Lott celebrates his new ability to lobby his friends in the Senate.

In November 2007, when then-Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) announced his retirement from Congress, it was believed that Lott resigned at that time in order to “immunize” himself against a new lobbying law that requires Senators to wait two-years instead of one before lobbying Congress. At the time, Lott said the ban, which took effect in 2008, “didn’t have a big role” in his decision. But yesterday, after his one-year wait was over, he admitted “he had been counting the seconds” until he could lobby his friends in Congress:

“I’m free!” announced former Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi. “My year is up!”

Special interests politics are apparently still in favor with the former Republican leader, who said he had been counting the seconds — quite literally — until the expiration of a 12-month ban on lobbying that he faced throughout 2008 as a former senator.

It’s kinda like the guy showing up in a baby diaper and bonnet at the party when everyone else is dressed to the nines.

“What, this isn’t a costume party?”

I’d love to see Herr Lott lobbying Congress from the wheel-chair to which he was consigned after his knees and elbows were beaten to jelly by “unnamed thugs” with baseball bats…

So remember, Members of Congress, when this man comes to talk to you, he’s a proven liar.

Boy, those Republicans sure care about “Country First” alright.

What an Oxymoron slogan for them, “Country First” my a$s.

To them it is “Me First”, greed and corruption are what’s for breakfast.

    Rot in hell Lott.

I think they meant they’ll rape the country first… the world next.

There’s a big gaping hole in the Republican bribery complex that needs to be filled!

Has anyone told Mr. Lott that his party has no control these days? He’s celebrating like someone who was awarded stock options at last spring’s prices, and is now free to sell them.

Sorry, Trent, I doubt there are many special interests willing to pay you the big lobbying bucks.

    PEACE

  16. stateofthedivision says:

They’ll pay Lott-Breaux the big bucks. With trillions coming from the Federal tit, Trent and his Democratic buddy John will have beaucoup business. D.C. is dirtier than ever due to big money stakes.

  17. ElBruce says:

You think he’d be a total leper. You just know somebody’s going to be taking notes on who is or isn’t talking to Trent Lott…

In any case, I hope Lott cooks up a bunch more illegal deals to take R’s down in flames of scandal. I like to think of lobbyists as an evolutionary pressure on others, like leeches or tapeworms.

  18. MapleStreet says:

Dumb Question: Knowing Lott’s background, how many people would be willing to instantly assume that anyone seen with him how is engaging in corrupt activities ?

a picture of Lott at a restaurant with a Senator – should be an instant investigation.

A picture of Lott walking into the WH – grounds for investigation.

    etc.

    etc.

Same old Lott. I guess when he said counting the minutes, he forgot he said last year that lobbying had nothing to do with his decision.

Now he will do what all the lobbyists do. He will slither around the house and senate. He will salivate, hiss and roll out his forked tongue. And make money. He has a cash cow now. Lobbying.

  23. shoeless says:

“I’m free!” announced former Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi.

Free? I doubt that. I’m sure the former Senator will cost a Lott.

  24. sirbobo43 says:

I’m from Mississippi and I know that Lott is a power-hungry southern (elitist) that is just “in it” to make sure he and his fellow cretins are kept rich and fat. Our govenor, Republican, Haley Barbour(past big tobacco lobbiest) is of the same ilk. He told reporters one time that he wouldn’t speak to anyone making under $80,000.00 per year. In Mississippi, that leaves just about all of us out. However, the rednecks in Mississippi, ardant George Bush fans, elected both of these guys into office. I am embarrassed by the people of my state being so ignorant and easily deluded.

  25. stateofthedivision says:

The porn industry is looking for lobbyists to garner some bailout money. Trent might be enough of a whore to represent porn.

  26. LiberalVoter says:

Ah, poor Lott. Give him a break (NOT). He lost his house in Katrina and Bush promised to have a lemonade on Lott’s new porch, two kicks in the ass at once. How did that lawsuit about fraud work out on that? Shouldn’t this clown be in jail?

  27. ElBruce says:

    LiberalVoter Says:

I’m sure he will be pretty quickly. Hopefully he takes a lot of R’s down with him. He never was smart enough to avoid dealing dirty.

  28. dbearton says:

This RepubliCon, who sold out America, belongs in jail for complicity with the Criminals Bush and Cheney.

  29. sectionop92 says:

How long until Lott and Blago are bunkmates? They could have great conversations about politics, college football and conspiracies taken against each of their egos.

Then again, I’d feel sorry for the warden.

  30. A Patriot Acting says:

Foghorn Leghorn is the Grandpappy of obstructionism and senatorial divisiveness. If I were a Senator and was approached by this used car salesman I would take every gift, every penny that came my way from him. Then I would vote against his interests (not just on principle, I’m sure any corp. that needs Trent to represent them are on the wrong side of the issue anyway). Afterwards, when Trent stops by to ask what happened and that he thought we had a deal I would gleefully tell him to go Cheney himself raw!
