ElBruce,

I did not get the youtube link from Newsbusters. I honestly don't read that site. If source actually matters, I got wind of the quote through the Neil Boortz website.

I love how y’all can use a word that was said casually in passing, take it out of context and pretend it was the substance of an argument. Then you try to use this to counter actual substantive arguments.
Be careful with that logic. Both sides play the same game, and I'll grant its an annoying and intentionally misleading one. I was being coy with the Obama link. I don't actually think he wants to rule, but since the idea was brought up in reference to the Republicans, I thought it would be a nice addition. I was going for a pot-kettle relationship.

Do you even know what Jarrett was trying to say there? No.
What the point of her answer was? No.

There are some Dems who are guilty of this as well (e.g. Blago), but not so systematically, as an organizing principle of the party. That would be your opinion. If you only follow the virtues of your own party (via liberal leaning websites), and the vices of the other (via the same), you are going to see more examples that reinforce your belief system.

Hell, that is one major reason I read sites like thinkprogress.org and the Huffington Post. I want to see what Republican Congressmen are doing that warrants catches attention, positive or negative.

The only reason Congress’ approval ratings are low is that there are still enough Republicans in it to prevent them from being particularly useful to the American public.

I would not worry about magical numbers of (scary Republican) senators or representatives and instead look towards (Democrat) party leadership. If you want to get a higher approval rating for the next Congress, please, for the love of all that is holy, find leadership that will be effective.

Regardless, El Bruce, thank you for the dialogue.

Niffy Says:

Looks like the Republicans and Obama have something else in common, then!

Enjoy.

Got that from NewsBusters, didn't ya? I love how y'all can use a word that was said casually in passing, take it out of context and pretend it was the substance of an argument. Then you try to use this to counter actual substantive arguments. No, take that back; I hate it. It's idiotic and intentionally misleading.

Do you even know what Jarrett was trying to say there? What the point of her answer was? No, you wingnuts just heard her say "rule" and ran around screaming like the pack of idiots that you are. It's like the Obama/Wurzelbacher video; Obama gave a long, substantive, and rather convincing explanation to a random voter question, but all you people did was keep listening to yadda-yadda until you heard the words "spread the wealth" and then ran around like you'd scored a victory. You probably don't even remember anything else he said.

Wayne A. Schneider hit the nail on the head: the actions of the Republican Party since... well since ever, indicate that they are solely interested in power solely for its own sake, rather than as a tool to help the people who elected them. There are some Dems who are guilty of this as well (e.g. Blago), but not so systematically, as an organizing principle of the party.

This is probably the reason why Dems are so often "pushovers" for Republican slash-and-burn tactics. Dems aren't willing to destroy the institutions they wish to lead in order to claw their way to the top. Republicans are only too happy to.

.

Niffy Says:

But hey, the President still has a higher approval rating than the Congress. That’s something!

The only reason Congress' approval ratings are low is that there are still enough Republicans in it to prevent them from being particularly useful to the American public. We will rectify this error in 2010.

And as per the blog post itself?

I'm genuinely concerned for the 13% that are satisfied with the country right now. Recession, job loss, poor international standing? Yeah, mark me down in the 'satisfied' column!

The economic statistics are telling. The low poll numbers there drag down peoples feelings about the political system in general, and the president in particular.

But hey, the President still has a higher approval rating than the Congress. That's something!

Yeah, I know — it’s that naive, unbridled faith that even trolls might show a shining burst of clarity once in awhile. I always hope, but I’m usually disappointed.

Where’s Keltoi? Even though we often disagree on points, at least he isn’t a mindless parrothead and his posts are usually worth reading. He’s proof that one can be conservative without being a troll.

RaptureReady Says:

The “no work” Democratic Congress is the blame for most of our transgressions/failures.

I know you hate it when we point out facts to you, RR, but it was the Republicans who worked only three days a week, and cried like babies when the Democrats said they would work five days a week in the 110th COngress.

Also, do you think the Congress should be run the way the Republicans did it? You do know that the Republicans cheated the American people every chance they could of having proper representation in Congress? When bills were sent to conference (to negotiate the final version of the bill), the Republicans often stripped out everything the Democrats managed to get in, even when it had overwhelming bi-partisan support.

Republicans do not want to govern, they want to rule. And you think it would be better this way? You're sick. You really are, dude.

Wow, Zoo — it’s a good thing evangelical pastors are 100% straight, all the time. That would be an embarrasing way to phrase things for Daryll otherwise.

He’s married, you know.

Daryll, I mean. He’s got a wife. So he’s definitely not gay. He’s no more gay than Larry Craig.

I would bet Daryll is "shaking off the devil" at this very moment.
