Limbaugh’s Crazy Conspiracy Theory: Democrats Started The Economic Crisis To Help Elect Obama

limbaugharm.jpg Today, the New York Times had an article about how right-wing talk radio is gearing up to aggressively go after President-elect Obama over the next four years. Rush Limbaugh demonstrated his commitment to this crusade today on his radio show by blaming Democrats — especially Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) — for starting the current economic crisis.

Here’s how Limbaugh’s conspiracy theory goes: Schumer caused on run on IndyMac bank in California this summer, in order to create a feeling of financial panic amongst the public. Democrats then capitalized on this panic with electoral wins in the White House and Congress. The purpose of gaining this power, according to Limbaugh, was to nationalize U.S. industries:

LIMBAUGH: Who’s benefiting? Aside from the people being bailed out. The Democrat party and Barack Obama are benefiting.

They got elected, they increased their numbers in the House, they increased their numbers in the Senate, they got the White House now, and they’ve got a crisis that people think can only be fixed with the all-mighty and powerful government interceding to save this or to save that, when in fact, the government is going to nationalize the automobile industry. It’s going to nationalize some banks. It’s going to nationalize the mortgage industry, and may end up nationalizing the automobile industry.

Listen here:

This theory is quickly becoming a right-wing favorite. Karl Rove and Bill O’Reilly also recently claimed that the economic crisis was deliberately manufactured — not by Democrats but by journalists who wanted to help elect Obama.

The economic crisis certainly wasn’t created within a five-month period, as these conservatives are claiming. As the New York Times wrote yesterday, the current situation was, in fact, long fueled by President Bush’s economic policies:

From his earliest days in office, Mr. Bush paired his belief that Americans do best when they own their own home with his conviction that markets do best when let alone. [...]

As early as 2006, top advisers to Mr. Bush dismissed warnings from people inside and outside the White House that housing prices were inflated and that a foreclosure crisis was looming. And when the economy deteriorated, Mr. Bush and his team misdiagnosed the reasons and scope of the downturn; as recently as February, for example, Mr. Bush was still calling it a “rough patch.”

CAP’s Tim Westrich has more on how the “root cause of the financial mess is the hands-off approach towards mortgage and finance markets by the Bush administration, and its lack of action when a disaster was imminent.” (HT: TP reader DK)

Transcript:

LIMBAUGH: Back to this October surprise. I am just wondering — as I say, it can’t be proven — I’m just wondering if a lot of this was by design to create economic panic. Remember now — the Iraq war had dominated everything, and the economy was said to no longer be an issue in the campaign for the first time. Corruption, other things were — ethics (well, the Republicans had those problems) — but the economy wasn’t. They wanted to create economic crisis, a mindset of this.

So Chuck Schumer starts a run — a $1.3 billion run on IndyMac, and then all of a sudden, look what we learn! All these mortgages are worthless. All the mortgage derivatives and the mortgage-backed assets are worthless. Everything was worthless. There was no there there. Every institution, every guy in the institution was an empty suit. We had to bail out this, we had to bail out that; it didn’t help. I just wonder if what was a planned attempt to scare people economically — starting a run on the bank, doing this, that, and the other thing — has spun so far out of control, it’s gone so far beyond what the intention was, just to win an election, that nobody knows what to do about it.

The only mitigating argument against is that the number one, the primary beneficiary of this — and you have to look that even in an economic collapse like ours there are beneficiaries — Who’s benefiting? Aside from the people being bailed out. The Democrat party and Barack Obama are benefiting.

They got elected, they increased their numbers in the House, they increased their numbers in the Senate, they got the White House now, and they’ve got a crisis that people think can only be fixed with the all-mighty and powerful government interceding to save this or to save that, when in fact, the government is going to nationalize the automobile industry. It’s going to nationalize some banks. It’s going to nationalize the mortgage industry, and may end up nationalizing the automobile industry. [...]

So the Obama team and the Democrat party are benefiting tremendously from this, even if it has spun out of control. It’s spun out of control, but they’ll make due with a new crisis they created a la Rahm Emanuel. But the reason I think it has spun a little out of control and gone a little further than they intended is that even the Obama people are saying, “Hey, it’s going to be really bad for a really long time.”

  2. dasm says:

Rove, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, and the rest are the worst enemies Republicans have. Their hateful, bigoted, and often stupid lies will keep the GOP in the tank, because the vast majority of people think they are all dishonest fools.

  3. sacopenapa says:

‘Actually, the Democrats placed Bush in power for 8 years in order to win the election’! (sarcasm!)

  4. pax says:

The problem is many ignorant people listen to Limpballs and crew. And they believe them!

  5. misshusseinmolly says:

Um…if Democrats REALLY had this much power, why would we have to worry about winning elections? We could just run the country the way we wanted to without worrying about constitutional organization and power.

And Democrats MUST have this much power, because the rightwing nutcases like Limbaugh have been claiming their audiences should be very, very afraid of us even when we weren’t controlling even one branch of government. Conversely, the GOP must be terribly weak in their eyes, since the world as we know it will cease to exist unless the GOP is controlling ALL branches of government. Go figure.

  6. Leftside Annie says:

So…what is El Rushbo’s explanation for the last EIGHT flarking YEARS???

    What a colossal asshat.

    – - Make up your mind Rush, either the Democrats are omnipotent (see above) or impotent.

  8. 666lattes says:

Wasn’t it Bush who nationalized those industries? Or, did the memo go out that he is now officially considered a “Democrat” by the right-wing?

This “theory” would be funny if millions of people who don’t know any better didn’t believe everything this awful man says.

  9. celtic cynic says:

Limpdick needs to stay away from the hard stuff while taking “prescription” pain-killers. It’s probably too late, but it’s really affecting his little mind.

  10. 49erDem says:

I remember that Limbaugh began his first program after the inaugeration of Clinton with “America held hostage, Day 1!!” His theory then was that Ross Perot’s third party race unfairly gave the election to Clinton and so Clinton was somehow not worthy of respect as President.

This is his game and he’s running it. He’s there for the bitter, angry a-holes among us – they’re his demographic.

  11. tom says:

Limpballs and Little Seanie’s strategy is pretty clear. They are going to piss and moan and make stuff up for the next eight years because they have nothing else to do. Their hope is that they can so thoroughly tick off the democrats that someone will suggest reinstituting the fairness doctrine. After that happens, they will cry fowl, garner sympathy amongst their brain-dead followers and become martyrs for the cause of free speech.

  12. 49erDem says:

What an inventive new way to blame the Democrats for their own screw-ups. My compliments to Rush’s writers.

Incidentally, are wingers mad at Rush for helping Obama become President (when he urged his dittoheads to vote for Obama in the Democratic primary)? Is Rush remorseful over this? Just kidding.

  15. 666lattes says:

I must confess (because I really need to get this off of my chest): I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh… I was in middle school and I came across his radio show one morning by accident.

It was appealing to me then because it opened my mind to see that things weren’t at all what they seemed as being reported by major news sources and in school.

That’s how he hooks so many people who don’t know any better. He gives the feeling that he’s letting you in on something those in power aren’t going to tell you. It didn’t take me long (6 weeks in fact) to realize that this hate-filled man was lying to me and using my ignorance against me.

As messed up as he is, I will never forget the invaluable lessons that Rush taught me (in the following order):

    1) not everything is how it seems

    2) just because it’s on the radio/tv doesn’t make it true

Thanks Rush! I am forever indebted to your dishonesty!

  16. tarazan says:

So Limbuagh thinks that the crisis is artificial. So to him all these home foreclosures and banks failures were just an act.
The crisis is not new…it has been with us for sometime with no actions from Bush administration.
Republicans refused to paint the economic picture other than rosy one for so many years, until no longer such description became fit and their only remedy was to cut the rich man tax as the only solution.

    The case is simple,
We borrow more than what we produce, and the purchase power of consumers are shrinking while personal and governmental debt is rising.
Health cost, school cost,Insurance and many others ate whatever left from consumers dollars to spend.

Rush does not feel the pain the general public is feeling now.
He is very wealthy man usning his lying tongue to make millions of dollars and that’s why he thinks it is a conspiracy and he is selling such claim he is making to his listeners..
Lying is something Limbaugh is good at, but it does not mean what he says or claims is the truth.
If this crisis is artificial, then why Republican Bush and the US Congress of both parties agreed to pay over a trillion dollars to stop the meltdown of mega banks and corporate market values at Wall Street.?
Obama needs all the right tools and the right brains to get us out of this economic mess we are in now,and let’s pray he succeeds.
The is a real economic problem we are in now and not a political one as Rush Limbaugh suggests.

Lush Dirtbaugh is fighting to keep the Fairness Doctrine from returning. His broadcast (to a small audience –look at the People Meter numbers) is primarily over the public airwaves. The Fairness Doctrine can only apply to the publically licensed frequencies.

He will be forced to balanced his show over “our airwaves” or be forced to cable TV where his career will drop dead on arrival.

  25. tarazan says:

Rush is really naive to think that Obama won simply because the economic situation only.
One can list over ten important reasons why Obama won the race.
One of those reasons is his opponent Senator McCain and running mate Sarah Palin were not strong enough to win the presidency.
People also were tired of 8 years of Bush’s Republican administration. The polls reflected that, and the loss of so many Senate and Congress seats indicates that there is more than just the economy that caused Republicans to lose. Economy was a factor…but not the only factor.

  26. tokin librul says:

Rush is really naive to think that Obama won simply because the economic situation only.

    Sher ya can.

  28. dixie blood says:

    tarazan,

Don’t forget the Iraq war which was the major issue until the economy tanked.

Did the Democrats start the illegal was in Iraq to gain power in 2008?

    Lush Dirtbaugh would say, “YES!”

  29. dixie blood says:

Sorry “illegal was in” should be “illegal war in”

  30. ICEMAN says:

Rush getting little to close to the truth. Better hurry up and get that fairness doctrine passed!! This is a laughable thought. As if the democrats had enough cooperation inside there own party to pull of something like that. Giving way way too much credit to this lovable and caring party.

  31. mausium says:

Nice to see that Limbaugh is just another “911 truther”.

  32. wiley says:

Somehow I doubt that Rush Limbaugh actually believes what he says. He has a formula to get the wing-nuts frothing. He has his own little universe where nothing he says seems as insane as it is to an audience who has been listening to him for a long time. He’s a cult leader. It pays well. He probably has about as much regard for his audience as he has for the truth.

  33. 49erDem says:

Nobody is going to institute a new “fairness doctrine,” but there will probably some new ownership rules and a re-regulation of how many media outlets a given corporation can control in a given area.

I would also like to see a return of true public tv and radio as opposed to this corporate-sponsored stuff we have now. The reason public radio and television has gone downhill is that it’s not publically financed anymore.

  34. 49erDem says:

I don’t know if he believes what he says, but he’s already admitted to “carrying water” for republicans.

  35. mausium says:

Why do I loathe him so much more than Coulter (but just as much as Beck)? I don’t get it, they’re both impossibly smug. I guess Coulter does her schtick with enough of a wink and a nod that I can see without a doubt that this is a well-paying gimmick for her, nothing more.

  36. nycbassist says:

He is so correct!!! All of those high ranking democratic CEO’s on Wall Street conspired with all of those homeowners who are such rabid liberals that they were willing to be thrown out of their homes to start the beginning of the crash. Then of course we liberals were all too happy to lose our jobs. I mean, it IS for a good cause, right? To get Obama elected, right? And of course, most of us demanded nothing BUT V8 Turbo powered, 4 wheel drive SUV’s to drive our kids to hockey in. And you know, the Detroit CEO’s of GM, and Ford did whatever they could to change our minds, and make smaller, more fuel efficient cars, but us liberals just wouldn’t listen. I know a lot of people were thinking way back when, before the shit hit the fan, that people like economists like Paul Krugman, were WARNING us about what was going to happen. But only Rush is smart enough to figure out, those weren’t warnings.. they were instructions… so that we could lose our homes, we could lose our jobs, we could plunge another dagger in the heart of organized labor, we could face the worst economic times this country has seen in over 100 years, and.. get Obama elected. Well done, folks. Now let’s go out drinking.. because we must .. umm.. celebrate.

  37. Winski says:

The Dems are benefiting because Chimpy and his band of crooks (including Limpbog) looked the other way !! And now for some of the FACTS…(I know they’re hard for the NeoNuts to fathom but they do exist…

David Kurtz has an interesting post over at TPM regarding Darrell Dochow, the west region director of Office of Thrift Supervision who has been removed for having approved a backdated capital infusion of $18 million into IndyMac by its holding company to stave off a downgrade in the rating assigned to the bank. LEADING TO IT’S COLLAPSE!

  38. Edgar Ant says:

This makes sense IF the message is coming from someone who places partisan identity to primarily an American identity. Where Limbaugh’s partisan rants fall short are in the details, the basic facts themselves simply don’t stand up to reason.

There is no need for progressives, or indeed Americans, to descend to their name calling level of discourse. IF nothing else, it is simply counterproductive.

  39. JYD says:

Desperation is showing…maybe just maybe the voters were ready for a big change a different direction. They wanted a president who cares about the working class and not a one agenda president who is a war-monger. Without 9/11 Bush would have nothing to speak of.

I don’t have an economics degree from Harvard but I saw this disaster coming a mile away…

If Limbaugh and O’Reilley are saying something then it must be hyperbole. Why are people still listening to these morons!?!!?

  40. Hawkeye says:

Limbaugh is within range of doing shows on UFO’s. Let them wallow where they belong…on the political fringe.

Iceman, third person plural possessive is “their” not “there”.

  42. Keith says:

Rush, I forgot, how did you spin the Dems winning the 2006 election by about 12%? Was that also what Schumer did in the summer of 2008? You know Dubya’s disapproval rating has been about 73% for a long, long time. About 85% of Americans have thought this country is on the wrong course for a long, long time.

The people can tell their wages and benefits have gone nowhere or down for about eight years now. They know a good job is very hard to find. They have heard about our deficit doubling in the last eight years. Many remember that Dubya inherited surpluses from Clinton. Two-thirds of Americans wanted out of Iraq two years ago, not maybe 2011.

  43. ElBruce says:

Onoes, Rush is on to us!

Yep, after centuries of trying to “bring down the man,” we finally figured out their Achilles’ heel – black folks filling out loan applications. So we mobilized all the minorities in America to take out mortgages at the same time and – BOOM! Massive Wall Street collapse! Ha ha, take that, Whitey!

Also, Democratic Congressmen causing runs on banks because everybody knows how much people listen to them.

Also, journalists creating a huge financial meltdown by reporting that there was a huge financial meltdown. Little known fact: they can cause earthquakes that way too.

Who knew it would be so easy to bring down the ruling class?

  44. Keith says:

EEEEWWWWWW!!! ICEMAN links to a picture of Obama shaking hands with Blagojevich! Well, that’s certainly an open and shut case of guilt if ever ICEMAN thought of one!

  45. Jackie says:

You must excuse Rush he’s been using some of the drugs Levi’s Mother’s been selling in Alaska. Drugs fry your brain and Rush’s brain have been fried so much there’s nothing left. He has to say something stupid for the salary he’s getting. By the way Beck might be traveling to Alaska for his cheap drugs too.

  46. cathymoo3 says:

So Hurricane Katrina was an act of the Democrats too?

  50. spense says:

It’s interesting that GOP hero George W Bush is presiding over the process Limbaugh abhors: the nationalization of banks and the auto industry. The reason he is doing so, is because HE HAS TO. He doesn’t want the economy to Hooverize into Great Depression II. Unlike most GOPers these days (and Limbaugh at all times), Bush still has actual responsibilities (to quote Sarah Palin).
Limbaugh makes a living off of irresponsible carping. Only people who have never been in power, and never expect to be in power, can get away with it. If the GOP ever wants actual power again, they better not follow Limbaugh. Dead end.

  51. kiabell04 says:

Wow, it must be tiring to be Rush, Hannity, Beck and O’Reilly. It’s easy being stupid, paranoid and afraid of your own shadow. These guys are world class idiots, whom I think are going to really make it hard to protect Obama from their crazy listeners.

  52. wizard2000 says:

“CAP’s Tim Westrich has more on how the “root cause of the financial mess is the hands-off approach towards mortgage and finance markets by the Bush administration, and its lack of action when a disaster was imminent.” (HT: TP reader DK)”

And when the Bush administration had a hands-on approach, it took state and local governments all the way to the Supreme Court to block state and local governments from applying Consumer Protection laws to aid homeowners and try to hold accountable corrupt predatory mortgage lenders.

This is a recurring, corrupt, criminal Republican pattern over the past eight years.

Republican/Bush administration hands-off approach, letting their corrupt, criminal, crony pals get away with whatever scheme, plan or con-game, while adopting a hands-on approach only to block attempts by anyone to hold conservatives crooks accountable.

Geez, what were these Republicans thinking…that America is a Banana Republic run by a bunch of Banana Republicans, with a Chimp-In-Chief and banana eaters like Rush Limbaugh providing propaganda cover?

They have no intrest in solving problems, frightening people and assigning blame; that’s how you win elections.

Seems every time a Bush hits town there’s another banking scandal and Iraq war. Remember the Savings and Loan scandal? How many more Bush’s can this country take? There’s BIGHEAD Jeb who rigged the election and convicted felon Neil who robbed the Savings and Loans left.

Oh, that’s right, Obama learned that trick from Clinton when he stole the election from the first Bush.

Hey Rush, I just got a script of Oxy, interested?

  67. celestial9513 says:

Maybe they didn’t have Obama specifically in mind all the time , however this current situation was TOTALLY orchestrated by those in government for a huge power grab!!!
Example : Why are nearly ALL the major corp. in our country only 1 or 2 months away from bankruptcy? ANSWER: Our tax structure , which has been set up for some time now , such that it penalizes companies for saving anything , or putting it away for a rainy day . Therefore a slow stretch hits & they all go under. In order to avoid paying huge tax penalties they must get RID of ALL profits . This encourages outrageous salaries for those at the top. It’s USE it or LOSE it.
Example 2: The government forced the banks to take bad loans . To lend money to those who they KNEW would not be able to re-pay , under the guise of getting more minorities into houses. While I COMPLETELY agree that more citizens in homes is GOOD for society , this was NOT the way to go about that goal. The outcome was predictable & HERE we are.
But , they knew what they were doing. Now , those who created this artificial catastrophe , are coming out claiming they will save us. Of course “EXTREME measures” may be necessary to accomplish this. A few more freedoms may need to be relinquished , more control given to the government over EVERYTHING …. Now they’ll be in the business of producing cars. ( And if the government makes cars anything like they do anything else , I’M NOT GETTING IN ONE!!! Pay attention , don’t be a sheep. They meant to do it.

  68. rcanaga says:

I kind of always thunk that but having Rush and his Republic party say it out loud, well now it be true, even my wife, cousin Betty, says so.

  69. jbuck says:

With Limbaugh, you have to read between the lines. Disregard the ridiculous, but look at the source. It is a fact that the media has collectively hammered Americans with a sense that somehow, recessions are foreign to a free market system and therefore MUST be somebody’s fault – ie; President Bush or Republican leadership. Living and working in Europe, I get a better perspective – you want to see REAL problems come over here and see how the Socialists are fairing! Stop whining and lets all work for RESPONSIBLE and TRANSPARENT leadership which has been sadly lacking the past 16 years!

  70. voterrightsexpansionman says:

Think seperation of business and state. Anyone can get into business, no one can occupy governmen seats to better self or business. Maybe the economy would be fine if new talent were allowed to rise in the ranks by removing barriers and restrictions from business. The economy on the short haul is a result of trade agreements, and on the long haul a result of the 16t amendment income tax. Attack the problem at the source and it goes away.

Oh Rush! Really, the answer to 99% of our problems in this country is to nationalize everything, and get rid of these right wing waco’s like YOU. What has the free enterprise system gotten us? Financial Chaos, that’s what! What has home ownership gotten us? Eviction, that’s what. Rant on Rush. I think we see what people will do without the guiding hand of a benevolent govenment leading them every step of the way.

  75. CageyCretin says:

    celestial9513 Says:

Well if that is not the most idiotic business proposal I have heard in some time. Truly republican thinking. Let’s see if we have this right: taxes are the greatest evil (apart from terrorism) we have to face. Businessess who save money have to pay taxes on that saved money, but since taxes are completely evil businesses don’t want to pay them. So, instead of saving money to cover bad times, businesses spend every last dollar so they won’t have to pay taxes on that money if it were saved. Have I got it so far? And I am supposed to pity a business who, in order to not pay taxes, will spend every last dollar, and then when something bad happens has to go bankrupt? So I should pity their greedy and unsound business practices? Any business STUPID enough to operate this way DESERVES to fail. Only a true republican would think this was sound business practice. All in order to not pay taxes. In a time of exteneded war? Seems to me that that kind of activity is called something…. oh, yeah UNPATRIOTIC!!!!!!!! Talk about NOT supporting the troops!!!!

Example 2: The government forced the banks to take bad loans.

Really? FORCED them to accept those bad loans at ridiculous interest rates (assuring a nice profit margin on those that did pay)? Forced? I think the word you are looking for is ENABLED, through de-regulation and a lot of “looking the other way”.

The ONLY things that enabled the ENTIRE set of crisis’ we are experiencing right now — the only things enabling these failures – are the conservative ideologies which have all been proven as failed policies. They are ideas that look good on paper but have no positive application in the really real world (o.k.: your republican ideologies work great in your D&D game. This is real life). Individually each ideology is a failure: when multiple aspects conspire together (as we have seen after 8 years of republican rule, with the foundations set several years earlier with the Ragun administration) then we have the major meltdowns that affect the entire nation. And not one repug can stand up and admit it — not one. Every one of them has to whine that it is “the Democrat’s fault”. Not only irresponsibly childish and myopic, but also is a continuation of the “you’re with us or against us” theme (”us” being the republican party — which has no interest in America, only the party). Republicans: intentionally divisive, willfully ignorant, and demonstratably failed ideologies.

  76. CageyCretin says:

    voterrightsexpansionman Says:
Think seperation of business and state. Anyone can get into business, no one can occupy governmen seats to better self or business. Maybe the economy would be fine if new talent were allowed to rise in the ranks by removing barriers and restrictions from business.

WTF ARE YOU SMOKING, AND WHY DON’T YOU SHARE???!!???

    seperation of business and state“??!!???!!

Where in the name of Zeus’ balls did you get that notion? WTF does that even mean? What you seems to imply here. if I have this right, is that government should not have any control, regulation, or taxes on business (and in this system, are citizens taxed? Or is the freedom from taxes PURELY for the BENEFIT of business? Starting to sound fascist, trying to hide in in what appears to be anti-fascist language. Clever, but failed).

Facts are that de-regulation is completely harmful on all possible levels. There need to be STRICT regulations on businesses, and STRICLY enforced laws concerning them. They also need to pay their share of taxes. Businesses are NOT greater ‘citizens’ than people. A business is not a citizen at all, and the concept of corporate personhood (another repug load of crap) is 180 degrees opposite the concepts that this country was founded on: thus making it an anti-American and unpatriotic concept that the republicans managed to get inserted into the system, with the effects only of causing trouble and damage, and harming the regular people.

  77. pikaomega says:

    Ok, wait.

Schumer caused a run on IndyMac. In the course of that premeditated genius, the whole of the mortgage industry was shown to be smoke and mirrors.

Does anyone here speak Republican? Can you explain to me this leap in fallacious logic?

By this measure, I suppose that high crime rates are naturally the fault of law enforcement, with their insistence on apprehending murderers and rapists…or domestic help illegally procuring prescription meds for a certain bloated radio personality.

  78. realpatriot says:

This may have already been stated in the threads above, but all of the scum that leaks from the right machine can be stopped or have less of an impact on helping to dumb down America……
    The Fairness Doctrine…bring it back…now

  79. billybam says:

Hmmm. I have kind of the opposite take on this. By late September, its obvious that Obama will win. Even Saint Karl knows this. So what to do? There is already a looming financial crisis, everyone on the inside knows it. Democrats and Republicans alike have been raising the warning. Someone owns the credit default swap (CDS), so let’s accelerate the crisis and start calling them in. The banks are fearful, but the GOP gets them to go along. The CDS are starting to be called. Billions of them. Now the ‘crisis’ begins. Now the administration (led by former Goldman Sachs CEO, Paulson) paints a grim picture. “Give us $700B now, no strings attached, or face the next Great Depression.”
Frightened and trusting (a dangerous combination) Congressional Democrats (and some Republicans) hand the money over. This resistance by some Republicans gives the party and those individuals cover. Republicans will always play both sides unless they are in the majority ’steamroller’ mode. Anyway, Paulson gets to kill long time rival Lehman Brothers by withholding (and only from them mind you) any funds, while lavishing taxpayer dollars on all the others.
The GOP goals are accomplished. They have successfully, and with the consent of Congress, looted the Treasury. This not only puts money in friendly hands, by depleting the Treasury, they make it much more difficult to initiate any Progressive agenda (we don’t have the money) and make a particularly difficult first term for Obama (he didn’t keep his promises) which they will run hard on in 2012.

    Much more plausible conspiracy theory.

  80. Mark701 says:

We all know Limbaugh is a bloviating gas bag. He is still pissed that nobody listened to his great advice and elected Obama anyway. Rest assured that his twisted ideas will appeal to only the hard right wing nuts and not moderate Republicans. This will only fracture the party even more. Rock on Rush!

  81. MapleStreet says:

Hey guys, If Schumer caused the depression, wouldn’t that mean that it ISN’T Clinton’s fault ?

Rush has just removed one of his talking points.

  82. EugeneDebs says:

    celestial9513 Says:

You are brainwashed and regurgitating long ago debunked talking points that only morons take seriously. No the government NEVER made banks make bad loans. That is a lie. They made them stop redlining which is NOT making loans to blacks and other minorities who were just as qualified for loans as anyone else. The reason they made BAD loans is this country has always had socialism for the rich and risk is socialized. So they knew there was no downside to making bad loans. Keep letting the AM Hateradio do your thinking for you and you will NEVER make any sense.

