and just start punching.

Delusional. Tapes, remember? And it’s not just the “selling of a senate seat” that’s at issue here. Just the day before he was arrested, he said at a press conference that “nothing but sunshine is hanging over my head.” Actually, to call him delusional would be incorrect, since it would imply an actual mental illness. I think the guy is just an old-fashioned sociopath. Not really treatable and not curable. Compared to Bush and Cheney, both of whom I think are far more serious socipaths, he’s fairly harmless…except while he’s in any position of possible power…especially elected power. Honestly, this kind of person populates many of the largest corporations in our country..probably world-wide actually. They always eventually causes harm to others, it’s just a matter of degree of harm.

  15. Anonymouse says:

If I were a hyper-partisan Republican, hoping to generate a long and ugly scandal at the onset of Democratic control over both Congress and the White House, I’d probably offer Blago a big pile of money to do exactly what he’s doing now.

Or possibly a share in my casino business …

  16. paleolib says:

Dude, your lawyer’s defense strategy seems to be aimed at trying to suppress the incredibly incriminating audiotape of you soliciting bribes. That is a legitemate tactic but it hardly means you are clean. Perhaps you can visit the prison library and learn the difference between “not guilty” and “innocent”.

  17. Game of Life says:

The reason he is staying on is because of his paycheck. If he could quit and get paid he would do that. he is only concern for his and his wife’s ass. This guy is the pits.

Next week will be a different story when Fitzgerald slaps the charges on his ass.

  18. misshusseinmolly says:

That’s your choice, Rod — and certainly your right as an American. You will most likely be indicted, you will receive your fair trial, and unless you have one heckuva lawyer you will be convicted and hauled off to prison.

Even if your lawyer is good enough to get you off on a technicality or a reasonable doubt, your governorship is toast. How do you expect to get anything accomplished with no credibility whatsoever? Remember, you were caught on tape trying to sell a Senate seat. Even if your lawyer can get that thrown out of court, people aren’t going to forget that.

Only if you can be completely exonerated in the court of public opinion (that would be “innocent” instead of merely “not guilty”) can you even hope of getting your reputation back. And yes, that will require quite a fight.

Methinks Fitz acted too quick. Maybe to save Jessie Jr. Blogo talks in Chicago Pol Speak. Crass for sure, but not necessarily illegal. No politician makes a decision without weighing “whats in it for me”.

i.e. Why else would Obama ask Rick Warren to give the inaugural invocation. He could have picked anybody. He made the same type of political/personal calculation as Blogo.

They really needed to bust him after the appointment and payoff . He could very well walk.

  22. RUCerious says:

    What a freakin loser.
Even if he appoints someone, it’s dead certain the Senate won’t seat he/she.
His political career is dead. And the rotting carcass is starting to really stink.

  23. RUCerious says:

    OK, him/her. Bye Bye Blaggy!

  24. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

Remove this psychopathic clown from power as soon as possible. He sounds delusional to me. What is wrong with politicians these days? Many of them seem to be power-mad. What ever happened to the concept of performing public service? Ever since Ronald Reagan got into the Oval Office and started spouting his “greed is good” mantra, things in the USA have gone down hill… The highways have gone unrepaired. The college tuition fees have gone through the roof and the notion of “the common good” has been largely considered “quaint.” Maybe President Obama can lead us out of this moral quagmire.

No more bailout billions to Paulson until President Obama is sworn in and takes office.

  27. Leftside Annie says:

I’m curious, guys – did any money actually change hands? Was there any actual quid-pro-quo between Blago and anyone else that we know of…?

Or is it all just talk? And is just talk a crime?

I’m thinking it might be possible that Fitz did pop his cork a little too early – before an actual crime was committed.

    Anyone?

  28. pete says:

    Leftside Annie:

I think it falls under the broad heading of “conspiracy”.

  29. bula says:

    Leftside Annie:

We really don’t know yet. Last time I checked talking out your as@ was not a crime. If they have a smoking gun, I not sure why they led with trash talk tapes. Sounds to me like they are trying to build up a weak case.

They should of nailed him after the transaction was complete. Then you get 2 felons for the price of one! 1 Senator and 1 Governor.

  30. Nevar says:

    bula…
If you are imagining there would have been a transaction, then you are blowing out your a$$.
Which, as you have stated, is not a crime, and something we all enjoy here from time to time.
Blago has been under investigation for 3 years. The tipping point may have been his solicitation of bribes for the Senate seat.
He is out of control, and everyone realizes that.

  31. bula says:

    Nevar

What you know and what you can convict on are often 2 different things ( see OJ trial #1). The fact that they have been investigating him for 3 years without an indictment means he may not be as dumb as he looks. Remember, his father-in-law is Dick Mell, a well known machine pol. Politics in Chicago is a full contact sport.

If he made the appointment, accepted the quid pro quo, that and the wiretaps would have sent 2 to Federal Holiday Inn….

  32. Leftside Annie says:

That was the impression I got from the attorney Blago hired, i.e., that it was all talk and no do. And I have no idea if that does constitute a “conspiracy”.

I don’t know much about him; just what I’ve heard on the news, and it occurred to me that Fitz might have jumped the gun.

    .

    i still think it’s a brain tumor.

  36. techsong says:

Guess he will have to fight himself. His own words on tape. Just like the mobsters he will fall.

  37. RUCerious says:

My take is that the solicitation is the crime, and they’ve got lots of the solicitizationisms on tape.

  38. Musk says:

LOL, Blago is sooo screwed. All his office is to him, now, is leverage.

  39. CageyCretin says:
