this probably explains why Gore quietly dumped all his shares in those strip mining operations he was cashing in on. Personally, I dont think the arabs are paying Gore nearly enough to make sure we dont' drill for our own oil and have to keep buying theirs. After all, they know, we know, and Patriotic old Al knows the arabs need that oil money to push their oppressive fundamentalist religion on the rest of the world.

Gore's ad would have a lot more credibility if he didn't have a stake in the outcome. As it stands, if his agenda gets he will personally make billions in windfall profits from cap and trade. If he were really serious he would forego any and all money. He could cover admistration cost with the billions his family has made in the oil business.

VerbalKint Says:

I think it would be humorous to ask some of the right wing’s dumb Rush-bots and assorted lickspittles what they think the term “clean coal” really means,

If you want to argue with someone, (or stereotype an entire group of people) you will sound far less ignorant if you know what you are talking about. But then again, if you knew what you were talking about, you would write something useful instead of a 4 or 5 line smart-a** remark.

Many republicans and democrats support "clean coal". Even our "savior" Barack supports it. I, like most republicans and democrats I know, realize that "clean coal" is a lie. I would also like to point out that we knew it was a lie long before buddy Al spoon fed us the obvious information.

Dumb people on both sides also support wind power (which will never be cost effective even though the fed continues giving huge subsidies to the industry and will have to forever to keep the things operational... It amazes me that some people don't seem to understand that the money for these subsidies is being taken from all of our paychecks before we even get them...)

People on both sides also support solar power which is promising but not there yet. I work with several businesses that are developing more efficient solar cells and solar integration systems currently. The industry as a whole is making huge strides.

I see no argument here between liberals and conservatives in any of these areas, but you can make one up if you want...

Nuclear power, however, is (for the most part) being pushed for by conservatives, and being stalled by liberals... The current technology is safe, and it can be made even more safe. With the subsidies that are given to wind power and other crap, the next generation of nuclear plants could be made. The next generation will be able to use the radioactive waste from the current plants and will produce non-radioactive waste. It is also obviously a zero emission technology.

The great thing about subsidizing this technology is that once the technology is being used, it will be cheap enough to pay for itself (unlike wind power which is as much of a joke as "clean coal"). It will also help get rid of current radioactive waste.

I hope you all enjoy this. From what I have seen, it is one of a small minority of non-whiny posts on this entire site...

There is no such thing as "clean coal".
Coal is filthy and destructive when it's mined.
It's filthy and destructive when it's processed.
It's filthy and destructive when it's burned.
Anything you try to do to it to "clean it up", will only make it expensive. Coal is an ecological dead end.

“Coal isn’t dirty. We think it’s clean. Smells good, too.”

It smells like money. That's all they think about.

That's what the dumb-asses in a valley south of here say about their stinking paper mill -- while they drop like flies from respiratory illnesses.

ElBruce, I agree. If the coal industry actually can come up with the technology to utilize coal to produce energy with no pollution and without destroying the environment to mine the coal, I'd be on board. The rust belt could use the work, coal is in abundance here in the U.S. and doesn't produce radioactive waste that we can't seem to figure out how to safely store or dispose of.

But that's a whole lot of "ifs" and it pisses me off that they're touting "clean coal technology" when no such thing exists.

Hey, if they ever manage to make it clean, that'd be fine. Tell the coal industry, "Go ahead and actually research what you're talking about. Come back and talk to us when you have a working prototype and we'll see. Until then, you're out in the cold." Heck, I wouldn't even mind government partnering in that research. But it must be clear that no new coal plants will be authorized until and unless they actually make their fantasy a reality, rather than just try to convince the public that they already did.

As for "clean coal", I've never understood how that is a possibility.

Y'know, considering the Palmieri thing yesterday, I don't think I'll ever again take your word for it when you call something a "grassroots effort."

Now, I'm for exposing "clean coal" as the fraud that it is, and I think this is a good campaign for doing that; it's just you've reminded us all yesterday that things are probably more contrived from above than you want them to sound.

“Clean Coal” is the most ludicrous oxymoron in the language.

Ranking just above: Legal Brief
                     Amtrak Schedule
                     Justice Rhenquist

I think the "Reality" commercial with a guy pretending to give us a tour of a clean coal processing plant is clever.

While clean coal does not currently exist, I support efforts to research making it clean (which is what Obama seems to be promoting). Even failure may result in knowledge that can be used elsewhere. Serendipity has been one of the best components of science.
