Bush signs law protecting retirement savings for gay couples.

Yesterday, Bush signed into law the Worker, Retiree and Employer Recovery Act of 2008 (WRERA), requiring employers to allow employees to roll their retirement plans over to nonspouse partners. The Human Rights Campaign hailed the bill for allowing gay couples to share benefits:

PPA [Pension Protection Act of 2006] made it possible for employers to allow any nonspouse beneficiary of an employee’s retirement plan—including an employee’s same-sex partner—to roll inherited retirement benefits directly to an individual retirement account (IRA) and avoid immediate taxation. WRERA requires that all employers provide this rollover opportunity to nonspouse beneficiaries.

    Woah, Georgie is thinking!

The booze didn’t work last night and the druggs weren’t stronge enough. Bush saw dead people those he killed and he quickly tried to do something right. Since his brain is fried from druggs this is what he came up with.

After 8 years of abject stupidity this moron suddenly stumbled into ‘teh gay’ issue by supporting everyone who lives outside the bounds of holy matrimony.

Thank the FSM he is stupid.

There’s got to be a catch. We better examine this bill thoroughly. There must be a “if” “then” “but” clause somewhere in this bill.

Jackie – sounds like you were leading into the story “A Christmas Carol”.

I know this isn’t related, but I just looked at a story on Foxnews.com and read the comments, and oh my god they are dumb.

    The George W. Bush?

  11. Curlew says:

My guess is that nobody read the bill before they gave it to Chimpy so he could write his X on the legislation.

  12. SP Biloxi says:

My, my, my. Somehow the clown President found his brain in the closet. And why is Bush having a change of heart of protecting gay couples’ retirement savings now? Is it simply that he is trying to cling on to have a legacy that is simply on life support or is what Curlew said that nobody read the bill to Bush?

I’ve always been in favor of benefits for unmarried different-sex partners, too.

  16. KayInMaine says:

Maybe George was thinking “gay couples” meant “happy couples” and wasn’t even thinking it meant gay couples? Huh. Could be.

This is chimpy’s Christmas present to turd for all his hard work.

I still say this man should be convicted of War Crimes, Treason and Crimes Against Humanity along with Cheney,Rumsfeld,Rice, Powell,Hadley et al.

  19. jb says:

Double check the fine print. That worthless scumbag is up to something, no doubt. Maybe polishing the turd that will be his legacy.

  20. Game of Life says:

chimpy screws up everything he touches. I’m sure he made a mistake just like he did in this instance.

Not me. Straights can get married unlike gays who are either yo-yo to death or denied marriage.

I think Microsoft made this point.

If a man and a woman want to share benefits then get married.

FWIR, as a contractor, “domestic partners” can get benefits. I’m not sure how fulltime employees are treated, do you know something else?

  23. conniptionfit says:

Did anyone check the “signing statement”?

Can you please explain your question again? And “FWIR”????

Sharing unmarried partners benefits are one thing (medical, insurance etc.) Unmarried partners receiving their deceased partner’s retirement benefit is another. Don’t you agree?

I wonder if this applies to Soc Sec too?

  25. ElBruce says:

Meh, he’ll probably “revoke” it tomorrow.

  26. Anthony Look says:

Wow, I wonder if there’s a catch; something that eventually comes out that makes this all beneficial to interests other than the obviously intended for?
Contrast this act with Obama’s calculated insensitive selection of Rick Warren.

I had the same reaction everyone else had when I saw this headline!

  28. Chocolate Jesus says:

anyone know the vote total? was it veto proof?

  29. cdsister says:

Maybe he thought it said “deny rights” so he signed it, otherwise I think another shoe is going to drop. Something like…Why do you want to get married? You have all the rights to shared benefits as a married couple.

I agree its hard to believe Gump did anything right or decent

  31. BobSF_94117 says:

Uh… being “included” when a law says ANYBODY can inherit these funds is hardly something to jump up and down about.

This is just a case of the Human Rights Campaign either 1) poking the Bush administration in a PR piece or 2) trying to give us the impression that they have accomplished something here.

    Odd.
