Lesbian couple invited on Obama’s inaugural whistle stop tour.

The Washington Blade reports that “lesbian couple Lisa Hazirjian and her partner Michelle have been invited to join” President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden on their Whistle Stop train ride to the nation’s capital leading up to the inauguration. “Hazirjian, who is from Ohio, serves as an at-large board member of Equality Ohio, as a member of the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats and as a volunteer for Cleveland Families Count, an organization formed to defend the new domestic partner registry in the city.” Obama, who is supportive of civil unions, has said he is “not in favor of gay marriage.”

Update Gregg Weaver -- Joe Biden’s Amtrak conductor -- and equal pay advocate Lilly Ledbetter will also be on the train ride.

They can go on the whistle stop tour, but Obama and Biden will fight against their right to marry. Happy new year!

Golly, we get a token couple on the train and a marching band in the parade — that sure does make up for the Rick Warren insult!

I believe that Fireballs point is that homosexuals can not procreate. The suspected implication is that therefore, homosexuality is bad, m’kay?

This goes back to what I was saying in the Mississippi thread about conservative Christianity having been taken over by a max-population baby-making millenial cult. All that matters to them is making more babies. Everything they “believe” in is whatever makes more babies. Human rights, civil rights, science, biology, equality under the law, and education must always be manipulated to whatever produces more babies.

    Thus,
    Abstinence “education”: yes
    Homosexuality: no
    Birth control: no
    Emergency contraception: no
    Abortion: no

    Result: babies, babies everywhere!

Not allowing beeps to marry is religious oppression. That said, I’m glad that Obama is spotlighting beeps and keeping the public discourse going on beep rights.

All the comments about how Obama picked Warren and disrepected the Gays now proves how little faith people have in the new President. I read comments were Gays wanted to almost remove Obama before he even took office because Warren was invited to say a prayer. Now if those same people had bothered to think and not just react they would know Obama know what discrimination is and how people feel. Remember those words ” I feel your pain”, well he has experienced that same pain gays are feeling now. Try listen to what Obama says about his life and then you’ll understand he knows and has felt the same pain. But like anything you have to reach out to every American if say you represent all American. People have been to use to the Bush/Cheney way of running the country for 8 years where if you speak up your jailed. Obama/Biden said change and that’s exactly what will happen and believe me alot of people aren’t happy. When JFK said all people were created equal all hell broke out as even the Christian Values Base didn’t like that at all.

I’m sure the radical left & Rachel Maddow will still skewer Obama. Unless the prez is a guerilla-style lefty in the mold of Bush, they’ll never be happy. The last thing our country needs is a tit-for-tat exchange of radical right administration in exchange for a radical left admin.

    S1 Says:

Hey, if you think you’re being tokenized, consider this – Rick Warren is solely there as a pure token. That’s so obvious and blatant that I’m surprised more evangelicals aren’t insulted by him being put up on the stage to shuck ‘n jive for the Democrats.

I quote the above as an example of how smart the Rick Warren invocation was. Two weeks ago, this mk3872 guy would have been in here screaming about how Obama’s going to start a revolution ending in tyranny by “the brothas” or whatnot. Today, he’s willing to give Obama a try. It’s cynical, but it’s working. Blatant stunts like the Rick Warren invocation are peeling off the Obama opposition from the right wing, because blatant stunts is what works on them.

  22. Spooning_leads24kin says:

Fist the gays get mad for Obama selecting Warren, and NOW they are supposed to jump with glee because he is appeasing them by inviting a lesbian couple? Gimmee a break!! Maybe he should have invited two gay guys, then it would rightly be called a “whistle Stop Tour”!! Gods plan was pretty simple, kinda like nuts and bolts.

  24. cwarddc says:

Will they get to shake Rick “Fat Bastard” Warren’s hand? I’m sure Obama did this because of all the emails he received from the LGBT community telling him to stuff his donation requests. We’ll probably get a shout-out in his inaugural address, too. Fool me once …… well, I’ll never get fooled again.

  25. fletc3her says:

Actually, Jackie, Obama picking Warren proves that he does not understand the modern civil rights battle. Just weeks after gays’ rights to MARRY was REMOVED by the State of California he picks one of the major spokespeople for that bigotry and has him give a prayer, a f-ing PRAYER, for the entire nation. Damn it. Barack Obama is just a god damn bigot like all the rest.

  26. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Spooning_leads24kin Says: …like nuts and bolts

    OK, you’re nuts, so bolt.

  27. fletc3her says:

I should add that he’s still head and shoulders about Bush who is both a bigot and grossly incompetent. Was it crazy to think we could get someone who was both competent and believed in civil rights in the white house? Yup.

    ____________

Obviously the plan was more complicated than that, since He chose to make one in ten people gay.

Or you can realize the truth – there is no planner. Evolution doesn’t work that way.

I remain cautiously optimistic. The problem with civil unions is that they lack “full faith and credit.” Repeal of DOMA might create equality for gays who married in Massachusetts and Connecticut – possibly, California.

At BEST, Obama’s support of the gay community has been tepid, even ambiguous. That is one of the reasons that I originally supported Senator Clinton.

Having written that, at least we will have a President who has said that he “fiercely” supports gay rights. That’s a first. Also, much to his credit, Obama is a true critical thinker. He may very well be working this out in his head and his position could evolve.

The first African-American President doesn’t “understand the modern civil rights battle?” Maybe the gay rights movement should take a page from his playbook instead of getting hung up on symbolism and purely oppositional tactics.

It’s only complicated to the dis-oriented and confused. It’s hard to get lost when keeping a straight path.

Then explain why genocide happens. If God’s plan is so simple, then people he got murdered must be those he wants dead. You should show some Christian humility and admit that you don’t understand the entirety of his plan. Maybe you’ve got some grasp of his plan for you, and that’s cool. But the rest of it (if you believe He has a plan) is entirely beyond human understanding, and that includes yours.

Ridicule is the only sane response to comments such as yours. And yeah, I’m usually pretty full of ridicule.

    I’m cautiously optimistic also.

But I do have a problem with him claiming to support gay rights while being “against gay marriage.” That’s just flat-out self-contradictory.

It might be possible to resolve the problem by converting all laws regarding “marriage” to civil unions though, and nothing he’s said closes the door on that. That would be the only approach that gives full equality (not “separate but equal”) while recognizing that a lot of people in America consider marriage to be a religious institution – by implementing full separation of church (”marriage”) and state (”civil unions”).

In fact, that’s the only approach that won’t cause long-term problems. Consider the fact that in order to determine who can perform marriages, states have to license reverends. License. Reverends. If anything ever was in abrogation of separation of church and state, it’s that. One might even get evangelicals on board by pointing out that many of the legally licensed reverends in nearly ever state are from the Church of Satan.
