The Constitution had no meaning for him – just some dusty old document written 200 plus years ago. History – never bothered with it, I was too busy boozing, drugging and leading the cheerleading squad.

Good post. This may not answer your questions, but you might find it helpful in understanding why people vote Republican. Basically, the Republicans tap into people’s fears and use emotional campaign themes rather than reasoned ones. One of our flaws as humans is that when our emotions are tapped into, our resoning centers tend to shut down. Every two years (and rarely in between), Republicans fire up the voters by trying to make all kinds of claims about gay marriage (the vast majority of which are false) because they know that once people’s emotions have been tweaked, they won’t listen to reason. If you read the article, you’ll at least understand how we got where we are (in addition to the flagrant cheating by the Republicans.) I’m still working on figuring out how to win against this tactic.

I doubt it, since he sent them into a war based on lies. At some level, each one of them knows that the hell they’re being put through was for no good reason. That’s the worst betrayal any Commander-In-Chief can commit against his own troops.

But there aren’t any appropriately sampled polls to gauge that anyways. The Military Times polls are “rip off this card and send it back,” and most of their subscriptions go to officers and retired officers anyway. That’s about as useful as an Internet poll. Probably less.

It’s great that you report on various distortions of reality promoted by the right wing, but what would really help is if you could also provide links to the right places where we could lodge our complaints with the publications or news organizations that do this. Unless they start hearing from readers and viewers about what’s wrong with what they’re saying, they will continue to say it, and millions of Americans will continue to be kept in the dark.

Help us combat this spread of right-wing misinformation and revisionist history-writing. Please provide us links to all the places where Hewitt published this nonsense, so we can let them know what we think of them (and Hugh).

There are two ways in which ol’ Huge, as well as “Darth” Cheney, are correct in their assertions that History will be kind.

The first would be that the crises, chaos, catastrophes and clusterf ucks which are the inevitable legacy of the Buseviks for the next 20 years are so mind-bogglingly stupendous, and the tragedy ensuing is so stark and universal that future generations will look back on the Bush regime with real nostalgia: “Say what you will about Busheviks, it was better then…”

The second–which is not necessarily separable from the first–would be when the Bosses perpetuate the same Bushevik crap with the subsequent regimes they install (including the incipient Obama group), and recognize the Bushies as the authentic fonts of its dominance.

History rewards the victors with the prize of legitimacy.