  83. EugeneDebs says:

I think the Oxymoron has so little integrity that he would be a liberal if the left made him a better offer.

  84. wwew says:

i wish democrats were so powerful and competent that they could pull this off.

  85. ctman47 says:

Nah, actually what we did was to get Rush on the radio and
O’Really on TV knowing that would destroy conservatism.
    Worked didn’t it (:)

  86. labman57 says:

Limbaugh’s mouth is apparently conspiring against his butthole, as evidenced by all of the crap he spews from his oral orifice. The guy is little more than a bellicose, bombastic blowhard.

  87. oldhippie1955 says:

  89. ALEJCARO says:

If anyone, anyone at all, expected anything less than this crap from Limbaugh and O’Reilly, need to go back to Propaganda 101. Expect this type of bile for the next 4 years.

There will be worse to come from Limbaugh and O’Reilly.

  90. dbearton says:

Limbaugh is crazy! What’s new. Why is this guy not behind bars on drug charges?

  91. marlow says:

How stupid does this pig-F’er think we are? I wouldn’t swallow that tripe even if I WAS a pod-person. Pathetic.

  92. Hawaiian style says:

All these Right wing talkers have a similar priority list:

    1. Be noticed, quoted, visible, infamous. Its better to be liked, but if not its better to be hated than ignored.
    2. Stir the pot
    3. Create an Us and Them attitude
    4. Use the Them group to be the scapegoat.
    5. Make lots of money
    6. Tell expedient truth, i.e. some truth with some lies if needed.

Just listen if you must and say, “Yeh, what ever…”

  93. Mark701 says:

The nation saw the mess that Hurricane Katrina caused, and it saw the Bush administration’s “heckuva job” in addressing that mess. Does that mean that the Dems caused Hurricane Katrina?

Sanity benefited in November. The voting public had too many wake-up calls for them to ignore.

  95. gladimnotyou says:

Nice attempt at trying to make a sensible argument but all of you have FAILED. Now, go get a job. Obama is not going to pay your mortgage.

  96. Ronacrone says:

And all of this time I thought the Bushitters were tanking the ecoonomy purposely to dissuade the illegals from sneaking it. It worked pretty well–better than most of their schemes. Maybe some poor Americans will also emigrate to Mexico for jobs. That would help clear the country of riffraff. But now I get it. Thanks Drugrush for setting me straight!

  97. binski62 says:

Go Limbaugh!!! B.O. will make soooo many mistakes..unfortunately for our country.

  98. binski62 says:

And to all those blaming our fine President for the Katrina mess..good luck!!! The administration called upon all people in Louisiana to get out of there..they called for a manditory evacuation..their words were not headed. Funny how you all can watch the news as it happens and then TWIST it when there is video and audio of it..you people are awesome.

  99. Hoodathunk says:

wow, and since all those people didn’t want to leave everything they had, considering most would have had to walk, it was ok to so totally screw up dealing with the aftermath?

And I suppose you have never viewed the video and audio of responses to previous hurricanes.

  100. DraculasMommy says:

Notice how the central argument of Mr. Westrich and most of the poster-s here on this board do not include a refutation of Limbaugh’s thesis, that of the nationalization of the mortage and automobile industries. The prospect of this should frighten everyone very very very much.

The government does not know how to build cars. Therefore they should not be in the business of regulating how they are made. The government does not know how to make them, market them, or sell them and, if nationalization is attempted, it will fail miserably.

The government does not know thing number one about how to make a mortgage loan (for evidence, look at the sink-hole called Social Security, which has been run by both Dems and Repubs since its inception).

  101. SharksBreath says:

This is for all of you die hard democrats out there. Remember this quote – and you will – by the time Obama leaves office it will have significance. Nikita Khruschev, 1959. For those of you who do not know who this is, he was the Soviet Leader. Here is his quote “We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communisim.” Those of you who are in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s that think freedom is a given, well you better think again. Limbaugh is right on the money. He realizes that what is at stack here is our Capitalistic freedom. While you may not like those corporations, they are the ones paying your mortgages your car payment and money for your childrens education. The govenment should not have anything to do with our corporations in this country and lowering taxes on them should be a given. We should not be working for the government, the government should be working for us. That is called a free society. Get some books on Hitler and read what he has to say. Then go back and listen to some of Obama’s messages when he was on the stump. It is a very similar message. Lord help us all if you driven democrats do not wake up out there.

