Bush: Rumsfeld did an ‘outstanding job.’

This morning, during his speech at the Armed Forces Farewell Ceremony, President Bush took a minute to single out Donald Rumsfeld, saying he did an “outstanding job” as Defense Secretary:

Mr. Vice President, I am proud to serve with you for eight years. The military has had no staunch a defender in my administration than Vice President Dick Cheney. I thank members of the cabinet, members of the administration, and former members of the cabinet, especially the former secretary of defense, who did an outstanding job, Secretary Don Rumsfeld.

Watch it:

Last month, Bush gave another shoutout to Rumsfeld, calling him an “enterprising leader.”

Sending troops to die and murder for your lies in a "staunch a defender"?

  3. Clumberfeet Says:

You did a heck of a job Rummy.

Bush: Rumsfeld did an ‘outstanding job.’»

    - - By Bush's parking-lot-puddle deep criteria.

  6. rastaman Says:

    OF COURSE HE DID!....

HERMANN GOERING DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB FOR HITLER TOO

  7. Zooey Says:

That must be why Bush fired him -- he was doing too good a job.

  8. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

"enterprising" = characterized by great imagination

Yeah, I guess it does take a great imagination to lie.

  9. Leftside Annie Says:

    Yeah, so did Hitler.

    Bloody delusional evil little cretin.

  10. Marie Says:

Outstanding? I guess that is one word that might describe that war criminal, Rumsfeld. Enterprising? Yeah, we could say that he thought up new ways to circumvent the law.

Staunch defender of the military? Cheney: the one who stovepiped the cherrypicked intel up the chain, the one who breathed down the necks of CIA investigators and reporters to get them to persuade the public that we were under nuclear threat, the guy who lied weekly on the Sunday news shows, the five-deferment guy who has no compunction about sending others' sons and daughters to fight and die in a war he knows to be unwarranted and illegal, while neglecting to provide them with proper equipment - THAT staunch defender?

They can compliment each other at their trials at the Hague.

  11. Fred Says:

Bush: Rumsfeld did an ‘outstanding job.

Zooey, you beat me to it.....I would add that that must be why bush fired him in disgrace.

  12. The Dogfather Says:

Yeah, Rummy was "enterprising," all right -- as in, the head of a criminal enterprise...

  13. shoeless Says:

I think Bush should give that speech to the mothers of those soldiers who were killed in Iraq because they and/or their Hummers didn't have armor.

  14. Buckie Boy Says:

Rummy ; Well, by golly, good gosh all mighty, that sure is a tart dill-pickle of a thank you.

Bush: Just remember to take the rap when we are on trial at the Hague, Rummy.

Rummy: My goodness gracious my King, of course I'll take the rap for your...er...my war crimes, it is the least I can do for my dear leader.

Bush: If you get into too much trouble just call my at my ranch in Paraguay, you got the number, right?

Rummy: Oh, gracious me, you haven't giving it to me yet.

Bush: I'll....er....Email it to you, yeah, that's it, E..Mail...

  15. Anonymouse Says:

It's been interesting, watching this administration prepare for retirement:

Mr. Bush is spreading complements (and apparently Medals of Freedom) like mulch, hoping they might prevent a dense undergrowth of truth telling, after the music stops.

Mr. Cheney is finally admitting to all manner of crimes (war, constitutional, et al), hoping that Democrats will push for a prosecution while Mr. Bush still has the power to pardon.

  16. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

Rummy's "outstanding" work is one of the unknown unknowns.

  17. Jackie Says:

Rummy might be close to spilling the secrets so Bush is buttering him up. Rummy has warrents in other countries for his arrest and more will come when Obama closes Gitmo. Thanks to Cheney's big mouth the World now knows the torture of ordered by Rummy and signed by Cheney. All these years the Media and the White House has said the US does not torture now Cheney admitted it live on TV. Memo's have been released of the order Rummy gave to our troops to torture prisoners and even sent a special team to train our troops. Many held in jail were innocent men/woman/children and all were tortured/raped/murdered. Bush will give Rummy anything to keep him from talking or telling of the crimes committed over the pass 8 years.

He could even have been called a "catastrophic success!"

  21. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

Bush said: The military has had no staunch a defender in my administration than Vice President Dick Cheney.

Can this guy ever say something grammatically correct?
Did he mean: The military has had no stauncher a defender in my administration than Vice President Dick Cheney. Or did he mean: The military has had no staunch a defender in my administration in Vice President Dick Cheney.

  24. Wayne Says:

I notice Bush still cannot make a complete coherent sentence in proper English. Once a language butcher, always a language butcher.

On second thought... once a butcher, always a butcher, since language is not the only thing he has killed with his incompetence.

  25. Zimzone Says:

The Bush Mutual Admiration Society is hard as work, telling us all why they should be considered heroes.

You're watching American history revisionism here, folks. Combine that with 'family values' & who knows how far they'll go.

Are any of you buying it? I didn't think so.

    War criminals cannot be trusted...

  26. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

It will be nice to have a President that I can actualy understand when he speaks. Sheesh.

Just another clear indication that Chimpy's IQ keeps going down daily...

  28. stewarjt Says:

Yeah, if FUBAR is redefined as outstanding.

  29. ElBruce Says:

Yeah, go ahead and try to drag him out from under the bus you threw him under...

Sometimes I think they just roll dice on every decision.

  30. LibertyLover Says:

If Bush and Cheney believe that they are staunch defenders of the military... then why did they not supply them with the proper body armor and why don't they care for veterans?

  33. JYD Says:

I take it they are part of the 20-something percent that still approve of the "job" that was done on the American people...Rummy, Dick and Condi...what a crew!!

Good Riddance...too bad they left so much damage behind.

  34. curious Says:

A compliment from Bush to Rumsfeld. The blind leading the blind. What history will say about these men will not be good. They have to say good things about one another. No one else will.

  35. MapleStreet Says:

    Rumsfeld did his job well.

Ergo, part of Rumsfeld's job description was to make mistakes and get our military killed.

Where else but the Bush WH ?

  36. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

I can only conclude from this that vocabulary was never Bush's strongest suit. He clearly does not understand the meanings of the words he uses.

  37. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

Republicans in Congress Less Popular Than Bush

    ROFL!!!! OOOOPSSSSSS

We've heard and seen many news reports about how unpopular Congress is with the American people. And it is at an all time low, but what most TV analysts are refusing to point out is that it's the Republicans in Congress that are dragging down the approval rating. As a new Gallop poll shows us--Republicans in Congress Less Popular Than Bush.

  38. dbearton Says:

Rumsfeld belongs in jail with the other war criminals, Bush and Cheney.

  39. sacopenapa Says:

I hope these WAR CRIMINALS face accountability one day soon. That is if Obama's administration is interested in restoring US's image abroad. As it is, USA/UK/Israel may have the bigger guns, but that all they have!

  40. sectionop92 Says:

Rummy the Dummy slept at the wheel on his bosses orders.

Hang'em all high, whether at Leavenworth or at The Hague!
