Can people stop conflating Judaism with Israel? They are two entirely different things. By example, the Christian Right tends to be anti-Semitic yet they are strong supporters of Israel. Jews in the US are not monolithic. I am generally a strong supporter of Israel, not because I am Jewish but because the state stands for ideas that I support including democracy. BTW, Israel also provides legal rights to gays in an area of the world where being gay can cause one to be executed. Israel is much closer to sanctioning gay marriage than the US.

Fatah used to say something similar and traded that in for negotiations. The Palestinians are under no illusion they can defeat Israel but the only card they HAVE is recognition of Israel. Peace CAN be had if the Isrealis cough up the Occupied Arab territories but if warmongers like YOU have your way Isreal will never have peace. The whole attempt to frame the debate so Israel is blameless and the Palestinians are evil and anything outside that parameter is unacceptable is frankly trite and useless. We also need to change our attitude with regard to talking to Cuba. Surely if we can negotiate with China, we should at least give Cuba a try. What can it hurt? Right now we have no foreign policy. WE have wars. And what is war in the case of Bush. Failed foreign policy. War is not foreign policy, when it is the first and not last option.

What’s especially telling, in these kinds of thread, is the fact that no one, not one single post, suggests that Hamas should fire more rockets or that guilty parties who commit violence should not be punished.