  105. jlmealer says:

The Democrats did… Regulating banks and forcing bad loans on people without jobs IS starting and procurring the problems… McCain called them on it years ago!
And I really don’t care for Limbaugh due to his attacks on McCain in the beginning of the campaign.

  106. stoneofrefuge says:

Well, Obviously Democrats won the white house since last time since the transfer of power to bush in 2000. I hated it when he took office and staged the war on terror. Muslims must get into their own interior religious affairs and root out the extremists. The same goes for catlick and pootestants, I mean they need to get a life. That is whats wrong in the world, to much wealth and power. If all poor people can get together, lets get the Land of the Free back. Lets bring all companies that offshored our good paying jobs overseas back in the U.S. soil. We need them to pay their fair share of taxes. Rush Limbaugh, I bet he has sneezed and farted at the same time. when he prolly smelt defeat of republicans in the office. they will be remembered as people who brought USA down. Lets get the elected officials out of office who are republicans and put in Independents. We need to get alot of Independents in office to show the dems and reps how to run a country. We need to change the laws in our constitution and repeal alot of acts that were pushed by Bush. we need to have the pardons overturned so we the american people can try the criminals. Most of all lets root out all poisons in our food chain so we as american people can live longer. Lets repeal the laws helping the banks. Lets make the rich banks pay back the bail out. lets make the people who tapped into the bail out pay back since they have tax havens. People, lets rally and get the Independents into office. I have said enough. God Bless America. Amen

  107. SowellFood says:

Think Progress. If some of the comments above mark progress, I guess the word has been redefined. While reading many of the comments above I have come to believe that progress now means childishly misspelling the names of people and world religions.

Name calling is not new, not progressive. Resisting the urge to call someone a name, now that is progressive. Engaging in a conversation and backing your opinions with platitudes, not progressive. Opinions based on facts, regardless of political bias, would still be progress.

I return to these types of forums looking for inspiration and original thought. There are a few gems here and there, but for the most part, I am disappointed. As a nation we seem to have lost the ability to think critically and objectively.

The buzzword of the day is “Change.” That doesn’t mean that only half of the nation must change, or that only certain races must change. It means everyone. The First Amendment protects your freedom of speech. Do what you can to protect the sanctity of the First Amendment and think…before you speak.

Lets just come to facts the only reason Obama won for president is not for his policy because half of the people that voted for him didnt even know what his policy was! They voted for Obama because of RACE! This whole presidental thing is over RACE! so I dont see how ppl are saying it has nothing to do with his race because it is right there in your face!

  111. sparty66 says:

    What a baboon!
    Conspiracy theory in 20/20 hindsight?

The dems create the crash to get the whitehouse….
He makes NO provision for McCain winning the election
    and inheriting the same crash?

This man is dangerous to our country and needs to be deported~

  114. GG1 says:

Of course limbaugh is peddling drivel but if gets any traction the [Obama-biased] media will have itself to blame. When the media takes such flagrant sides as the mainstream media has in his election, it opens the door for people like Limbaugh, Coulter, O’Reilly & company to spew nonsense. The mainstream media has sold its credibility. Now I laugh {& sometimes moan] when it comes to Limbaugh but I don’t trust the network media either. Very few news professionals have been writing the straight skinny instaed the lines between news & commentary has been blurred on all sides. Sad but true

Obama, Biden, Pelosi, the Senate’s pro temp, Hillary

it’s led by someone I depise. I WISH I’D BEEN WRONG
ABOUT BUSH. I will wish that till I die. Much as I

Don’t be stupid. Everything was created by the democrats. Bill Clinton created the ninja loans that created a bad banking system.
Now do I agree with every choice that Bush made, NO. But I am sorry, he was given a shitty hand of cards.
Obama is bad news. Rush is right about this being a conspiracy.
This recent healthcare, the first step towards universal health care, that is seen within the stimulus bill is a crock of shit. Not only does it make up a large portion of a bill that is supposed to help the economy, but it is an invasion of privacy.
Do people not understand that this will take away more jobs let alone create awful care for the American people.
Obama kept this from the public and tried to rush the bill to be passed without people finding this.
Obama and the Democrats are pulling a fast one on the American people. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO HELP THE ECONOMY? I think that they are trying to mold the country into what they want, not the people.
This was all planned when the large portion of money was moved out of the banking system in September.
It is sad that the goverment is so corrupt.
